All quiet on Washington front

The line in the release from an NFL spokesman was plain, sent out on May 30, 2014: “Daryl Washington of the Arizona Cardinals has been suspended without pay for at least one year for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.”

At least is a key phrase. We have passed the one-year mark. Many have asked me (many times) what the news is on Daryl Washington and where he stands. As of today, there is no news. He stands in the same place where he’s been since May 30 of last year. Suspended, awaiting reinstatement from the NFL. Mike Jurecki reported recently that Washington himself doesn’t know where his reinstatement is headed. (No one is saying if Washington officially applied for reinstatement, but it had been expected.) The Cardinals don’t have anything to say on the subject because, frankly, there is nothing to say until and if Washington is reinstated. Bruce Arians told azcentral.com the subject is “a waste of breath.”

i didnt know that smoking weed is such a crime for NFL
he was already banned for 1 year...i heard he took it seriously after the suspension, involved in social activities ,he didnt miss a test and he was clear during the year...
why?does he pay the fact he play for cardinals?

With Goodell and his lackeys, you never know what is going to happen. Low key is probably the best way to approach it. The less negative publicity in the press, the easier it is for Rodger to reinstate him.

Washington's suspension is at the 367-day mark. It's unclear if he's applied for reinstatement, but it's believed he has. FOX Sports Phoenix recently reported that Washington himself was unsure of his standing with the league. The consensus is that Washington will still be banned 2-6 more games as punishment for his substance abuse and domestic violence issues.*Jun 2 - 6:05 PM/QUOTE]

He has the assault charges also which will factor in.

I think this is what's holding it up. Also, it's only been a few days since the anniversary of his suspension, so I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

Two separate issues. The first is mandated under the CBA and the latter to be adjudicated by the Commish if and when a player is reinstated.

The team's website mentioned Washington.

"-- NO DARYL WASHINGTON AT THIS POINT IS A CURIOUS, CURIOUS THING: Frankly, I expected the suspended linebacker to be reinstated by the NFL by now, more than two weeks past his year anniversary. That he has not been would seem to be a major red flag. Did he not comply with what needed to be done? Did he not apply? These are understandable questions given the situation, even if they aren't being answered. Whatever the reason, it isn't a good sign in terms of Washington getting back on the field. The Cards, who can only wait to hear, went into the offseason saying they would operate assuming he wasn't going to be around, and to date, that looks like it was a prudent approach."

The silence is deafening.

Don't like hearing this. Makes it sound like DWash is not doing what he needs to be doing.

The fact he didn't learn a lesson the first TWO times he was caught makes me worry he still didn't. I hope that is not the case because he is a talent but the team sure can't count on him.

It's curious to me that Urban expected Washington to be reinstated at this point. Is he forgetting about the DV case that he has yet to be punished by the league for? Or did he expect no further punishment for that offense?

The DV punishment will be adjudicated after he's reinstated on the drug issue. If he failed the latter there's no reason to deal with the DV because he's out of the league.

Got it. So, technically, he would be reinstated before being suspended again.

I wonder if any of the players on the team stay in touch with him and know what the deal is?

Hopefully by August we hear something. Question, if he gets reinstated but suspended can he attend / participate in TC? He could use suspension time to shake off the year and a half of rust.

We would've heard something by now if there was a significant issue delaying his reinstatement. People found out that Justin Blackmon was still breaking rules while being suspended indefinitely.

My belief is that this thing is tied up in the NFL offices; and, even though it shouldn't, the NFL might be looking into the DV situation concurrently.

We should wait until information surfaces before jumping to conclusions.

Meh, I am taking the arians angle. I dont care until he is on the field, until then no reason to worry about it.
