Alumni Update: Q&A with Offensive Lineman Luis Sharpe
What are you looking to become involved with these days?
I would like to work with pro athletes and do some work sharing my experience and my strength – maybe a conduit between management and players.
Are you still living here in Phoenix?
Yes, this is home.
What do you miss the most about not playing for the Cardinals?
I miss the fellowship the most, men in the locker room and the relationships and friendships and the camaraderie.
How do you think the game has changed since your playing days?
Players are bigger. There are a lot of off-field issues and a lot of controversy as to the best way to address those issues.
What are some of your fondest memories of being a Cardinal?
I’ll always be a Cardinal. About a year ago I told Mr. Bidwill about the jokes he told for 13 years that we always laughed about, and that I didn’t really think they were too funny. And you know what he told me? He told me yeah, and I paid you too much. So it was a little tit for tat. He got me and I got him. My fondest memory was the 49ers the year after they won the Super Bowl and we played them at Sun Devil Stadium and came back to beat them with a touchdown in the last seconds.
What advice would you give to these younger guys playing today?
Do not believe all the hype. Stay centered and focused on who they are outside of football – to be good family men and fathers and know this is going to last only but a season. It does not go on forever, no matter how they feel.
