Castro sounded like Tiny Tim in the beginning of that song. Kristy Lee Cook looked GREAT, and she even sounded good. She seems to have this Kelly Pickler thing going. Brooke and Archuleta were BORING. David Cook did suck and did know it. Johns was pitchy. Did not know the song by Fantasia, but Syesha seemed to nail it. Carly was forgettable, easily.

Agreed-Carly goes home.

To me, Syesha was flat the entire number. I thought it was pretty bad - and I knew that a glory note was coming the entire time, which seemed flat as well. When they do the recap at the end of the show, I always close my eyes and listen. I couldn't even tell who was singing! It was that bad for me. Was a pretty mediocre night all around, with David Cook, Carly, and Syesha being in the bottom. And Brooke and Castro right there with them. Not for sounding bad per se, but for being pretty bland.

The message on David Cooks hand was really cheesy to me. Not the message itself, just the pandering, IMO.

I actually liked Castro's song. Was that version recently featured in a movie? It sounded familiar...maybe 50 First Dates?

I'm not sure; I'm familiar with it because my folks went to Hawaii last year & bought the cd...the guy that sings it IS HUGE, but I think he's passed away now.

Good call, Pariah:

Wiki said:
In 2006, a version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", in an arrangement based on Iz', was performed by The Worthless Peons in "My Way Home", the 100th episode of Scrubs, over the closing montage. A recording of the same song by Iz was used in the closing scenes of the final episode of Life on Mars (TV Series). It is also a featured song in the movies Finding Forrester, Meet Joe Black and 50 First Dates. In 2002, the song was used to powerful effect in the closing scenes of Anthony Edwards' last appearance in E.R. as Dr. Mark Greene, in the episode 'On The Beach'. In 2008, American Idol contestant, Jason Castro performed Israel's arrangement of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on the ukulele.

Too much fluff with the show last night. If they wanted people to give more they should have shown more of the sad true life stories and stories of how money from last years show has helped.

I really disliked last nights show. Compared to last years charity show, this was a cheap knock off.

Was shocked to see Johns go. I liked his performance. Was shocked not to see Cook in the bottom 3.

Ah, well. This is why I watch at this point--it's where it really gets interesting.

David Cook's the only one I really care about. I'll stop watching if/when he leaves. The rest of them ... don't think I would ever buy any of their music or pay to watch them perform.

I thought Johns was as talented as anyone else on stage, but I could NOT stand his fast vibrato. It irritates me, like yodeling. Was happy to seem him go. So should his fans, because now he can go and make whatever music he wants to. Won't have to bend over to the Idol production machine.

Don't they end up indentured servants to AI for a couple of years if they make the final X or is that just the winner?

Who were the bottom three?

I'm surprised Johns went (apparently, from the post above), but not surprised he was in the bottom. There were far worse performers than Johns left.

The Top 10 does the American Idol summer tour. After that I think they just go and cut their own deals -- save for the top 2. Sometimes the Idol-related producers will seek out contestants just because they saw potential.

So the Idols are going to take on Mariah Carey tonight. Should be okay for most, but a potential trainwreck for all. May be worth watching.

Wow...how incredibly lame. All her music sounds the same.

I hope Cook does something cool.

This is sort of not fair. Carey has the A+ voice -- perfect pitch, operatic range, total control. No past Idol winners could pull off a Carey song. None of Carey's music is very interesting if sung by someone else.

Totally agree... This has all the making of a disastrous night...

David Cook probably just gave one of the top 2 or 3 best performances ever on American Idol. So original it was crazy.

That was a #1 hit right there.

Seriously....... No one is ANYWHERE NEAR him.

And what is the love for Archuleta. I am already tired of hearing his voice. It's like the same thing every week to a different tune.

Brooke, & Carly should be in the bottom 2.
