You foul out at 6, he fouls less than 6 times per 36 so yes he could play 36 minutes.
Please tell me you are joking!

Come on, you're good with stats, think about it for a second. You cannot exceed 5 fouls and stay in the game, he averages 5.6, that means on average he would foul out more than half of his games were he to keep the same foul pace and play 36 minutes.
Are you freaking serious?
5.6 fouls per 36 minutes means that on average he does not have 6 fouls at 36 minutes.
Some game he will foul out before 36 minutes, some games he will foul out after 40 minutes.

Your conclusion is not representative. A player who gets no foul in his first game, then six in the next three (0+6+6+6 = 18 total fouls in 4 games) would have an average of 4.5 per game but foul out three out of every four games. Average is not an accurate factor in probabilities.
There are three measures to probabilities. Mean (which people call "average"), median and mode. Regarding median and mode, IIRC, one is the point that falls in the middle of total chances and the other is the number that occurs most often. In my example of 0-6-6-6, both the number in the middle and the one that occurs most often are 6, which could mean fouling out three out of every four games.
Another example, even worse, would be 5-6-5-6-5-6 fouls in six games, which would be less than the 5.6 average you cited. That means he'd foul out in of half of his games and be on the verge of fouling out in the rest. He literally hurts his team all six games.
The first example is like saying that a person with one foot in dry ice and the other in boiling water is, on average, pretty comfortable.
Briliant thread, so much comedy gold in this one.
Len has easily been the Suns 2nd best player this year.
Suns are 10-11 under Triano when Booker and Len are playing and Len is putting up 15/15/2/2 per36 with over 60%TS and a 19.7 PER at only 24 years old.

I think a lot of posters are coming to this point of view. Len has really come of age this season. Too bad he didn't show it last season so the Suns could have extended him.
The whole league rejected Len this last offseason. They get paid millions of dollars to evaluate talent and no one offered him a long term contract. Even now the suns don't have total faith in Len that's why they play Chandler up the wazoo.
I don't think the rest of the league will reject Len in the upcoming free agency.
The Suns have been rotating their centers. The Suns do seem to start Len over Chandler but perhaps this is because he has never lost the starting position. He has held this position since the beginning of the season. I like and respect Chandler but Len is the center I'd prefer to keep going forward if I had to make a choice.
Well he does seem the defacto choice now. Especially if our draft goes down the toilet. But do we want to be in a bidding war over Len? I'm afraid of buyers remorse with this dude.
his numbers are very good
14ppg 11.5rpg 2.5bpg per36 50% from the field. 3rd in Winshares on the team after Bledsoe and Chandler.
He is only 23. Letting him go would be beyond stupid. Alex Len should be a beast when he is 26.
Well I will concede many of you (JC & MS) were throwing around "big men take longer to develop". But not sure if that warranted giving long term contracts based on faith. Len should have showed his stuff last year... dopus.
Coaching is more important than most realize. Watson had Len shooting 15+ foot jumpers last season.
Triano has simplified things for Len and is asking him to do what he's comfortable with. Hell the entire offense is starting to look a lot better. Len in the right system should be a consistent double-double guy. We're starting to see it now and I hope he gets closer to 30mpg from here on out.
This. Exactly this. I recall the suns wanting Len to shoot jumpers. They wanted to make him a stretch 5 (and <shudder> a stretch 4). Man, put the kid in a position to succeed. Make it simple for him and then expand his skills and role. What Triano is doing is playing Len to his strengths, and SHOCKING I know, it’s working.Coaching is more important than most realize. I thought it was ridiculous that they didn't interview ANYONE else before bringing Watson back full time. (And I'll admit, I was a Watson guy. Thought his "method" of coaching could help the young guys. Boy was I wrong.) But the more I see Triano coach this team and slowly integrate his style, the more I want to see him back next year. They still need to at least interview others, but I would not be disappointed at all if it's Triano. And I'd like to see Nash back at some capacity since they are pretty close.
Question is, does Triano even want the job beyond this season?
It doesn't sound like he wants the job. From what I've heard, he loves developing guys but hates the things Head Coaches have to do- media appearances, interviews, and all the administrative stuff.
I am sure if the Suns really want him, they can throw enough money at him, get Booker to personally ask him, etc.
