ASU bumped off their own radio station by the AFL?!?

I was at the game...it wasn't on 860?? I thought I saw the guys court side broadcasting...maybe it was tape delayed?!?

By the way huge win! Ike was a monster last night!

Damn....tough loss for the Devils. Had the ball in Ike's hands to tie the game, but couldn't get it done.

3-1 versus the Bay Area teams this year isn't all bad, but I hope this isn't a loss that comes back to haunt ASU in a few weeks!

Christ, will this stupid thread ever die? We understand you hate ASU but give it a rest guys.

Sure....don't want to encourage discussion about a team fighting for a spot in the NCAA tournament or anything crazy like that, do we?!?

So what do people think UW's chances are in the NCAA tourney? They're so small, one player over 6'6" but they have athletes up and down the roster, move the ball well, can shoot 3's, pressure defense, and they have 2 guys in Robinson and Roy that can take games over at times if needed. Really impressed with them against UCLA, they missed a lot of easy shots but still I never really felt like UCLA was in that game, seemed UW was in control the whole game.

I don't know how far they can go at that size but they lead the conference in rebound margin and offensive rebounds and in this day and age of no true C's maybe they are big enough?

The one thing I wonder is how much of this success is due to Romar and Cameron Dollar and the whole illegal contact with recruits 2 years ago? 2 players they were in essence caught with, Marvin Williams (UNC) and another and they basically had to pull out of recruiting both kids, but WSU, Gonzaga and Eastern Washington complained about anywhere between 4 and 6 kids and reportedly are still complaining(EW's coach is now WSU's coach) with guys like Martell Webster.

This thread has about run it's course but it might come full circle come selection sunday when the committee is looking at bubble teams. It's basically turned into the official Pac-10 basketball thread but the title brings up ASU. Russ, feel free to start a thread starting with your post on UW and maybe we'll go from there.

No TV for UCLA?

Best 3 point shooting game in years for UCLA and I can't watch it.

Hope they didn't shoot themselves out before UA on Saturday though, that would be a huge win if they can pull it off.

Personally, I never understood the title of this thread.

Aren't we playing above expectations this season?

Obviously, we should be better, but we aren't...but we're much better than the "experts" predicted, right?

If that's the case, why do we need excuses? :|

So taking the best player in the conference with a school located in a prime recruiting area and molding that into a seventh place Pac-10 team is peachy because the experts picked said team to finish in last? I think this is the type of excuse that the title was referring to.

Just wait until next year, when Ike is gone....ugh, they need to get rid of Evans and start over.

I actually heard ASU has a pretty good players coming to the program next year. If you were to ask me, this is all the more reason to can Evans considering the players would likely either not improve at all or somehow get worse under Evans' watch. Hire someone good (not heavily rumored names like Lavin or Westphal) and they may even be able to convince Ike to stay another year.

See ya later Evans. Good thing you got that sweet out of conference schedule to prepare your team for Pac-10 play.

Randy Bennett would be a great hire although I have a feeling ASU will not be the only team in the running for him. Hiring a 'name' coach like Lavin, Westphal, or Jarvis would be a disaster.

Please. No Steve Lavin. I've heard of some horror stories. Let's just say things were pretty "loose" around there.

Lavin's program and talent at UCLA got considerably worse as the years passed by. Look how Ben Howland (who in my mind is a freaking genius) has all of a sudden turned the tide.

If I'm Gene Smith, I'm thinking big. I'll throw out a few names...

- Larry Brown. He's wanted to get back into college. NC won't be available for awhile.

- Tom Izzo. Pipe dream. Doesn't hurt to ask.

- Coach K, Vitales's love boy. See above. Who knows? The Lakers had K's ear for a second.

- Paul Westphal. I've always loved his integrity and X/O's. However, he may have a tough time recruiting.

- Bob Thomason. Has Pacific playing great.

- Phil Jackson. Yes, Phil Jackson. What an ego boost it would be for him to see Wells Fargo full every night.

- Flip Saunders. At least he wouldn't have players tell HIM what to do.

- Byron Scott. Would be a coup to have a former player return, and possibly get something going.

- There are some awesome assistant coaches out there who deserve a chance, but can Gene Smith afford to bring another coach along slowly? He needs to make a splash, that ultimately may save his job.

Evans should have taken the New Mexico job he was offered a couple of years ago.
