And if you're going to play a quarter, why isn't it the last aka Luka time?

I get the idea behind that but why play him if theyre down 25 or something? Even if they're up, continue what's worked. I think there's be greater chance of injury if you insert him late so he goes all out and tries to get them back in the game also.

I wonder if the league investigates if they didn't recently stir things up with their formal protest about the ending to the Warriors game where they lined up at the wrong end.
I think it's because it's kind of making a mockery of the play-in tournament. Putting it out there in advance that Luka would only play the first quarter of a game that had competition consequences probably irritated the league office quite a bit given that the play-in was intended to reduce tanking.

Docking the Mavs their first round pick entirely would be excessive and serve to punish the Knicks as well, since they should be getting the Mavs pick, and a fine would be meaningless to Cuban.

The most fitting punishment would be to remove the Mavs from the lotto selection and set their pick as the 14th by default, thereby giving it to the Knicks and setting a precedence that I am sure would scare a lot of teams out of repeating the behavior. Not sure if the NBA has the gonads or the creativity for such a punishment though.

Teams outside of contention tanking at the end of the year is the norm, they can give some semblance of a reason... like "we want to give the youth a look in real games", "we're scouting for the future"... ect ect.

A team tanking while they still have a very realistic chance at the playoffs going into the last few games... that is unheard of. Dallas was too lazy to even make up injuries for some of these guys... "rest"... rest?... rest?... you are one game out of the playoffs and you're "resting" guys... for what exactly? The off season?

That Dallas was playing the Bulls makes it all the more obvious. A team with the exact same record, as Dallas cannot move out of the 10th lotto slot and keep their pick.

I just wish I put more money on it.

I placed that wager when the bulls were down nine, I think they went down 12 seconds later and the odds went to +400.

I’ve got to remember this for next year, especially if the league doesn’t punish Dallas. Wait for a tanking team to take a lead and then hammer them to lose.

Personally I doubt it, but who knows. I think it's more about the Mavericks being open about their tanking.

Wow!

At this rate, Mugsy will have to make a comeback and play 82 games in 20 years.

EJ made a great point about why they started all the games at the same time today. So teams will not manipulate the system as much.

Lots of emotion flowing. Let there me no doubt the Wolves wanted to win. It proves costly, though.
