Man, ALW is so weird...if you look up "uncomfortable in his own skin" he's the picture. I love him though...he's brilliant...his mind is great and his music is...damn near if not..legendary. I love the freaky deaky man.

Eliminations coming up!

Ok, loved Cook's response on why he didn't try to change ALW's arrangement. He said after asked about always doing new versions of songs and such that "alw is one of the most definable songwriters I've ever met heard of, known and and what could be more unpredictable than doing a song the way it was written."

davids are safe...little david may win, but he isn't close to the best. These are your top two, though.

ok, so seriously, Carly is better than Syesha and Castro...it was her tat arm, her yelly mcbelly and her tatted faced husband. That's it. Really. She's better than those two. And freaking Brooke!!

Jeez.

Leona Lewis is the bomb. Gorgeous. Can sing. That song just sticks with you too.

Brooke or Castro should've gone home last night. I'm glad Syesha has stayed, like David Cook, she is the only one that shown growth throughout the competition and we can say has definitely improved since the 1st show. Improved enough to win? No, but she is deserving of a long run.

I am a Phantom ***** as well. Seen it live 11 times in 3 different time zones.

Cook is on a totally different level. Period.

Archuleta is old already in my mind.

I've never seen Phantom. Just thought I'd throw that out there to make Donald :thud:

Could NOT believe Brooke & Castro were not in the bottom two. I thought Syesha did a fantastic job. She was hotter than hell. I felt so bad she was in the bottom 2. Carly? I was not surprised to see her there, because she's there every week. She doesn't have the fanbase. Did she deserve to be there? No, but we all should have seen it coming.

OK first I need to say Castro needs to go. I have had it with that non emotional kid. We have a kid on our Little League team that is the same way and it is so hard to coach!! Anyway he is just boring to watch.

I am so over David Archuletta. He is very talented but his voice really bugs me.

Oh man, Linda. You need to see this. On stage.

I've seen it so many times, and it was my first show to see in NY. Then I saw Chicago in my second Broadway experience.

Phantom is just...just...*kablewey*

Actually, while watching, I was thinking that I would like to see some of these...I've never seen any of them...I've never seen a musical...or a play...well, okay...I'm as un-cultured as they come. But I think it would be very cool.

Just have to convince dcr of that.

It was no surprise that Carly went home. I think Siman nailoed it when he said the votes were based more on popularity this week than raw talent. Despite her "looks", she is still more talented than dread head and Brooke.

Next week is Neil Diamond. I hope the contestants pick some songs that move, Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show is what I hope David Cook sings. Diamond has some very rockin' tunes. It's time to erase the boredom of the last 2 weeks and bring it up a notch. Syesha can have a broadway career if she chooses. She was HELLA HOT!

Neil Diamond night...2 songs a piece, Jason Castro & Brooke White need to go very soon.

Edit: Paula Abdul is either off her medication or over-medicated tonight. Without spoiling it for those of you that can't see it yet...watch the show and you'll understand.

The show is fixed/ scripted. The confusing trial format they used just confused Paula. She said the same comments about Castro's second song before and after the performance. The judges loved Archuletta who was terrible. I've always thought it was scripted and this may be the proof, finally. I bet Syesha goes home as is planned. Dial Idol has Syesha with the most votes. We'll see.

Yeah I don't know if it's scripted since it's before a live audience but it was REALLY weird what paula did?

First off she gets confused and says Castro sang 2 songs, then when informed he'd only sung one she said oh those were notes for David Cook, David you were great. Except the notes you were talking about were trashing the song so why say "you were great"????

I just think Paula was over medicated last night I don't think it's a huge reveal on the show just that she wasn't all there.

I thought Castro and Brooke were horrible in the first songs, either one should go.

Thats about how I feel too...some excuses I've been reading online was that they watch the dress rehearsals and she may have made notes then. Thats still a lame excuse and it really wouldn't shock me if she had no idea what was going on last night. She needs to go from the show, she adds NOTHING to the judging aside from mild entertainment when she does or says something crazy.

Castro & Brooke were bad but Archuleta didn't impress me either. I really can't understand why Syesha gets no respect, the girl can sing and for Simon to tell her she might be in trouble after watching Castro & Brooke for the past few weeks really was strange.

Anyone else think Brooke looks like "Dr. Elliot Reed" from Scrubs sometimes?

I fell asleep so I didn't see archuleta's 2nd song but I wasn't impressed with the first one and the judges seemed to love it.

Totally agree on Paula she never says anything negative and when she finally does it's because she has no idea what she's talking about for some reason.

If she's there to balance out Simon it's kind of pointless. I've got to where I just tune her out I pay attention to what Randy and Simon say and ignore her. If you noticed during Brooke's first song Paula was standing up dancing like she loved the song, while Randy thought it was mediocre and Simon called it a nightmare.

My Impressions:

David Cook: First song was good, second song was really good. Verdict: Safe

David Archuleta: First song was boring, second song was better, but still more of the same from him. Still, the crowd loves him. Verdict: Safe

Syesha: First song I thought was awful, her rendition of "Hello" was about as fun to listen to as a chicken caught in a threshing machine. Her second song however, was very good and should safe her despite Simons comments. If anything, Simon probably helped her out. She's a great singer and has a good look to her. Verdict: Safe

Brook: First song was a nightmare just as Simon said. It was uninspired, she had no power behind her vocals and the band frequently drown her out. Her second song better showcased her talent, and while it wasn't a good night for her, I think she makes it one more round. Verdict: Safe

Castro: Absolutely horrible on both songs. He's boring, his vocals are weak, he's completely forgettable, and I honestly didn't think he did anything well all night. I like him, he seems like a really good dude, but he's only gotten this far because the girls melt over him. This week though, the hormone stricken pre-teen vote won't quite be enough. Verdict: Adios

Re: the scripted nature. They do dress rehearsals immediately prior to the live show, so Paula probably pre-prepped her material.

I thought everyone did at least OK. Save for Syesha going consistently sharp on the last song, I didn't hear any badly broken notes, missed cues, or embarrassing flubs.

Castro doesn't belong in a national singing competition, but if he writes songs, he could have a career. Same for Brooke, who could exist in that Carly Simon/Suzanne Vega world of singer/songwriters -- if she has any chops for that kind of thing. Best thing either could do is get voted off and partner up with a veteran lyricist.

Syesha has the best, most mature voice of the competition. If this were strictly a singing competition, they would give the award to Syesha right now. But this isn't really a singing competition. It's a singing/arranging/performing/personality competition ... they're not looking for a great singer, they're looking for -- literally -- someone who can be a star. David Cook (who I like best) has this John Rzeznik thing going on that combines very good vocals with an appealing modern styling that simply resonates better with a younger audience than straight up singing. Syesha lacks a distinguishing quality to her voice -- we've heard it before -- so she can't beat Cook.

Archuleta is flat out weak voiced and it really shows on those Diamond tunes. Diamond makes "Coming to America" rumble with his raspy baritone. Archuleta sounded like his nads hadn't dropped yet. He hasn't shown any great arranging ability and his performances are like they're taken right out of "Up With People." It's too bad, because he has fantastic range and control. If he ever grows up, I'll be interested to see what he does with his career.

Is Castro bullet proof? WTH? How does he escape being in the bottom 2?

He's the perfect demographic for this shows audience, so many teenage girls call in to vote.
