Let’s not become a prisoner of the moment.
Baynes is a career role player with a 5.5 ppg average. He’s done a great job holding down the fort in Ayton’s absence and has pretty much exceeded his own talent level in these past 6 games. Baynes didn’t reinvent himself at the age of 33. As much as I like Baynes, I wonder if/when a regression to the mean happens during this hot stretch.
What a downer! What Baynes now means to the team isn't the same
as when an over-the-hill Shaq was brought in for scoring magic.
Baynes is a role-playing big. He has been the difference.
To advocate regression is to overlook the importance of
his making the Center position a key to our success.
Something that has never been part of the Suns DNA.
I didn't expect him to extend his two 20-point games
in a row. We have guys who can score 20. Or 40.
Baynes is a role player in a power position that we
have desperately needed.
And, y'know who will appreciate it the most?
Ayton when he returns. The pressure won't
be all on him.
Baynes will continue to be very valuable to the Suns,
no matter what the box score shows.
His stats didn't make him, along with Booker, the
reason we beat the Sixers tonight.
Baynes' team leading +/- did. When he was on the
court, we excelled.
