Exactly this. Even if MHJ is the elite player people are sure about, which I've argued is less sure than people think, the difference between MHJ and one of Nabers/Odunze/Coleman in practice will likely be negligible.

Someone used the AJ Green and Julio Jones draft comparison earlier. Julio was statistically better in total yards but AJ had more TDs. Julio had 18 yards per game more but Julio played his whole career with Matt Ryan. I think you can argue neither team chose wrong and if the draft flipped you may see the stats flipped.

For me the better value is in a trade down and Nabers plus draft capital (or a good vet player) than MHJ at #3.
While I agree with you that people are too certain MHJ is elite, I chuckle at your certainty that the difference between he and the other three being negligible. I’d actually argue the former is more likely than the latter given the volume of opinion of knowledgeable sportswriters and draft prognosticators opinions as elite compared to the relative small amount of articles we’ve seen posted here claiming those three are nipping at MHJ’s heels. In other words, the former is backed by prevalent nfl opinion, the latter is more just your opinion.

But Jefferson is a good example why you don't need to draft that high to get a great WR if you’ve got a top notch team of talent evaluators. 4 guys went before Jefferson.
I’ve caveated the above because as you’ve wrote it, it’s not an accurate statement.

Hypothetically.

We select a WR with the first pick and with the Texans pick we have our choice of...

Jared Verse
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Taliese Fuaga
Jer'Zhan Newton

Who are you taking and why?
I don't think Verse will be there but if he is I'm taking him. The Cardinals need another edge guy who can get to the QB and I think Verse will be that guy. I've watched a lot of FSU games and Verse is a constant disruptor and lives in the opponent's backfield.

It would probably take our second and one of our thirds to move up

Agreed. Assuming there isn't still a QB that some team is eyeing it wouldn't be too expensive to move up to the 7-11 range from say around #15.

The Jets don't have a 2nd or a 5th this year so they might be willing to move for that from #7 overall.

The Titan's don't have a third and might be willing to move from #9 back to #15 for an extra 3rd and 4th

The Chargers who are currently at #10 will have an new coach and GM. They might be looking for more picks to build the team in their image. Maybe an extra 3rd and a late round pick would get them to move back 5 spots.

The Saints don't have a 3rd or 4th so a third might be enough to move up 3 spots to #12 overall.

So if the Cardinals want to move up from the Titans pick I think there will be plenty of avenues that won't break the bank.

Man unless they throw the some ridiculous offer at us I’d rather pass. Jets with Rodgers, chargers with a decent coach/gm, saints in a hella weak sauce division could all easily be playoff teams next year. They have the rosters for it.

Titans will always be trash to be fair.

If we can get our guy there’s no reason to move. Take him and let’s start to focus on the Texan’s pick.
We are desperate for a true #1 receiver. This offense as it stands is easy to defend.

I want MHJ too. Sadly, I have no faith in who will be throwing him the ball.

Ive been trying to watch tape on some of the guys we could target in rounds 2-3 and even a little later. Im no scout, but certain guys pass the eye test more than others.

3 guys that have stood out to me are:

Jared Verse- Guy has a really good motor, shows both strength and speed, and looks like hes gonna be a legit pro pass rusher. IMO I prefer him over Turner or Latu...so Im not sure he will be there for our 2nd pick in the first round...but he would be a great pickup for our defense.

Trey Benson - This is the best RB in this class. I know we have other needs, but he looks like he could be a 3 down RB who really contributes. He has size and speed, and runs hard.

Moose Muhamed III- This is my 4th or 5th round sleeper WR in this very deep WR draft. He has great pedigree (dad played 11 seasons, Mushin Muhamed) He has GREAT hands, and is just a baller. IMO he is going to be a 10 year player in the NFL, and could be a great #2. I would take him in the 4th round, even if we draft MHJ at #3 overall, and he would give us another really solid player.

if he is, that means a variety of players that were potentials at that pick are gone

and I would think really hard about that one
If Pedzig would commit to designing his gameplan around 2 TE sets, I would be all for it. Imagine the play action game we could have with Kyler under center, an upgraded interior Oline, and McBride and Bowers as our TE's. We could be a top 10 rushing team, and be DEADLY with big plays since safetys would have to play in the box to try and cover McBride and Bowers.

Hell, in this draft WR is so deep we could get a guy in the 3rd or later to play outside with Wilson. Maybe former Sundevil and current FSU athletic freak Johnny Wilson?

If Wilson Is our wr2 at the start of the next season i would be extremely disappointed
I cant even Imagine a third rounder being wr1
