This one's on the entire staff. Staff members don't recruit their position, they recruit regions. Go find the names of the guys who recruit Phoenix Metro and there are your real culprits.

Im aware of how it works but Olsen and Smith have to take the blame for the multiple years of missing out on multiple O-lineman. Its just getting silly at this point.

Lets take a look at all the misses the staff has had:

2010:
4 * OT Eric Kohler (CA)- Washington
3* OT Kody Innes (AZ)- UCLA
3* OT Tayo Fabuluje (TX)- BYU
3* OT Geoff Gibson (NV)- Cal

4* OG Nick Rowland (AZ)- Oregon
3* OG Roman Sapolu (CA)- Oregon St
3 * OG Thomas Molesi (CA)- Oregon St

4* C Giovanni Di Poalo (CA)- USC
3* C Blair Tushaus (AZ)- BYU

2009:
4 * OT Taylor Lewan (AZ)- Michigan
3 * OT Charles Siddoway (OR)- Cal
3 * OT Jeremiah Sirles (CO)- Nebraska
3 * OT Jack Harris (CO)- Colorado
3* OT Grant Enger (WA)- Oregon St
3* OT Charles Ragland (CO)- Cal
3 * OT Nik Abele (CA)- UCLA

3* OG Nick Ash (TX)- Nebraska
3* OG Quayshawne Buckley (CA)- Wazzu
3* OG Eddie Williams (CA)- UCLA

3* C Terry Alletto (CO)- BYU

2008:
4* OT Senio Kelemete (WA)- Washington
4* OT Mark Buchanan (TX)- Texas
4* OT Phillip Garcia (CA)- UA
3* Ryan Dannewitz (CA)- Colorado

4* OG Mike Diaz (CA)- UA
3* OG Allen Carroll (CA)- Washington
3* OG Kyle Quinn (CA)- UA
3* OG Andrew Mitchell (UT)- Okla St

4* C David DeCastro (WA)- Stanford
3* C Hamani Stevens (CA)- Oregon
3* C Ben Contreras (CA)- New Mexico

2007:
5* OT Martin Coleman (CA)- USC
4* OT Sam DeMartinis (CA)- Cal
4* OT Carson York (ID)- Oregon
4* OT Jaivorio Burkes (AZ)- Nebraska
4* OT Darris Sawtelle (MI)- Tennessee
3* OT Sione Tau (HI)- Colorado
3* OT Marcel Jones (AZ)- Nebraska
3* OT Tyler Mabry (CA)- Stanford
3* OT Eric Sproal (CA)- Fresno St
3* OT Clayton Johnson (CA)- Nevada
3* OT Levi Mack (AZ)- BYU

4* OG Charlie Carmichael (CA)- Oregon
4* OG Justin Cheadle (CA)-Cal
3* OG Todd Huber (CA)-Cal
3* OG Garrett Pendergast (CA)- Boise St

4* C Dave Molk (IL)- Michigan
3* C Houston Reynolds (UT)- BYU

Looking at that lists its just staggering what a poor job the staff has done with the O line recruiting. Even if they couldve just kept the AZ kids (in bold) home the situation would be dramatically different.

Now while its certainly true that coaches recruit by region a big part of this must be on Olsen and Smith. Kids can see how poor ASUs offense is, how bad the O-line play and coaching is and decide coming to ASU is a waste and thats on Olsen/Smith.

At some point someone has to take responsibility/the fall for this amazing ineptitude and I think its Olsen and Smith.

In the FWIW category, Jaivario Burkes is back in town and no longer with Nebraska. He has some mysterious illness that caused him to step away from football, even though he started every game last year. The think it's related to his heart. However, should he receive medical clearance, I'm told he'll attend ASU.

Heh, Hoover sounds like us Arizona fans circa 2006-2009 when we blamed everyone involved with UofA Basketball most notably the asst. coaches except for Lute for the program's struggles. We were definitely wrong then, just as you are now. Massive recruiting failures lie directly with the head coach of any program in any sport.

The staff has one very good -- maybe great -- proven recruiter and one who looks like he has the stuff to be just as good (Lubick and Erickson's kid). What anyone else does on that staff in terms of recruiting is a mystery, namely the OC and the OL coach. Even Yarber, who was heralded as an effective recruiter, has done very little since he's been here.

I know for a fact that Erickson had a meeting with Love last winter on Olson and Smith and Erickson explained their value rested in scouting players and film work. That's fine, but those kinds of skills usually fall under administrative titles; neither would take those jobs because they'd receive about 1/5th the pay.

So with two non-recruiters on staff, the rest have to carry a bigger load. Aside from Lubick and young Erickson, the rest look like guppies in a sea of sharks.

So what exactly are you saying? ASU should fire Erickson? ASU doesnt have the money to do that and its too early anyway, they need to stick with it and build a program and avoid constant turnover. Im trying to be an optimist and realist here, firing Olsen and Smith needs to happen for the good of the program. Firing Erickson wouldnt do any good now or in the long term.

Im not saying Erickson is free from blame, obviously he brought these idiots in and continues to vouch for them as most HCs do for their assistants, but its time for a change.

Firing Erickson anytime soon is unrealistic regardless of results, the money isn't there and won't be anytime soon. My point (and has been since the beginning) is that swapping out a couple position coaches isn't going to do all that much to fix ASU's offensive problems. We've seen that kind of band-aid approach fail countless other times at major college programs. The trainwreck on the field has been years in the making and goes way above Rich Olson and Greg Smith.

ASU is going to have to start over with a new, younger fire eating coach to get this team above marginal...Ive been a SunDevil since 1975...

Fire-eating?

Emotions are overrated when judging coaches. Way overrated.

Just an FYI - this kid was next to me for awhile in the nightmare security line at LAX yesterday and he said he was on his way to unofficially visit Kansas with one of his teammates. Supposedly Turner Gill's getting the job.

He will be visiting TEN this weekend, we'll see how solid his committment is. Worst case scenario is he de-commits and goes somewhere else, ASU's defense will be okay. They just got Jordan McDonald and will hear from Nduka Onyeali on Wednesday if he will become a Sun Devil or not. Onyeali is also considering Syracuse and IMO a much faster version of Dexter Davis. The cause for concern now is there are rumors QB Pete Thomas is looking around and may not end up at ASU. Threet is going to start next year but Thomas is a really important "get" for ASU.

Bruce Irvin has switched his commitment to West Virginia. So much for that. Pete Thomas apparently either visited or will visit Colorado State.

The commitment of Jordan McDonald softens the blow, plus Dexter Davis is the only lineman we lose so Irvin would have had to fight for time. I am more concerned with Thomas, Sampson and Brock aren't the answer at QB IMO, Threet starts next year and Thomas will be the back up if he ends up here.

Bit of old news but it came as no surprise. Looks like Kain Colter, a Stanford QB commit is looking at ASU. I hope Aaron Corp sees that Barkley is blocking him for at least 2 more years and decides he can be the man at ASU.

Kind of like ua's offense before they applied 1 bandaid?

Aaron Corp is awful, not to mention Carroll would never let him transfer within the conference.

If Barkley wasn't there he'd be starting, heard he looked good in spring practice but his injury before the season cemented Barkley as the starting QB. Carroll can replace him easily, unless he wants to be a prick and screw him over.

Corp IS horrible. He lost the UW game with an abysmal performance. No USC fan I know, myself included, wants him to ever see the field again.

I guess you feel the same way about Corp as UA fans feel about Matt Scott, but Matt Scott was horrible over 3 games, how many games did Corp start? Barkley had a couple of sub-par games. I am just saying that Corp is probably a lot better than what ASU has at QB right now (not saying much I know).

ASU gets a good 3-star DE commit. A Dexter Davis clone but stronger and much faster, softens the blow of losng Bruce Irvin.
