@kentsomers:

Doesn't appear Cason signs w/#azcardinals today. still on radar, might come after Kolb release, cap space opens. no word on Brinkley

WTF is the team waiting for, just release him already.

Yeah, shrug. I thought it was a sure thing yesterday. I'm sure money/starting jobs could be a consideration.

Or might sign with someone else before we get our act together.

Just like the team to wait to dump Kolb and lose out on a player they want, IE Manning...And yes, Manning was seriously considering Cardinals, but didn't want to make hasty decision...Had team dumped Kolb they couldve shown to Manning they were willing to wait. This is not conjecture, for Archie Manning said as much on The Herd a couple of months ago.

I wouldn't expect Archie to say anything else, but to believe him is a different story.

And it has been widely reported that Manning did not want to play behind our offensive line. After he signed with Denver, there was nothing that intimated he was going to choose AZ over Denver. Nothing.

Trust me, the negotiations were further away than you're willing to admit.

By the way Having Kolb on the roster rt now isnt keeping them from signing anyone! It would take a whopping 10 minutes to dump the guy if need be.

so Kent Somers is just talking about Kolb for no reason?

I would say yes. If they need to dump Kolb to sign someone how long can that take realistically?

My fear is that they are still trying to restructure him and have him compete with Stanton as starter. I hope not but no other reason to be holding on???

Back to Cason - I'm thinking the conversation goes like this:

KEIM: Glad you came in to visit us.

CASON: I'm really looking forward to starting opposite PP21.

KEIM: Well...er...we can't necessarily guarantee that. We just signed Jerraud Powers...

CASON: Uhhhh, I just realized I can't make my flight unless I leave right now. It's been rare. Seeya.

Yeah, don't confuse yourself by adding more to the story than what's already there.

What's the rush? Like Shane said, all it takes is a phone call to Kolb and the league offices that he's cut. Immediately gives the club $7.5 mil.

If the club knew that a Cason signing would require it, they'd have cut him by now.Simple.

Doubtful considering how long he was in AZ.

Dumerville will want 10 a year do we have that kind of space?

I find it difficult to imagine Dumervil getting more money on the open market than Cliff Avril who signed for 7.5 mil. Dumervil signs for around 6 mil IMO and we should be able to afford that after we have gutted our roster to save money and haven't spent any of it on any quality players. Gay was 3 mil, Rhodes 6 mil, Wells, 1.25 mil, Wilson 3 mil, Bradley 3.5 mil, Doucet 1.7 and Kolb 7.5 mil totalling 25.95 mil.

The broncos will cut him because he wont restructure from 11mil cant see him taking a drastic pay cut and he is a better player than avril.

@kentsomers: so Kolb's release frees $7.5 mil of space, according to my math. Efforting to determine team's cap situation now.

@kentsomers: Kolb is not a June 1 release designation. So #azCardinals take entire $6 mil cap charge this year. He's off books in 2014.

A couple points...

1-Cliff Avril is 26 and has 29 sacks over the past 3 years. Elvis Dumervil is 29 and has 37.5 sacks over the past 3 years. They are close, but I would guess that most team swould rather sign a 26 year old to a larger contract than a 29 year old.

2-Just because a player is cut because he won't renegotiate his cap number, doesn't mean that is what he expects to sign on the open market. Dumervil will want around 6, 7 mil a year which is similar to Avril, but his focus is on more guaranteed money rather than money he won't see at the end of the contract. In fact, I could see him signing a 2 year deal that would make him a free agent in 2 years when the cap will increase.
