I missed the Cornell thing too I heard them say someone's version but I didn't hear them say Cornell. I was wondering if the judges knew he didn't do the arrangment out of thin air.

maybe he'll do Faith Limp Bizkit version later or Alien Ant Farm covering Michael Jackson. I do like that he picks the songs so well he's very good and as long as he's disclosing whose version it is not a problem they all do it.

I thougth ARchuleta was signing Gospel but he said it was some foreign guy. The part I didn't like was his response to the that's an odd choice he kept saying "he's such an amazing singer that's my favorite song." It was like saying no the song is really good you're just not smart enough to know. You have to realize the judges actually do know a fair bit about the industry, egos or not if they say it's an odd choice it's because it's an odd choice.

Is there a site that publishes approximate vote tallies week to week? I would
love to see how high Malubay ranks week to week I'm convinced she'll go a couple of more weeks just on the Filipino vote. She's good enough that she's not Sanjaya staying way past where he should have, but to not even be in the bottom 3 when she was sick and didn't do well tells you she's got a solid voting base.

Funny the first week I watched I thought way more talented this year, now I'm not sure anybody beyond Cook I'm not sure it's really unusually talented.

Just once I'd like to see someone say they picked a song because they KNEW they could nail it. Cook is doing that, not going for the sentimental, this song means the world to me, blah blah blah. The Billie Jean and Elenor Rigby choices were awesome. Archuleta could probably pull off a Don Henley tune. This week is Dolly Parton. She can coach the girls on boob jobs.

The kid needs to go directly to the Kenny Loggins songbook. All of those things can be worked out and modernized -- Loggins has done it to his own songs -- and Archuleta's voice has the exact same range and wispy quality.

Take the disco element out of This Is It, rearrange the chorus with some funkier bass and drums, add some lightly distorted guitar, the kid's going to be right back in the competition. Or go completely acoustic. That seems to work well for the other Mormon in this competition.

It's Dolly Parton week, which means they'll be singing Dolly Parton songs. It's not a bad week to miss the show, IMO. These poor kids will be asked to pick from hits like:

- Here You Come Again
- 9 to 5
- Islands in the Stream (difficult considering it's a duet)
- I Will Always Love You ($10 says Syesha does the Whitney cover version)
- After the Gold Rush (which is actually a nice arrangement with Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Rondstadt, but it is pretty static tune ... needs some serious punching up for this competition)
- Two Doors Down (this could actually be a funky R&B tune with some rearrangement)
- Better Get to Livin' (this would be the best choice I think)

Steel Balls Award to anyone who attempts Dolly's arrangement of Stairway to Heaven.

What about Jolene or Coat of Many Colors?

I had no idea that Parton had published almost 600 songs to date. That's a lot of crap to sort through. Song choice is critical this week. This genre will keep Kristi Lee around another week.

Well, she's just like any other diva. She's sang a lot of other people's songs. Her most memorable have typically been her own. She's also been covered a bit (i.e. Whitney Houston).

Today on the way in to work the radio station did a story that I immediately pegged as an April Fools Joke but they had people calling in nonstop to complain about it. They quoted American Idol as saying an employee of the firm who counts the voted had admitted to changing votes to prevent Sanjaya from staying on last year because the employee thought others were unfairly voting for him(vote for the worst). IN light of this they felt the only fair thing to do was to reinstate Sanjaya immediately, in THIS years show. Because they can't change the schedule they had to eliminate one more so since Syesha was in the bottom 2 last week, she's off the show and will be replaced by Sanjaya tonight.

You can't believe how irate people were calling in. Am I the only one that gets up on April 1st wondering how long it'll be before I hear an April Fools prank?

Oh man I can just imagine all of the ladies calling in outraged. Too Funny!

My wife would totally fall for this. She is oblivious to April 1st being Aprils fools day.

This week has to be the end of the road for Christie Lee Cook. She hasn't really shined much in the competition so far, and this week with Dolly Parton as the guest, this was really the week she needed to shine. Her performance wasn't bad, but I don't think it was good enough. I'm betting she goes home this week.

Johns was brilliant last night.

Syesha should've stayed with the 1st part of her song. When you get to the familiar manner in which it's sung it usually spells failure for the singer. You can't do Mariah, Whitney, or Celine and expect to get away with it.

Cook's performance was rocking. With his own arrangement I expected him to fall on his face. He proved me wrong for sure. And after last night he no longer seems like an a-hole.

I thought she was the worst of the bunch.

I kept expecting the song to change--to hit a point where it turned into a high-octane rock song. It didn't, so I thought it could have been better. But he certainly didn't do anything to hurt his standing on the show.

Little Davey Archuletta sounded good, but man, he needs to work on his stage presence. The whole right hand open and pleading with every damn song is bugging me. I think he's going to be a star someday, but I don't think he's ready yet. Something about him just bugs me and I can't really put my finger on it...I think it's just an immaturity in his performances (not in a "bad" sense, just that he's got to get comfortable in his own skin a little more, and that'll come with age).

David Cook rushed to hospital after last night's show

Heard this on the radio this morning. Apparently he was suffering from heart palpitations & his blood pressure was quite elevated, etc. It started before the show but he decided to wait until after it was over to go to the hospital:

Ramiele & Kristy are in Danger tonight. Bottom 3 should be those two with Jason Castro.

Kristy Lee Cook should be gone IMO.

Eek on Cook going to the ER.

I actually thought that was Kristy's best performance. She's safe this week. All the people who voted for her because of God Bless the USA are going to vote for her again, and she also has the Vote for the Worst crowd behind her.

Bottom three will be Castro, Ramiele and Kristy, and a shocker with Kristy being safe.

Oh, and Pariah Johns was fantastic last night..outstanding.

I thought Castro was pretty good last night. I agreed with Paula that he seemed much more relaxed than usual. I think he should stay.

Ramalee (sp?) should be gone, IMO. I think she's horrible.

Castro Sucks...

'Lil David is just too young, too raw, and not ready... though extremely talented...

Johns stole the show last night...

Cook was just ok...

Kristy is one-dimensional... She can sing Dolly-songs all night long ad knock them out of the park... But that's it...

Ramiele has a great voice, but zero star presence... She'll be gone soon...

Gotta say - I really like Brooke... She won't wow anyone, but I really like her presence and her voice... She reminds me a bit of Cheryl Crow...

I liked Castro and I though Ramielle was just about the best I've seen of her, the problem is I think she's just about the weakest left beyond Kristy who I agree only stayed last week by picking a patriotic song.

So we have the patriotic vote for her, the Filipino vote for Malubay, and we'll see if someone else goes or one of them?

I kind of think Malubay may go you can see her reactions to the judges comments that she's not particuarly confident she belongs much longer.

I think she's gone about as far as she deserves maybe one week too long already.

I didn't like Johns AT ALL. I've never seen him before...but damn. His was my least favorite. Sayesha (sp?) and Malubay were my other two least favorites, although I will say I think this is a very talented bunch--moreso than most years.

Everyone of the songs she has done is completely forgetable. She needs to go. She is out of her league now.

Michael Johns was one of my favorites initially but lately he hasn't sounded that great to me. The judges liked him last night but I wasn't that impressed either. He is my mom's favorite. Mainly because she named me Michael John. Go figure.

I expected Kristi to blow my socks off because this was the perfect genre for her. I didn't think her performace was that good last night.

Brooke has an amazing voice. She has that sort of Folk singer style in her. One of the best on the show. I think it will be between her and David Cook.

David Cook was rushed to the hospital after last night's performance. He had high-blood pressure. He was under great strain because his brother, who's fighting cancer, had a setback this week.
