So Cal
on a side note, Pickler's little thank you speach as the show ended, credits rolled, and screen faded black had my wife and I give each other a "one eyebrow up" look and both start busting up...

Was a crack up...

I and I've seen cake - they were at the celebrity a couple months back - incredible show - they actually sounded more crisp live than on any of their discs - I wasn't the biggest fan going into that show, but they won me over

Man, I was going to go see that. Kind of kicking myself for not going, and now that you say the show was incredible, I'm really stupid for not going.

yep ... gogol bordello was a trip as well at that show - i don't know what the hell they were doing, couldn't understand what they were saying - but by the end of their set they owned the crowd

teegan & sara were pretty rotten though, if that makes you feel any better - i have respect for what they do and don't mind the music - they just seemed to be way out of their element

next time Cake comes through - check it out - they also mentioned they have a new disc coming out, but since it will be their first one with the newer smaller label don't expect to hear anything on the radio

paula is killing the show - the other judges look uncomfortable around her - i worked with a crazy person who loved pills & booze - at first it was kind of funny watching the antics - then it gets sad, depressing and you just don't want that person around - i no longer want paula around

I know exactly what you're talking about, and I agree. (From both a personal & American Idol perspective)

After watching the performances this week, had it been anyone other than Kellie who went home, I would think the show is rigged. Poor girl, she really cracked under pressure the last two weeks. I cannot imagine going from being just someone trying out for the show to the top 6 and all the attention and publicity, especially for a farm girl or someone like Bucky.

The culture shock for these kids must be overwhelming. Chris is the only one who looks truly comfortable out there.

Here's a little tribute to Kellie in my blog.

GONNA MISS PICKLER

Honestly, I know it was her turn to go. The one thing about the likes of her and even Paris, to be that age and have such great ambition is really nice to see since my daughter is in that age range. I just wonder when my daughter will realize her dream and put all the effort forward to make it happen.

Check out the blog and there are some links to some of my other antics and ramblings. Would love to see some comments.

I liked Kellie, too. I have a young daughter, too (16) that wants the world handed to her on a silver platter. It is refreshing to see someone doing what it takes to achieve their dream.

No comments on last night's show???? Where is everyone?? I thought Chris kicked butt. I just don't like Taylor. And as much as I like Katharine, she really butchered her first song.

i watched it and was out of sync with the judges for the most part - i think i was out of synce with the show, because I really wasn't liking it last night - even the good performances seemed pretty bland and ordinary or to have weird bits to them

here is how I'd probably rate them though

Chris - didn't think the first sound was all that great and the second song blew, but he won the night simply by not doing anything bizarre and still being stronger than some of the others

Elliott - the first song was a terrible choice, don't think he did poorly with it, but seriously I can't hear that song without thinking about the short circuit movies - the second performance was probably my favorite of the night and may be enough to keep him from going home

Katherine - first song was a bit rough - second song was well done and although in certain circumstances her spending an entire song on her knees could be nice............. the song and performce distracted from a good vocal - didn't like the presentation at all

Taylor - think he did a good job with the first song, not the most challenging, but still relatively fun - not sure he had to do 3 soul patrols when ryan was talking to him though - then he continued to spaz out througout the show - I think the beatles song sounded terrible - he sung it the right way, just didn't sing it well

Paris - prince was an intersting idea, just didn't work - mary j. blidge was ambitious as much of what she does is so emotional off her experiences - but paris did a good job with it - i still think that she is too young to have her identity and emotional background to pull off the songs that fit her talent, but she'll be the best of the bunch one day

final 3 - paris, elliott & taylor with paris having the bad day

Kat--That first song was Aw-ful. Really bad. She sounded great in the second one, though. it was probably my favorite from her.

Chris--Totally safe...or at least, he should be.

Taylor--Here's why I think he's safe: people like to smile. That funky white boy makes people smile. And, I know I'm in the minority, but I liked him doing Ray Charles doing the Beatles. Last night showed a good range of preformances from him...and ending up with Simon saying that he's a good singer really helps him, IMO.

Paris--I liked her take on "kiss," taking a pop song and making it a little more "blues/gospel"--I think that was the correct instinct for her...I just don't think she did it all that well. The second song was just okay.

Elliott--I normally don't really care for him, but I thought last night he sounded really, really good and interesting. I thought it was his best night so far.

Also, the contemporary songs are tricky because you can alienate a good portion of the audience (I didn't recognize a single song from the second half of the show save for the Beatles song). Another reason why taylor should be safe--he sung a song that EVERYONE knows.

Taylor needs to sing Hey Jude. He would sing the hell out of that song.

from night 1, in no particular order:

Kat: First song was garbage...terrible all the way around. Second song was amazing, and if she gets a record deal this is the kind of stuff she should sing...fits her perfectly. And god was she hot in the Ford commercial!!

Taylor: Loved both performances...he does make me smile. I thought he did a fantastic job with the Beatles classic...and I love the Beatles. I liked that he showed two sides of Taylor...the spastic party jumping crazy pants dude and the guy who can just sing a touching song well.

Elliot: Good first song, GREAT second song. I didn't like the way he empasized two words in the second song, and I also was thinking "boy, what a song choice for a show where you're in danger of going home" so I laughed at Simon's comment there.

Chris: Loved the first performance, didn't like the second at all. Second was really rough, even with his voice being strained. Didn't like it.

Paris: Terrible version of Kiss, just bad. Second song was better but I don't like her singing voice one bit. Kermit D. Frog, here.

Hmm - Elliott, Chris, Taylor and Kat are left - I would say either Elliott or Kat are gone next.

I think it will depend on their singing next week, but I assume Elliot will go with Kat on the bubble.

At least we got it down to the RIGHT top 4 this year.

Who picks up Paris' voting block, btw? I'm going to say it splits between Kat and Taylor.

GOOD question...it's definitely NOT going to be Chris. I think Elliot stands a chance of picking some of those up, too.

sidenote: I thought Chris did just fine with Shinedown's "I Dare You"
Must just be me.

I'm actually going to have to say Elliot and Taylor as the next bottom two...

I don't agree with it necessarily but Chris, despite his screaming and inability to tame down his voice still has tons of skills and could have an album out today.... Kat has the sex appeal to keep her going although if she continues barefoot body floor dusting she will probably get people wondering if she has been sipping out of Paula's Red cup on the breaks.

Taylor is my personal favorite primarily because even his worst performance to date still puts a smile on my face or just makes me crack up... I don't think others see him that way and I think they tire of the Joe Cocker thing, even though I really do think it is genuine.

Elliot, well he just has the least personality between all that are left... I would put all four pretty close in natural skill and ability with Chris at the head of that pack...

1. Chris
2. Kat
3. Taylor
4. Elliot - Gone

I think Elliot goes next, then Taylor. Kat and Chris being the final two and...Kat wins. Kat is just more of an "Amrican Idol" type. But, in the real world, Chris will be the most wildly successful Idol contestant to date, though.

I'll tell you this, though: Taylor is the wild card in all of this. I think he could a lot of Paris' votes from here on out (*****, fun-loving vote). Don't underestimate my "smile-theory" when it comes to Taylor. He's going to have to tone down and sing from here on out--or at least split it like he did this week-- to keep advancing.

He won't be able to hang in the same area code as Kelly Clarkson. Nowhere near the punch.

And I love Chris and think he's going to be big...but not as big as Kelly.

Clarkson would win this year's competition without breaking a sweat.

I disagree. But I'm biased. (he's hot). The only problem he may encounter is that the rock world may not take him seriously being from American Idol. That's the only stumbling block I see in his path.
