Warriors paying to keep the team together
What's half-a-billion? Suns need a good owner with deep pockets.

That’s so excessive that it just makes the concept of parity a joke.275 million in just luxury tax

Andrew Wiggins of the Warriors gets a big paycheck as well, a 4 year/ $109 million extension.

The good part of this one is Wiggins actually took significantly less to stay with the Warriors. They are still way over the cap of course so they get penalized but it allows them to try and keep the roster together a year or two.
There's some rumor that Klay is going to retire after this year they've been very careful with him this offseason afraid to push him too hard and have another injury happen. He'll be 33 in Feb and there are quite a few insiders who apparently think he's considering retiring after this season.
The Warriors are an interesting "dilemma" for the NBA. They're way over the cap so huge luxtury tax penalty which people complain makes a sham of the cap. But 10 of the 14 players under contract were drafted and developed by the Warriors, which theoretically is what the NBA WANTS teams to do. The big issue is that they've drafted and developed well enough that they have a bunch of guys who earned big contracts.
Much of the league is pissed and thinks the NBA needs to stop teams like the Warriors from doing it. And some are saying just the opposite, luxury tax should be lower for players you drafted.
Yep. It's a soft cap that creates situations similar to Baseball where the teams who can afford the most get the most. Golden State could be perpetually stay over the luxury cap by a mile as long as they are winning and the owner is willing. To me, it should be an escalated luxury tax. So, that each year the cost of staying over escalates the tax each season. So, in essence you could do it but it's going to get exponentially be unviable for teams to say as far over as Golden state in perpetuity. It will still give teams a window that want to go for it.The Warriors are an interesting "dilemma" for the NBA.
