Why was that statement funny?..

I find it to be pretty believable.

I think he's basing it on the fact that it's not exactly world-class finishers he has to pass to, so it's debatable that he would be top 3 and maintain that throughout an entire season. Which is pretty true.

considering Marshall put up 12.3apg on 2.3 turnovers in his 3 starts and put up double digits assists in every game I dont think it is far fetched at all.

Vasquez was 3rd in assists this season at 9.0apg on 3.2 turnover so even if Marshall dropped those number by a full 3 assists he'd be top 3 in assists.

One either finds it laughable or doesn't, so there's no debating that. But it's based on a tiny sample of garbage time (since every minute of the Suns' last several games was garbage time). You might as well look at summer league stats. If you cherry-pick a player's best three-game run, everyone passes like Stockton or shoots like Bird or rebounds like Rodman.

Come on, a sample size of three games is way too small to project to a whole season. I do think Marshall is an excellent passer but if he starts putting up gaudy numbers on a regular basis teams will adjust - some will pressure him because they don't fear him driving and others will lay back because they don't fear his shooting

They should atleast give CJ McCollum a good look. If our scouts let someone great fall past us I'll be upset, or, just blame it on the Suns rotten luck as usual.

Well considering it was SL play that made me beleive that Lillard was going to be ROY before the season started. I still feel pretty confident in my initial statement about Marshall.

Man, I thought the same thing every year Bo Outlaw was dominating the summer league! For the life of me, I could never understand why he wasn't putting up HOF numbers during the regular season...

I will not doubt you are a good judge of talent but believing a player will be ROY was quite a reach. IMO, some luck was involved. Some players are never more than summer league stars.

However, I knew second round picks Ced Ceballos and Jeff Hornacek were quality NBA talent in training camp even before summer league. :D

When it came to Lillard it wasn't about the numbers he was posting, but just how he looked playing out there. He just seemed to be lightyears ahead of the competition.

With Marshall however we are only talking about assist numbers. No one is saying he would be a top 3 pg, but only that he could be top 3 in assists.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but Kendall Marshall was not among the 23 players who received votes for All-Rookie 1st and 2nd teams.

I guess they just said pass. :)

Based on the last season, suggesting that Marshall would be top 3 anything is just silly.
Right now, he is worth nothing. Keep him, play him, see if he can develop into something in the future, and trade him if he ever becomes anything more than a third-string PG.

Unless we draft another PG this year, if he ever becomes a decent backup PG why rush to trade him as we have need of him. Of course, if Diante Garrett beats him out then we have an abundance of PGs and could afford to trade one.

Get Diante out of here. Keep Marshall if we can't get anything for him. He's okay as the 2nd or 3rd option for yet another lotto bound season. At least we got something for Bassy (more lotto balls and a 2nd rounder).

Whats the rush? I like the way he attacks the hoop and his assist rate is the same as Marshalls - albeit in very short minutes. At his size I don't think he'd ever make a starter but if learns to shoot, he could be a useful bench player.

At his size? He's 6'4" which is above average height for a point guard.

Bennett, Porter or one the international players. I know I'm alone on Bennett but I'm just so unimpressed by most of the rest of this group that I'd rather take a gamble on the guy with the most up-side (IMO). And yes, I know about his injury. In fact, I like him as an option even more now as it explains his weak play from February on. Prior to that, the guy was pretty dominant.

Steve

I think he can but it's a shaky opinion. There are question marks about how his game will translate to the next level whether it's at the 3 or the 4. I think his best chance at stardom is at the 4 but he's going to have to learn to play through the contact. He's built to withstand the punishment but he tends to avoid it. But, when he was healthy, there was no more dominant player this past season.

Steve
So the Suns are going to draft a player with a top 5 pick at the position in which they already have Morris', Scola, Frye, Beasley?

I put Beasley and Marcus Morris in that because they both play better as PFs than SFs.

I'm fine with taking Bennett but only if we cut our PFs list from 5 to 1 or 2.

No kidding, what an embarrassment of riches! Our SF rotation is the envy of the entire league!

Schroeder will be a mid first round pick, possibly late lotto.

I'd love to draft him, he can be very good - better than Dragic. He is a bit like Conley.

I would consider trading Marshall for a pick in that 14-18 range if Schroeder was on the board, maybe target Utah.
What do you think of Kabongo?

Fancy name and his game looks similar to Schroeder's.

He played in only 11 games this past season due to a 23-game suspension for receiving airfare and personal training while lying about it to the program. He was still a five-star recruit out of high school due to his skills.

In the 11 games that Kabongo played in, he did quite well for the Longhorns. He averaged 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game during those final 11 games His best game was against the Oklahoma Sooners, as he scored 31 points while grabbing eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. He also shot 9-of-13 from the field in the overtime win.

What's your thoughts on Myck Kabongo? Good value pick with Miami's pick?

I looked at Diante's page and he is indeed listed as 6'4 190. I was only going by what he looked like to me. I'd just watched an old game where Dragic sat and Diante was subbing for Marshall - I thought he looked 2-3 inches shorter than Marshall and spindly legged. Great, at 6'4 I like him even more.

As far as assists go, if we can project Kendall to be top 3 based on three games, it's surely not a stretch to rate Diante as even better at dishing based on 150 minutes.
