It's not a big narrative. It should be.
I think the sports community is just so jaded by years and years of PED scandals/rumors that we actually assume most of them are doping one way or another. Lebron and Oden for example both looked 40 years old in high school, it's easy to believe that's not natural.

These owners can’t help themselves. Brand new CBA designed to make deals like this for non-superstars very burdensome and they go and make Jaylen Brown the highest paid player in the league, giving him a contract that no opponent could have even sniffed.

I suspect Mat Ishbia will force salaries to a higher level which isn't a bad thing for the Suns.

Who isn't considering it? I've always assumed that James has been on PEDs since high school. The physical maturity of his body when he entered the league was unprecedented for someone of his (young) age.

He looked like every 5* defensive end coming out of high school so it wasn’t exactly unprecedented. His combo of skill and bb iq from an early age is what was unparalleled.

I'm not saying anything about any PED or testosterone - I'm just going to hope for the best, be respectful, and wait for the results

Nah. I am going to bag on him every chance I get, because I am a sports fan and proof is unnecessary for any narrative I want to believe.

I think it's over the top to toss around accusations about Lebron's kid since we really know nothing about his situation. But with the claim by the fighter that he was on the same drug regimen as Lebron plus the fact James looked middle aged and had a fully developed game as a teenager in addition to what he's been able to do so late in his career, speculation and suspicion seem warranted. Even though none of that is proof of wrongdoing on LBJ's part.

That's just not sports! People in general in all categories will be trashing other people now days. I think it's because we got used to posting anonymously online, and now our filter is broken in real life, too! :)

I think Austin Rivers speaks for a lot of players that have remained silent about the new CBA.

By Ira Winderman | [email protected] | South Florida Sun Sentinel

“This is why our CBA deal that we just signed and I don’t even want to get heavy into that,” Rivers said, “don’t even get me started on that deal that we’ve got going, because it’s top heavy. That’s why you’re seeing all these teams right now, where you either make $50 million of two. And it’s the most lopsided contract.

“I mean it’s a joke, bro. I can’t tell you how many mid-level guys are signing for vet minimum around the NBA. It’s laughable.”

Oden looked so old, he must have been doping on Milk of Magnesia.

He may have a point but he's also not the right guy to speak out on it. He gamed the system in the 2021 draft and told Detroit, amongst others, not to pick him as he had plans to sign as an undrafted free agent in LA. The Lakers are also one of those teams who have historically benefited from players signing for cheap because the LA market.

I think this is more how it should be though. Guys like Eric Gordon aren't selling tickets, drawing ratings, attracting sponsors or top tier players like Kevin Durant does. They're also not leading teams to the playoffs. They're complimentary players. Be upset the ownership didn't pay you but I think we'll see role players stay on teams longer going forward to establish bird rights and see larger pay days. Gone are the days of role players receiving star like contracts simply because it's a weak free agent crop.or teams with cap space want true difference makers rather than middling guys who do nothing more than maintain the status quo.

It really is crazy. The Jalen Brown contract is the latest example. The richest contract in the history of the league for a guy who is not even the best player on his own team. This should have had lower top-end deals and higher vet minimum scales, especially escalating for years in the league. Whoever negotiated this on the players union side should be fired.

Also, IIRC, Austin Rivers chose not to play for the Suns after being traded here.

I wouldn't be shocked if the new CBA agreement has to be renegotiated before the length of the deal, 7 years, is up.

IMO, it's not good for the players or owners.

They made it that was. So back in the day the role players pretty much controlled the union, now the stars do and they made it line up with their best interest. Chris Paul is a perfect example.

James was more developed than any HS player I've ever seen, including 5 star defensive ends.

Darnell Docket in high school. Top end high school football players are insane.

Yeah, one of my buddy’s cousins was a top DE ASU recruit a couple decades ago and he was a beast.

Doh, I thought it was Austin Reeves complaining, which is also why I mentioned the Lakers. Austin Rivers just sucks and isn't worth the vet.minimum.

However, I can't help but think he is speaking for numerous players now playing for near the minimum.

It's ironic Austin Rivers refused to play for certain teams as well.

Yep... probably PEDs too
Naw not all of them. We had a kid in my high school, 6’4 and built like a tank. Played center for our basketball team. Definitely not PEDs. You could see his transformation easily over four years. Nothing unnatural about it. But he was a man out there. There are occasional anomalies is nature.

With oden I think his aging was likely due to an undiagnosed condition that sometimes leads to giantism. Gheorgie muresan had it, look old, and no one would ever accuse that guy of PEDs.

With James we have people who have come out and said he does and his physical changes over the years looks like PEDs.

I have a friend who has been cycling testosterone and tren for a few years now and you can tell. Bone growth on the face.

I agree some people it's just genetics, but PEDs start in highschool for some people.

Well that’s ridiculous. He was star football player early in HS so you think he was juicing as early as 15-16 years old? He always has the size and frame to put on weight. It’s the natural progression of a generational athlete but you apparently don’t think those exist. Whether he did PED’s later in his career is another issue.

In one study I just came across by googling, more than half the respondents started using PED's before they were 16. Another article I came across at NIH said that 11% of teens (11% overall, not just athletes) in 2013 admitted taking human growth hormones, usually to gain an advantage in athletics or to improve appearance.
