Ainge has largely misplayed his hand over the last three years, given all the assets he had at one point. A case of outsmarting himself by trying to be too clever.

He got too greedy on trades, no one wanted to do business with him anymore.

Danny did an incredible job accumulating draft picks and had a decent amount of lottery luck but they've turned that treasure trove into far less than he should have. It's not all his fault though.

It's hard to blame him on the Irving fiasco and the fact that a couple of his first round picks lost value when Sacramento and Brooklyn both outperformed expectations. And then there's the year they actually did get lucky in the lottery but the draft class proved to be lackluster. I think it just goes to show that there's more than one way to build a great team but no matter what method you use, you have to get lucky.
And don’t forget, he’s the one who brought in Allen and kg for a championship. He had an impressive tenure. More shocked that Steven’s moving to front office and finding a new coach.

Yeah, he was heavily criticized for jettisoning Walker but that surprising move was a critical first step in building that championship team.

Tatum has been incredible, and Brown is not a slouch either.

They have a few other good young pieces too.

No, there is no need to blow it up, they just need to add a couple pieces.

BOOM.

I think everyone is on the table but Tatum

He also allowed 3 All-Stars to walk away, Kyrie, Horford, and Hayward. Rozier left also but was replaced with Kemba Walker, which was solid on paper but Kemba broke down physically right away.

Daniel Theis went to the Bulls in a trade by the Celtics but he is the type player that could help the Suns. He will be a free agent this summer.

Horford is toast. Philly dumped him after one year. Hayward is too injury prone.

The Hayward injury in game 1 of his Boston tenure really set them back.

That's one possibility but there is a different viewpoint. It's also been suggested that he had so many draft picks that every potential trade partner expected far more back than was reasonable. I'm not sure which story is true but I've heard both explanations many times.

Horford was overpaid by Philly and it was obvious Boston's system propped him up.

I agree.with Hayward. I think they should have dealt him at some point though. He had value and they never needed him after his injury because of Tatum and Brown's ascent. He was someone who was a Brad Stevens guy though so it probably would have created issues if he was dealt.

I’m shocked that after one middling season, with lots of injuries and no Briwn in the playoffs, Stevens loses his coaching job.

Did he lose it or get a promotion? Stevens channeled Cotton after being eliminated.

“we need better players”. Well, now it’s going to be his responsibility to get them. Boston is going to try to rebuild around Tatum.

James Jones is probably window shopping that roster as we speak.

And THAT is the problem with Embiid. Embiid's style of play is really hard on his body. He is big and heavy and he throws himself all over the place--often not under real control. Injuries are inevitable.

I thought Philly stood the best chance in the East to knock the Nets out but that isn't happening with a hobbled Embiid. The Nets have no answer for him, no one really does, but they also have a lot of good defenders to slow down the Nets big 3. The Nets would still be the favorites but if any team in the East could have taken them, it would have been a healthy Sixers squad.

Nets are a different team with Durant back in the lineup.

I agree. I'm not sure who can stop them. I don't see anyone in either conference at this point. I just liked how Philly matched up with them. Probably could have pushed them to 6 or 7 games.

Health and complacency are the Nets biggest obstacles going forward now. Philly might have been able to sit above complacency before Embiid's injury.

Coaches make more than GM’s but I think running the front office is a better job. I’m guessing Ainge was told to retire or he’s getting fired.

I think Millwaukee actually matches up best with them - but I don't expect them to beat them.
