With the unexpected retirement of John Carlson it would be nice to add a veteran TE. Gresham fits the mold perfectly for a Keim vet FA. He's coming off an injury and would benefit greatly from a "prove it" deal. He known as a good receiver, but is a VERY good blocker as well.

The oldest back on our roster is Ellington with 2 years NFL experience. While I fully expect Ellington and D.Johnson to get the bulk of the work, neither is teh bulldozer back that we need. A 5'9" 210lb S.Taylor isn't exactly a bulldozer either. S.Jackson would be an asset just simply as a vet in the RB corp and could be our bulldozer when needed.

Gresham isn't cooked. I'd take him but I think the Cards are sticking with what they have.

Jackson is done. I doubt he gets signed, if at all, until after week one.

Gresham had back surgery and I read he won't be ready until training camp time-- I think any team will want to see him move around on a filed before signing hem.

Tell that to the top rated Cardinals rush defense that he ran for 110 yards againstast season.

Btw - he would've been our leading rusher last year

He rushed for 3.7 yards a game last year...that's not good. Regardless of him having a good game against us.

Also helped he went against weak South defenses last year.
He's cooked. Has been for a while.

Jackson is undoubtably better than Taylor and would be a great RB to have. Unfortunately, backup RB's need to be able to do things on ST's. I don't see him doing that. The end.

Great-- if the Cards signed him, the only defense he ran well against wouldn't be on the schedule.

RBs have a limited shelf life. You draft them out of college, or UDFA.

I've already seen the Emmitt Smith and Edgerrin James signings. Never works out.

Gresham had back surgery in March. He had a herniated disc.

.
Gronk has had herniated disc surgery too. Gresham wouldn't come in and be asked to start but he'd be a nice platoon option and bench player.

Look at our TE's and try not gouge your eyes out. A project conversion from basketball, an oft-injured and very unproven Niklas, and Mr. Irrelevant. The Cards need help at that position.

Wouldn't mind seeing him signed. I'll be shocked if they do as I don't think they will.

If healthy, I would absolutely love him signing, because as you say. He isn't expected to start - just being a rotation guy.

I would also like Zach Miller

Jackson has had a great career, but I think he's done. He might, even now, be a better RB than Taylor, but Taylor is better in pass pro, and when it comes to playing ST there is NO comparison. Keep in mund, neither Jackson nor Taylor will be one of our top two RB's, so pass pro and special teams are a must.

That's certainly good enough to be a goal line back at least.

I'm more interested in seeing the team sign Gresham. There is no doubt the guy can catch the ball and has better than average speed for a TE. Not sure how much of a blocker he is as I think the Bengals used him more as a receiving TE than a blocker. He is one of those TEs that can actually stretch the field from the TE position so teams have to account for him. I would have no problem with SK bringing him in on a one year prove it contract.

I remember watching Hard Knocks and they had the one on one blocking drills and Gresham pancaked Geno Atkins.

Jermaine Gresham has been a career underachiver, and I'm saying this as someone who desperately wanted the Cards to draft him back in the day.

His last 3 years receiving DVOA:
2014: 44
2013: 49 (Worse than both John Carlson and Kyle Rudolph)
2012: 22

It's hard to say that Gresham has been a solid starting TE in the NFL for the last two years at least.

I like some things about Steven Jackson, but I don't know if it's worth it to him to come here on a minimum-salary contract. I wouldn't pay him more than that with maybe a $1M signing bonus.

Well that is interesting, his pure stat lines show numbers that are better than any of our tight ends in U of P era, which kind of surprised me. He is definitely an underachiever, but at the same time I think people expect a lot more out of TE's now with Gronk and Graham doing what they do. On the other hand, Palmer has played with him before, so that could be a plus. This is one of those scenarios where if Carson gives it the thumbs up, you do it, otherwise you spend the money elsewhere that makes larger than marginal improvements to the team. We just don't use the TE all that much anyways.

Years ago I met Mr. Jackson in Old Town. I asked him to come to the Cards then and I would still welcome him.

But look at the original post. Not a starter. Rotational. In that role I believe he would be awesome

Gresham's injury was worse than Gronk's. It's definitely career threatening. That said, I believe the Cards have interest if he can pass a physical. They'll likely delay until they see somethimng, but they can only wait so long.
