JG has given some weak answers in regards to this offense lately.

I’m feeling pretty done with Petzing at this point. I get the impression he thinks he’s the smartest person in the room. He is playing lip service to people saying he needs to get MHJ involved more… hence the play to him in the first series then not going his way again for ages.
I will say it feels like Petzing probably leaned more to wanting Joe Alt.

I wonder if we take a WR with our other 1st round pick or wait till the 2nd round.

There wouldn't be nearly as much as drama here if Keon Coleman or Brian Thomas Jr (would have been a move up) had MHJ's #s.

As this points out Nabers has 7 drops to Marv's 4.

The problem is Marv's have been pretty ugly. It's not like he's dropping diving 50 yard bombs that are high difficulty. They have all hit him right in the hands and were easy catches.

I think we all agree that Petzing is a big part and of the problem.
Still, Harrison has had some bad drops which makes them seem worse.

Maybe, once Lincoln Riley gets fired at USC, he’ll follow the KK route and be an OC for the Cards.
Ryan Day was a much better OC than HC too. If he loses a couple more games this year, he’s gone. He’d be a good OC as well.

No one knows OSU football better than you do, so I treasure your feedback on this issue. I worked for an Akron, OH based company for 25 years, and all my Buckeye friends say to be patient with MHJ. He’ll be great soon enough.

He also isn’t making difficult/contested catches that we would like him to make with his frame even if they aren’t counted as “drops”.

Nabers had 3 drops. One less than MHJ on 19 more receptions. If there was ball-hits-you-in-hands-incompletion stat Marv would lead the league.

I'd imagine "drops" are somewhat subjective... but Harrison's have been blatantly obvious. Haven't seen enough of Nabers to judge, but the official NFL drop stat has Nabers with only 3 on 60 targets, vs. Harrison's 4 on 43... almost double the rate.

You don't need drop stats to know what your eyes can tell you, MHJ does not look good right now. He looks slow and not engaged most of the time and has balls hitting him in the hands that he can't catch. I think coaching and QB play is stunting his growth but stud alpha WR's will still do good even on bad teams. If you can get separation and catch balls in the NFL you will eat. As I have said before, even with the flashes he has shown he currently looks like the 3rd or 4th best WR from the draft.

exactly the one I think against buffalo that puts us in FG range or possibly a TD late in the half, that's not counted as a drop but it's a play you expect your #1 guy to make

What don’t you understand? Very straightforward observations.
Except they aren't. I have no idea how you come these conclusions. I have not seen anything to make me think he is intimidated. I have not seen anything to make me think he doesn't want to be playing football.

If you would have said he looks frustrated and wants to be more involved, I would have agreed.

This seems obvious but I think some of it is built in but Kyler isn't connecting on them. The other part is the Cardinals seem to try to chuck pass yards off of play-action which contributes to MHJs high aDOT.

Exactly!

I need zero stats about MHJ I have seen every play the dude has had.
-Body Catching
-Dropping passes that hit your hands
-Not knowing where to lineup
-Not reading the coverage (cutoff a route, go long, back shoulder throws)
-Half assing it on plays that don't go to him
-Half ass blocking

He is a rookie which means he can and probably will get better but man get your game right before asking for a ton of targets.
Does he not have to earn it?
