I think Kolb's concussions are a HUGE deal inside the office. Kolbs last concussion he struggled a long time....and you can be the DR's said....this isn't good for long term.

Kolb is better IMO than Skelton -

Looks like they are willing to bet the farm on Manning....and I'm with em'. If we get Peyton...I'm gonna dance dance dance and drink till I pass out.
I would ABSOLUTELY bet the farm on Manning.

Dansby, Rollen Boldin pretty much got the same offer from the Cardinals but THEY choose to leave. DRC might be good but he is a nut job. DRC did not fit into the scheme Horton wanted to use. You can leed a hourse to water but getting it to drink is another thing.

That's a ringing commendation of the organization that all those players CHOSE to leave and their first round draft picks are lazy party boys or nut jobs.

But it doesn't have anything to do with my earlier post about guys that left not being worth the money but guys that are here of the same talent level are worth the money for no other reason than that they haven't left yet.

He said this morning on Mike and Mike that if Manning is released as expected, then the Cardinals will not pay Kolb and cut him. He feels that they will be a major player for Manning and even if not healthy at the start of Free Agency, they will still cut Kolb. He said worst case, they don't get Manning, then you go into the season with Skelton as your starting and that is not all that bad considering they way he played vs. the way Kolb played. I could see that playing out that way.

The podcast of that show.

...Kolb is who he is. He is not going to magically change into a competent, winning, healthy QB.
I'm with you maybe 40% of the way:

I agree that Kolb is what he is, but, in terms of what he could be, we really don't know. (He might not improve much, but maybe he will).

We know a little bit more about Skelton but are still pretty much in the speculation-zone figuring out how good he ultimately could be either.

And then there's Kolb's concussion - he could get over it, but sometimes these things can take as long as a year or two (sometimes never).

My point is that a lot of what the Card FO and coaching staff is doing involves considerable rolling of the dice, due diligence and playing the percentages. (And we're not even talking about Manning here/we're talking about the guys we've got).

No indictment of the Cardinals, though. A star QB could break an ankle stepping off a bus (or injure nerves in his neck). It's just part of the territory in the NFL and all any team can do is play the percentages and cover its risks.

Trying to scope out who, among Manning, Kolb or Skelton (or Bartell) will turn out to be best for us is an uncertain exercise & we probably won't have much of a clue until things start to sort out - maybe not until our 2nd or 3rd preseason game.

Alot of what I have read is Flynn signing with Miami rather than Manning. Of course that may change when Manning actually hits the open market, but I expect Flynn to be the Dolphins next QB. Rumors have him signing for about 60 mill. Does that sound like a good deal? I ask because some people bashed the Kolb deal and want to know if they are okay with paying Flynn 60 mill(if he gets that) for 1 great game on week 17 with absolutely zero pressure to perform on him.

a better deal than Kolb if you ask me as it will be plug and play. Flynn has been working for years in the offence Miami is installing.

every signing is a risk but he should be prepared immediatley and help with the learning curve for the O players and take leadership right away because of his knowledge.

Kolb set the benchmark, so that's why Flynn will get that money. Who knows if it is worth it. Until that week 17 game, he was known as a dink and dunk middling but safe QB.

As far as Kolb goes, the concern is the concussions, period. There is league-wide concern bordering on panic regarding susceptibility to concussions. Lions are considering replacing Jahvid Best for the same reason.

I agree with your points and every signing is a risk but to give a guy that much money when he's never been under fire seems "risky" to say the least. Plus, that Lions game was nothing more than a glorified exhibition game for GB, so, as impressive as he looked, I don't count that as being under fire and performing under pressure. But, if Miami thinks he's the guy, more power to them and I wouldn't bash the signing. I just think he has as many, or even more, question marks than Kolb did.

Not to worry Rugby. The same people who said the Cards were smart to let Antonio Smith go because the talent didn't equal the money and to let Leonard Davis go because the talent didn't equal the money and to let Karlos Dansby go because the talent didn't equal the money and to let Antrel Rolle go because the talent didn't equal the money and to let Anquan Boldin and DRC go because the attitude didn't work are the same people who are calling us out for saying it would be ok to let Kevin Kolb and Early Doucet go because the talent doesn't equal the money.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good job lol

Long story short, as is the Cardinals probably need to keep Kolb because that would provide them with at least two mediocre at QB. One gets hurt, the other can come in and provide the Cardinals with mediocre QB play. I'm not comfortable at all with heading into the season with Skelton and Bartels being the 1 and 2 options at QB.

If Manning comes available, the Arizona has to decide between Manning and Kolb as to which player is worth the health risk in relation to the money they would have to pay. Personally, I would think that it would be better to gamble on Manning over Kolb with Skelton being the option if Manning isn't healthy.

Wouldn't Miami be a better fit?

1) Playing in a conference that he's familiar with
2) Playing with a better offensive line
3) Playing with a better rushing attack
4) Playing with a Top 10 WR (Brandon Marshall)
5) Small media market

You can make the argument that the Cards have the better defense, but there's no question that the Fins would be better able to protect Manning from taking hits.

Go up aganst Tom Brady and Bill Belicheck twice a year with inferior team just to win division? Check.

No way he goes to the Dolphins. The Ross onwership is a disaster and I feel confident Peyton is too self aware to tie his boat there. If he goes to AFC East to battle Tom Brady, hes better off with that Jet team around him.

Miami will make a public play and then bow out early to do the smart thing and sign Matt Flynn. If they drag out lusting after Peyton with a guy like Flynn who may sign in say Seattle, they better get PM in that scenario or its Matt Moore time. Flynn makes the most sense.

I think the Wiz Relationship with Peyton is key. He feels comfortable with him and I dont see that same potential with brash Rex Ryan or rookie Joe Philbin. Maybe we bring in Christensen from IND to coach QBs?

Arizona maybe the leader int he club house in terms of fit. Now do we gamble and put up the money?
