I read it the same way Steve did. All vs most are distinctly different statements.

There was a reasonable level of expectation that its understood.

If I say the Godfather 2 was by far the best in the series, that doesn't imply the other 2 suck just because I didn't say "but they were good too".

Superbowl, sb MVP, 2 league MVPs, 3 of his 4 pro bowl nods.

Explain how 3 solid seasons here tops that.
Hahahaha . . . "Solid????" He took the Arizona friggin cardinals to the super bowl! Who cares that they went 9-7 that year. It was the historical sad sack cardinals that he TOOK TO THE SUPERBOWL! Did he do MORE in St. Louis? Yup. But "solid" in az? Cmon . . .

If Amare wanted a ine day contract and Suns said no, good lord I just continue to be let down by the org. But if he wanted to play and they said no and then he went and retired on a one day contract as a knick, they I say Amare, no ROH for you.

Just because AZ has a low bar doesn't mean the bar for 'solid' changes.

9-7 across alot of the league is just OK to solid.

Except he took that 9-7 team to the super bowl. Now that is an accomplishment, I don't care who you are.

No ring of honor because he signed a one day contract at the end of his career, not because he signed a 5 year contract five years ago?

You guys are pretty weird. He should deifinitely be in the ring of honor.

I would wait awhile but yeah, there's no chance it doesn't or shouldn't happen IMO.

Have the Suns EVER inducted a player who retired as a member of another team? There is ZERO chance that happens IMO. You can't do that. Maybe I just don't remember. Maybe it's been done?

I don't think it's an issue at all but then I don't really think much of this sign for a day and retire stuff. That's all pretty recent as far as the NBA goes, who knows how it will be viewed long term.

No, it would be more like if you said Godfather 2 had "All the best scenes", which obviously implies that the other films had no such scenes. You made an over declarative statement and rather than admit you over stated your point you chose to pop off.

Anyway, back on topic, does it really matter? Barkley played most of his career as a Sixer, he left Phoenix on really poor terms, eventually his number was retired and most fans associate him with the Suns. In 5 years Amare will likely be in the ring on honor and no one will really care or remember this silliness surrounding a 1 day contract.

I just wish they would have signed Amare to teach Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender defensive awareness and the fundamentals of rebounding. If the Phoenix Suns refused to sign Amare Stoudemire for this one day contracts so he could retire a Phoenix Sun I would say that seemed pretty petty. That doesn't seem to be the case. I have no problem with them deciding they didn't want/need him as some sort of mentor this year. He's not the guy I would choose mentoring Marquese Chriss.

I think it matters. He retired a Knick and a member of another team. Charles retired a Sun.

Barkley retired a Rocket. Nash retired a Laker, we put him in the ring the next year. If Amare was or was not going into the ring, I doubt this silly one day contract has any effect whatsoever.

Yep you're right I don't know why I was thinking Barkley retired a Sun. Nash did retire a Laker. So I guess on second thought it probably doesn't matter as much as I thought in regards to The Ring of Honor. Although I still think it's weird to have someone retire in someone else's uniform and end up in your ring of honor.

Plus it still doesn't take away how crappy it is if he wanted to retire a Sun and Sarver/Suns didn't reach out. That still isn't forgivable in my opinion.

I agree but that's a big "if". From what I've read I'm pretty sure Amare wanted to come to Phoenix because of our hole at the 4, not to retire. If he could handle the minutes he'd have far and away been our best power forward but once we signed Dudley, those minutes were already taken. I'm really surprised that Sarver didn't overrule and force us to bring him back. Personally I take that as a good sign. We need those minutes for Chriss and Bender even though it's going to cost us in the win column.

Amare wasnt looking for a one day contract from the Suns, he wanted to PLAY here, maybe even start.

That just would not have worked given where the Suns are in the rebuilding process. I think Sarver probably would have liked to have Amare back. He would have sold tickets. Instead, he listened to his Gm and took the patient path. I am good with this.

Did they clarify that? Because Amare just signed a one day contract with the Knicks. I think it's reasonable to assume he would have done the same with the Suns had the overture been made. Amare gave the impression he had been looking for a one day to retire. That's why I said I would like the Suns organization to comment. If they don't, it's pretty telling.

Amare said that he looked forward to signing with the Suns because they brought Dudley and Barbosa back. He wouldn't say this if he only cared about signing a 1 day contract because signing a 1 day contract doesn't mean he gets to play with Dudley and Barbosa. However signing for the whole season does.

I'm guessing that the fact that the Suns didn't want him for a full season pissed him off so he went to NY and even Phil Jackson wasn't stupid enough to let Amare play a full year so then Amare just signed the one day contract with NYK to stick it to the Suns for not giving him the opportunity to play another season in Phoenix.

Looks like he will be playing overseas for the basketball team that he owns in Israel.

I agree with this up to the part where you project Amare's attitude. I don't think "sticking it to the Suns" had anything to do with it. From everything I've heard and read, Stat has a good relationship with Sarver. And it's quite clear he wants to someday be in our ROH so my guess this was all about his legacy.

He clearly deserves franchise respect from us and he'll eventually get it, now he gets two franchises behind him in his quest for the Hall of Fame. As I've said several times, the one day contract is all about him wanting the brightest spotlight and it burns far brighter in New York than it does in Phoenix.
