Another obvious reason to buyout Monroe is to save money.

Just to be clear the rice steamer was offered for a TRADE. I never said anything about a buyout.

It will be an insult if Monroe goes back to the Bucks.

Okay, Bucks cannot sign Monroe. The Pelicans is a likely destination.

Man it’s shocking that a dude who, in limited minutes, puts up 10 and 7.5 and is a good soldier and there’s no trade market for him.

I was just happy to get rid of Bledsoe, but this trade looks even worse now.

How was there no trade interest in Monroe? NO is practically desperate for a big man with Cousins out for the rest of the year.

I think the big issue with Monroe is that he's got a $17 million expiring contract. So you need to get a large expiring deal back or take on future salary to move him.

Then we should have bought him out immediately, or negotiated money coming back from the Bucks. Terrible GMing.

Woj was on the early game talking about teams have become hesitant to give up assets especially 1st rounders unless trading for a star. We had to pay him anyway so seeing if there was a market didn't hurt anything

If Monroe had no trade value and he is heading to Boston, I can see it... Mcdonough perhaps doing his old team a favor. Maybe it can be returned down the road.

Plus the Suns should save money on the buyout.

There was a market, but the Suns didn't want to take back the salaries that would be necessary to even out the trade.

I have been trying to figure out deals on the trade machine for months, and there were very few that would make sense for the Suns.

I have too, but there were none, IMO, provided that the Suns were not willing to take back any long-term contracts.

I would’ve even taken 3 distant future 2nd round picks. And would e grumbled about that but nothing for a serviceable player? Don’t get it.
Exactly, get something for him. You just payed him to go away when he actually contributed when he played unlike Bender & Chriss. He saved PHX $8M I assume but does PHX need that money now during the season? I figured the cap space is more valuable at the end of the season when you can use it to actually sign someone.

You’re equating the savings on his buyout vs cap space. That’s not the issue. The Suns don’t want to pay an extra 8 million for a guy who is not going to be with the team after the summer. Simple as that. They are saving a ton of dead money either way.

Plus Len gets more burn the rest of the year and we start to see some minutes from Chriss and Bender at center. Also Sauce might come back soon, so he will need time.

They also clear out a roster spot so they can facilitate someone else’s trade. I would have loved to get something for Monroe, but I could not come up with an idea that did not add really bad contracts for a long time. There are lots of those in the league right now.

All excellent points. I get it. Still lessens the value of what we received for Bledsoe.
