Kat is gone next week for sure. 2nd week in a row in the bottom 2--she's a goner.

She was in the top two a few weeks ago though, when there were just 6 left.

If she comes on strong, she might make the finals. She'll get stomped by Taylor though.

Elliot and Kat have to BRING it next week...both know they can't catch the Soul Patrol Train, and will be basically squaring off against each other.

Unless Taylor gets high and sleeps through a performance, he's the winner. And he deserves it...awesome person with a cool style. Simon is probably drunk as hell right now, and will be drunk for the next three weeks knowing he's going to have to pimp a guy who he clearly doesn't enjoy and compares to a wedding singer.

And for what its worth, if you have to pimp Taylor, Fox...at least have him sing the song that he owned...In the Ghetto...I'd have loved seeing him sing that one again. He was fantastic there...at least we got to see Chris sing Suspicious Minds again...one of the best covers of that song I've heard. I hope he puts that on his album, but he probably now has some bad feelings about that song, as it was the last one he sang on AI.

Chris will be fine - he really isn't solo material, but would make a great lead singer for a band.

And AI/19 Media would let him out of his contract if he became the leader singer of an established band - for a price, of course.

I've said this to many of my "Chris is the man" friends. He doesn't really have "it" to be a soloist at this point. Give him a band though, and they would drop a lot of hits...then he can branch out and do his own thing if he desires, a la Rob Thomas. But at the moment, he's more suited to front a good band and make them extremely rich and famous.

I like the guy a lot, and love his story and I genuinely feel he loves his wife with all his heart and is a family sort of person. I hope he's successful far beyond his dreams. Getting voted off is probably the best thing for him...he has much more control of his career now.

That was a jacked up way to eliminate him...

"hey chris, a lot of people predicted you would win this whole thing...but guess what, you're going home."

That was a little too much IMO.

Seacrest is a real clown. No need to embarass people for the sake of "suspense". I bet he practices different ways of letting someone know they're gone. I hate him.

I think Kat wins...but like I've said before, Taylor is the wild card because he's so damn fun.

close your eyes and give elliott a listen - dude may look busted, but his vocals are smooth

I won't deny Elliott has a voice--it's amazing. My point was that for someone (imho) to be an "American Idol" I have to at least be able to tolerate watching him. Elliott creeps me out, and Taylor annoys the hell out of me. For the most part, I agree with Simon on his performances. "In The Ghetto" was the first time I saw him put his own personal touch on the MUSIC he was singing--the rest sounded like karaoke--good karaoke, I'll grant that, but all of Taylor's "personal touch" so far seems to be spasming on stage like he's being electrocuted.

Sorry, I know a lot of you like Taylor--good chops; irritating personality (to me).

That's a pretty bold call. But if it happens, I won't complain. The more Kat I see, the better the spank bank...what? I mean. Uhm.

Nevermind.

I think Chris should work up some sort of deal to bring his pre-AI band, Absent Element, into a record contract with him. They have an awesome sound! Here's one of the songs from them: http://download.yousendit.com/B3441604142EE2DB This can only be downloaded 25 times before it expires. If anyone else wants to hear it after it expires, let me know and I'll get a new yousendit link.

Just read this article. Don't know how accurate it is, but they say that Fuel wants Chris as their frontman.

Chris Daughtry Dropped From 'American Idol'

By Doug Pendrell
Thursday, May 11, 2006

American Idol is the show where dreams can come true. It can make things happen that you never thought possible. For Chris Daughtry, it did just that. He never thought he would be cut from the final four, but to his surprise, along with everybody else, that's just what happened last night.

People quoted the stunned Idol victim as saying "It was definitely a gut-wrenching moment. I wasn't expecting it, not even a little bit." In fact, his initial reaction was that host Ryan Seacrest was kidding, in order to build the suspense. "I thought he was building it up to be like people thought I was going home and then say, 'Chris you can sit down.' I thought there was going to be some sort of 'just kidding' factor there."

Chris Daughtry scored lowest in the voting this week, with 21-year-old Katharine McPhee coming in second last. The American Idol judges were also taken aback. As CBS News reports, "even the judges, usually unflappable, didn't foresee Daughtry's ouster: Simon Cowell's jaw fell slack; Paula Abdul's eyes filled with tears."

As ABC News reports, Ryan Seacrest asked a visibly shaken and off-guard Daughtry, "Surprised?", to which Daughtry could only answer "Yes" Even the other three American Idol hopefuls were stunned by the announcement.

Forbes reports that on the Elvis Presley theme night on Tuesday, "Daughtry's cover of The King's Suspicious Minds drew rave reviews from judges, including Abdul, who said 'See ya in the finals.' Cowell called his second performance - a rendition of A Little Less Conversation - 'flat' and 'not as good as the first.'" Daughtry's reviews were much better than those for Katharine McPhee, who "stumbled with some of the lyrics in her Hound Dog/All Shook Up medley on Tuesday's program. Cowell derided the performance as 'shrieky,' comparing it to a 'desperate, manic audition.'" (See Elvis Night on American Idol)

On Thursday, Chris Daughtry gave his reaction to his dismissal from American Idol. USA Today ran an interview with Daughtry, in which he tried to understand why he had been cut. "Maybe people thought I was safe and didn't vote as much. It's really tough." Daughtry maintained a positive attitude, as he said "It took a while for it to really set in, and I don't think it really has still. I'm just going to make the best of it and use it as time to launch my career." And, at an opportune time, the rock band Fuel has announced they are the ones who want Daughtry to become their newest frontman. Daughtry covered their song "Hemorhage" on March 1st. Despite being voted off, this offer might make Chris Daughtry the true winner of this season's American Idol.

Since its U.S. inception in 2001 on Fox, American Idol has turned a variety of everyday "average Joe" types into household names, including such singers as Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Constantine Maroulis, Bo Bice, Nikko Smith, and Carrie Underwood, even UC Berkeley student, William Hung for his awful yet lovable rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs." To date, American Idol has only produced one bonafide pop superstar in Kelly Clarkson with Clay Aiken following close behind with his own loyal fan base.

Chris Daughtry Gets 'Idol' Boot and Offer of a Lifetime
May 11, 2006

Twenty-eight million jaws dropped to the floor Wednesday night as Chris Daughtry got voted off “American Idol.” But don’t think this rocker is down and out.

Only “Extra” broke big news about Chris that’s making headlines from Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to stations across the country.

“You have an offer to be the lead singer of a major band,” Ryan revealed to Chris Thursday morning on his hit radio show. “Theyre going to be on ‘Extra’ tonight, and they’re going to submit the formal offer for you.”

Thursday, Fuel bass player Jeff Abercrombie and songwriter/guitarist Carl Bell came straight to “Extra” with the offer of a lifetime -- they want Chris.

"Chris, if you are watching, we've talked about this before, and if you want to entertain it again we'll take it and go," Abercrombie offered.

Chris’ rendition of Fuel’s “Hemorrhage” was his first groundbreaking “Idol” performance. The band, which has been searching for a lead singer, saw Chris’ performance and they want him in the band.

Well Chris, it’s up to you, but first “Extra” has another “Idol” exclusive. Our Terri Seymour was with Ryan and Randy for LA’s FOX 11 just moments after Chris’ shocking send off.

"Obviously, it wasn't based on singing tonight because the wrong person went home," Randy admitted. "Catherine probably should have gone home tonight."

It’s down to the final three, and Simon came to “Extra” telling us now there are no favorites. “The funny thing about this show is when someone goes, you never know where their votes are going to go,” Simon confessed. “I genuinely don't know who is going to win

Ef that, this is way better than winning Idol. He better run with it!

Well, tonight didn't change anything for me. Katharine is great, Elliot has a great voice but I don't like watching him, and Taylor still annoys me. I would LOVE to see Elliott and Katharine as the final two now that Chris is gone, but I don't think it's gonna happen. *sigh.

Elliot -- First song awesome, last song good, middle song ok. All were sang well but he just isn't connecting with his audience. This is going to be a close one for second.

Kat -- Too much on the first one, hallelujah on Over the Rainbow (WOW) and good on the last one. Should put her into the finals.

Taylor -- Great on the first one, suprisingly I thought his second one was merely good, not fantastic like the judges did. His third song was good too..consistent night for him. I wish he'd have sang Hey Jude or Georgia on his choice of song.

Taylor makes the finals, and it's a clawfight with Elliot and Kat. I think Kat gets through to the finals on a breath or two.

I think that last song, though done very well, killed it for Elliott. You can't pick some totally obscure song (even if it was Donnie Hathaway whi I love) to try and sway voters your way. I think it cost him.

elliott didn't connect with anyone - i still think his best performance was when he sang that night in the bottom 3 - where he just cut it loose after that emotional thing with his mom - i think that was the most he connected - not sure if he has the personal confidence to really connect with the audience

kat also seems to be having trouble with how big the stage is

taylor is handling everything well - although I find him annoying

as for the songs last night I think elliott did a good job on all his songs, very consistent, but nothing memorable and that will probably cost him

I hated the arrangements for katherines first two songs - the first was over the top and I didn't like the flow for SOTR (a song that I kind of have a bias against as it seems most jazz lounge singer hacks have this in their bag) - the 3rd song was solid - i think she did well with all her songs - but will be in a tough fight to go on and will need to relax and just sing

taylor's first song to me sounded like a vegas impersonation - but it sounded just good enough that he was able to pull it off with a good stage routine - the second song was pretty good, but I don't think it was his best - the third was good as well - didn't blow me away on any song, but I think he has enough of the complete package to be the favorite in this thing

I thought Kat's Ovr the Rainbow, while technically sung very well, was boring. REALLY boring.

I think -- based on last nights performances-- it's a toss-up between Elliott and Kat going home.

It's hard to believe, but taylor mght just win this thing!

All of them are good. But Elliot and Katherine are the better vocalists. I agree with Simon that Taylor is like listening to karaoke, good karaoke, but still...

So, Taylor will likely win! ;)

I also felt that the judges were definitely trying to sway votes. SOTR as the BEST AI performance of all time? Really? It was good, but I preferred her 3rd number. Whatever. I decided to try to vote for Katharine last night, and couldn't get through at all. Not once. Hopefully that's a good sign for her.

If Taylor wins it all, I predict him to be the LEAST successful AI winner to date.

I'm not sure about that. I would think his music appeals to a broader audience than the gospel type stuff Ruben and Fantasia slipped into.

Plus it would be hard to even emulate what Kelly has accomplished and Carrie looks like she'll be instrumental in the country scene for quite awhile.

It will be REALLY hard to do worse than either Ruben Stoddard or Fantasia.

I think Taylor will be really good on record, and amazing in concert.
