2021 - Prove It
Except it isn't crazy at all as he is the next great NFL QB.
Yeah but like all of his large family played at Carolina. Hard to pass up on family legacy.Crazy that Maye initially was committed to Alabama.
The funny part of that film is it was his first as a college starter. That is what impressed me the most from it. Dude was doing things Caleb still doesn't do in game 1.
He knew he wasnt good enough to beat out Bryce Young.Crazy that Maye initially was committed to Alabama.
Rattler lost that job more than anythingHe knew he wasnt good enough to beat out Bryce Young.
At least Mac Jones had 3 years in the system ahead of Bryce. Maye knew how big the hype was around Bryce.
Safer bet to just backup Howell for a year.
Meanwhile Caleb Williams ended up taking Rattler's job who was viewed a top 10 pick heading into his JR year.
You don't have to. Wait until the play Duke and Clemson early Nov. Duke because it may still be a ranked program and Clemson because of their roster talent.Sigh. I think UNC plays Virginia this week. I'll see if I can catch it on TV and make myself watch the kid for at least a quarter.
Agree... so many dudes get to the league and think "I made it" .... but getting drafted only means they are willing to give you a chance.I don't think it will be.
The tricky part is remembering what Herbert was in college vs what he has developed into in the NFL. The same concept is true for Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. Getting to the NFL is step 1. Step 2 is do you have the obsession to win at all costs? What are you willing to give up for that?
Will Maye be Herbert or Rivers or Roethlisberger? Who knows. Ben didn't put in a lot of work, but because he went to the Steelers and he was so physically gifted, he didn't have to. Will Maye go to a bad team, be really good, but still not win anything ala Herbert. Absolutely could happen.
The overall point with the Maye eval isn't that he is perfect. He makes mistakes weekly. It is that every game you see him having to play a NFL version of QB. Every week the pocket is muddy. Every week he gets hit. Every week he has to make small window throws. Every week he has to take what the defense gives him. Every week he has to slightly adjust his style of play. That is what being QB in the NFL is. That isn't the case with Caleb Williams or even Pennix for that matter.
He's a way better player than Young, but sure.He knew he wasnt good enough to beat out Bryce Young.

I think it's mental make up and the ability to make NFL throws.I’m done trying to project what QBs are going to be good.
Thought CJ Stroud would be terrible and he looks the best of the bunch.
Thought Haskins would be great and he’s running across highways getting hit by trucks.
There was a kid from Arkansas years ago that I thought would be great. Not Mallet, think Allen was his last name.
He’s played but been nothing.
Thought Rivers would be a bum.
It’s all about the situation you get drafted to.
FWIW, my favorite under the radar QB is Pratt from Tulane.
Bama's offensive talent (2022) wasnt much better than Maye's current offensive team. He's a way better player than Young, but sure.
I think Youngs top potential is smaller, generic Drew Brees. Or high end Chase Daniel. I never got the love for his game. It's easy for a good college QB to play really well with the talent he was surrounded with.

And tbh, while I was high on Jameson Williams, it seems more like Bryce Young made him the way his pro career is turning out.

Speed of processing info is key too.I think it's mental make up and the ability to make NFL throws.
This is Jared Goff slander. His arm is/was actually really good, it's just that he got super-gun-shy about putting the ball into tight windows.Speed of processing info is key too.
Ability to make throws, aka arm strength, is near the bottom of that list.
Haskins, Kyle Boller, and Jamarcus Russell could make any throw imaginable and had rocket arms.
Then you have guys like Purdy, Goff, and to a lesser extent, Pickett that are out there putting their teams in position to win.
Making the throw..... it's not just about arm strength.Speed of processing info is key too.

I am watching it to and God, what a boring game.If watching Ohio and Penn today keep an eye on Denzel Burke at CB. He's an Arizona/Saguaro kid and CB3/4 in this class. I think he will be a target for us.
For all the accolades that the PSU defense has gotten, you would have thought Diaz would have accounted for Harrison better. Instead Harrison ran all over the field and killed them with the crossing pattern over and over.Huge day for Marvin Harrison, Jr. against top ranked defense in country.
Similar thing in the OSU/PSU game. PSU had a 4th and one at midfield, PSU sends a player in motion and Allar (6'-5", 240 lbs. who can run) in shotgun and play goes to motion man who drops the pass.Watching Houston and Texas I kind of like Tune's replacement at QB, Donovan Smith? not a first rounder but 6'5" 240 good arm, can run. Seems like a guy you could get and develop if you don't take a QB high up in the draft.
Watching college I never cease to be amazed at 2 things, how bad the refs are, and how bad coaches can be. 3rd down Houston RB clearly gets the first down on forward progress, Texas pushes him back, refs spot the ball short so down 7 they have to go on 4th down. Terrible spot. Then with a 240 pound QB who can run, instead of just lining up and pushing him over the top they go shotgun, WR in motion and roll him right throwing to the motion man. Throw is offline incomplete they lose the game. Keep it simple coach.
