That would provide reason for SVG abruptly quitting after just 1 season. He views the situation as irreparable and doesn't want to be blamed for Zion wanting out.

Unlike Carlisle, SVG was definitely fired and he confirmed it on twitter. It was reported a few months ago that it was likely to happen (Sam Amick) because the players and organization had issues with him.

Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz are hosting pre-draft workouts.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz are hosting group pre-draft workouts in Minneapolis July 8-11, sources tell ESPN. The goal is having 48 players participate over a four day period. The workouts will be open to all 30 teams.

I wish the Suns could get their hands on Tyler Herro.

I was pretty impressed with him late last season but he's been mostly below average other than that stretch. He'd probably be a slight upgrade over Moore though.

Herro would be a gigantic upgrade over Moore. I still think he has star potential and he could be a future combo guard for Phoenix. The sophomore slump doesn't worry me. He is only 21. If I were the Suns I'd do a lot to make it happen.

I agree he has quite a bit of up-side but it's a risk though. The stories/rumors out of Miami are that it wasn't a traditional sophomore slump. Supposedly the fame and glory went to his head AND he stopped working on his game. Maybe he can re-focus away from Miami but right now he doesn't seem like the kind of team first player that Monty wants to coach.

He's from Kentucky. Devin Booker can mentor him. :wink2:

Also I think Chris Paul would help.

This is the hard part. What could the Suns give up to get him and what would Miami want?

Would a draft day trade of Smith and the Suns number 1 do it?

I wouldn't give up on Smith just yet. And if I were going to trade him and the number 1 pick up it would only be for a 4 or 5. I have no idea if Miami would be interested in that trade but since they are rumored to be letting him go and he's in the final year of his contract, the price shouldn't be too high. Especially since they were so disappointed in him this season.

I don't know if Smith can be good or not based on what little I have seen but I know it takes something to get something. Less assets is always better.

I've never really been a believer in Smith but I've not become a disbeliever either. I have confidence in JJ's decision making so I'm in favor of either giving him a fair chance to shine or trading him for value similar to his draft spot. For now.

Maybe I missed it but I don't see much trade value to Jalen Smith at all. He was considered a reach and, unlike Cam, has done nothing to reverse that opinion. To me, he doesn't even look like a first rounder. He's getting paid top 10 lottery pick money. I don't see a team being all that enthused to acquire him.

We were just kicking around the idea of what would it take to trade for Tyler Herro. I asked if a draft day trade of Jalen Smith and the Suns number 1 would do it.

I think the Suns will give Smith a longer look next year. The one area they really need to focus on improving in the off-season is to get another one or two big bodies to take the heat off Ayton. If Smith shows any improvement in camp and the pre-season, that will go a long way towards solving that need.

As I recall Cam Johnson was considered even more of a reach than Jalen was. You're right though that he has shown us virtually nothing. But between the shortened preseason, an ankle injury and a Covid vacation - the deck was stacked against him. Unless the coaches have seen something about him that they don't like, I think you have to value him like the 10th pick until he proves otherwise.

The Suns really need for Smith to work out. They are not going to be drafting at 10 for awhile.

Other than the last regular season game against the Spurs he hasn't shown much. I was a fan of drafting him later than 10 in the 2020 draft so I'm not down on him. I'm wanting it to work unless the Suns can improve the team.
