...Still, some Cardinals fans clamor for Washington’s return. Or at least an update on his status. Via twitter and e-mail, it’s the question I’ve been asked most since the spring.
Nothing has changed, an NFL spokesman wrote in an e-mail this week. Washington remains suspended. Indefinitely.
No one from the NFL is commenting further. Washington has not replied to text messages. His agent has not replied to e-mails, and Cardinals employees come close to covering their ears and shouting whenever his name is mentioned.

In April, his agent said Washington would apply for reinstatement within a week or two. A later report pegged the application date as May 8, but no one has confirmed that Washington actually applied.
We’re left to fill the vacuum of information with our own deductions. It doesn’t take a huge leap in logic to come to the conclusion that Washington did not meet the criteria for reinstatement from the substance-abuse suspension.
(He still faces punishment for domestic violence under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.)
Players in stage three of the substance abuse program, like Washington, can be tested up to 10 times a month. And the league’s policy makes it clear that testing clean and following a treatment program is a big part of being reinstated...
