The article seems to contradict itself. The writer and the GMs they interviewed seemingly have different opinions about the team's moves especially about Campbell. They should have kept him however he was out of theIraq price range.

Jess Root is a garbage writer. Mike Sando is way above his level. You can understand why the Cards did the things they did and still not like the offseason. The Cards probably lost more talent than they acquired this offseason. That's why they have a below average grade.

I thought we had a very tough FA period this year we lost a lot of very good players, and added some very old players.
I felt we had a very good draft and added 4-5 guys that have a good chance to contribute this year and be core players for years to come.

I don't feel we are done with this offseason so I really don't care what another team executive thinks let's see who we add before the season starts because I can promise SK isn't done making moves.

It is easy to look at the team from the outside and say they didn't address needs and lost major contributors and conclude that the front office dropped the ball. But we knew going in that the Cardinals were going to be a negative net due to cap considerations.

The response to "they should have done better" is how?

Bottom line is will the Cards win enough games this year to get into the playoffs and then have enough talent to make some noise in the playoffs. Just because we had CAP issues etc. doesn't chance the offseason grade IMO. It's not a participation trophy league or we can't grade on a curve.

I think the FO did a good job with what they had to deal with but the grade of a C- still stands for me.

Not re-signing Campbell was a calculated risk of sorts, but history tells us that letting him walk was the right thing to do. Players like him rarely play up to their lofty 3rd contract numbers, and with a salary cap to manage, you just can't miss on a contract like this, it will haunt you for years. Somebody on the radio at the time was spouting off numbers and made a pretty strong historical case for 3rd contract guys generally not being worth the huge contracts they earned based on past performance.

Time will tell. And I agree that Root is a major hack. Revenge of the Birds is nothing more than a blog, and I don't think that writing about the Cards is how the guy makes his living.

Transition years are inevitable. It's the broadest of speculation to evaluate such a process this early in the undertaking. I'm certain the defense will experience a period of adjustment. I also think there's a good chance the defense will end up with similar results or better than last year. The Cards underachieved last year. There's reason to believe they could overachieve this year and be better.

Talk is cheap. We've got a preseason and regular season ahead of us. Then we'll see.
+1

We do have quite a bit of talent on the roster. If BA and staff can develop our young guys and they can contribute this year this team could surprise. Still a lot of work to be done and a lot of question marks.

Meh, Boldin was in his prime and ultimately it didnt heavily impact us when he left. We coulda been better, sure, but it wasn't a massive impact.

Boldin was a leader in the locker room and on the field. When he caught the ball he looked for defenders to hit. He was one of the toughest players the Cardinals had. His stats were similar to Fitzgeralds for several seasons. He was one of the first great players the Cardinals drafted that began the process of turning the franchise from a bottom feeder to a Super Bowl contender.

Boldin broke his face for this team and the franchise showed no loyalty to him when his contract expired.

Totally familiar, he's one of my all time favorite players due to all of that, doesn't change my comment though

Point is, we will be fine.

You're right, the Cardinals WOULD be better with Boldin. I wish he was still a Cardinal and we never had drafted Michael Floyd.

Been preaching this for some time now...

Yes we lost some pieces on defense and one in particular (CC) went for the $$$.

But us being a losing record team last year it seems the division along with other teams that whipped us last year had enough film and study on CC. I'm saying we switch things up a bit and shake the ant farm. Our core of players are what's here so let's have a positive outlook instead of looking back over the shoulder to see CC lose with the Jags.

In regards to our +/- this offseason, we clearly lost more than we gained. CC and Tony (dont forget Tony) are 2 of the best players at their positions in the NFL.

The concept we got better is asinine. We took a massive step backwards in talent.

HOWEVER...just because we decreased in talent doesnt mean we are doomed to have a bad season. We still have the star power to win a superbowl, and thats all that matters.

We got worse on the DLine but that is it. That's if Nkemdiche doesn't step it up. We'll have a healthy Badger which is better than TJ any day. We also added Budda who I am sure will be a great addition to the DB's. I think we are a better team this year than last.
