ASU ranked 19.

Congratulations
What poll would that be? They are a long way from being ranked in the ESPN/USA Today or AP polls. Are you talking about the women's team?

As for the ASU men, their biggest wins are over an 8-6 Cal team and a 7-7 Stanford team. Wins over LIU-Brooklyn, Delaware St., UC-Riverside and Fairleigh Dickinson don't impress anyone.

They beat Vanderbilt (11-4, #1 in their division).

Vandy is much improved last 10 games. If Vandy can go into Rupp Arena tonight and beat Kentucky, that win for ASU becomes even more significant.

I am happy for Ike - the Washington game is on CBS!! - he gets some national exposure that he truely deserves.

And for the program at-large,they need to step it up for this run. tomarrows game is a national FSN game not just AZ

Jnauary 13th and there is (finally!!) a feature on Ike on the front page of today's sports section.

That's what happens when you commit to play for a school that doesn't care all that much about it's bball program.

Whatever. That wasn't his point.

The coverage by the local paper sucks for certain teams/players regardless of their record or performance.

Ben Howland has the Bruins on the right track - next few years will see the Bruins on top of the Pac-10.

The days of picking on the Bruins are over and I am happy to see it. Arizona-UCLA games used to be must-see TV but for a few years they became a joke. Farmar is the best Pac10 freshman PG since Bibby and if that team stays together, they'll compete for a national championship in the next few years.

Yep, I said it on the Cards board, Lavin was like Mac and had to go before UCLA could get better. Howland is like a kinder more up front Green.

Love Farmar although he turns it over too much, you can tell for years people have been telling him you're too small, too skinny, not athletic enough. That 4th foul where he got stripped and ran down the guy from behind that was a completely clean block. Marques Johnson had them replay it a couple of times and he said "he got all ball but when you swing like that they usually call it anways." I love how they use him too, all those pick and rolls play right into his strength which is off the dribble.

Afflalo is a great athlete but I didn't realize he's as good a shooter and ballhandler as he is.

Shipp is not the shooter his brother Joe(Cal) was, but I'm impressed, he's only playing because Ariza went pro and Bozeman is out all year injured, but he's playing well.

Mata is the prototypical Howland big man recruit, seems a bit undersized but he's VERY tough, he's playing more and more and it seems to be rubbing off on lightweights Fey and Hollins who are suddenly realizing how tall they are.

I expect Arizona will win because the game is there, but I am confident Howland has UCLA turned around and headed for success.

Hopefully Green continues to do the same thing for the Cards.

UCLA 86-82.

Losses at home tend to off-set those nice wins on the road.

Lost opportunity to capitalize on some very nice mementum.

Not even 10,000 in Wells Fargo?!?

Don't get too down on UCLA's chances. Arizona has been looking more and more like last year's version while UCLA has looked very good so far in conference play. There's no way I'd bet any money on Arizona tomorrow.

They are inconsistent (Arizona) but the big difference between them, and ASU is that while Frye is soft, he's tall and UCLA's 7 footers are so soft he'll eat them up. Mata is much tougher but he's young and foul prone, Frye is too smart for him. Also they have Adams and Fox who always seem to be fired up for UCLA.

I think it'll be a good game, Stoudamire kills UCLA too, they have to keep their eyes on him better. Basically Arizona has more guys who can blow up than ASU does so you can't take away one guy like UCLA did with Diogu. They have 6 guys who can get 18-20 points on a given night, ASU doesn't.

This is one UCLA fan that is still euphoric over the firing of Lavin, I don't care what last years record was it was a cleansing year, guys who'd never been coached suddenly were, some fought it, some hated it(Ariza) and some fought threw it and are now better for it(Thompson, Morrison, supposedly Bozeman before he got hurt).

Assuming no surprise jumps to the NBA next year, UCLA will be really good. Have 5 kids committed, a true PF, a combo guard to give Farmar a rest and help replace morrison. Thompson will be missed but if Afflalo and Farmar stay in school, and I think they will, they'll have plenty of scoring.

It's not the schools fault for that, when it's the only game in town as in North Nogales you tend to get more press. I live with that everyday here.
