I've heard we're sitting on around 4.5mil in cap room (from another post on here) and was just curious what you guys thought of bringing Ty Law in to start at either CB position or at safety. I understand we typically don't blow a ton of money on FAs - with the exception being Edge - but if we were looking for something to put us over the top he seems like he'd be an interesting addition. I realize that there is much rumbling about him being a "me player", so he might be financially out of reach, but imagine a back field of CB#2 Macklin/Green, CB #1 Rolle, SS Wilson, FS Law. With Law and Rolle pretty much being interchangeable.... just a thought....

Any takers????

i would love to have law in a cardinal uniform. he would improve an average backfield. law showwed he still has what it takes after going to the pro bowl last season.

He wants $7 million a year and a $10 million signing bonus. He's not an option for us

At his age and for the money he is asking? Heck no.

Was guessing it was gonna be like the Jets contract 28 mil for the first 4 (which included his bonus.... I think). So 4 mil base with a 10 mil bonus spread over the length of the contract. Not 7 and 10. Damn!!! Forget I mentioned it. I don't think he's "improved" or that the market has appreciated that much in 2 years..... LOL..... Almost 40 million??? No thanks.

Even if Rolle is 100%, I think we ought to pick him up. We don't have very good depth at CB. It's a little scary.

It's definitely scary. We need another quality CB. I'd take Ty Law, but not for the money he's asking.

AARRRGGHHH!

Why do people care so much about Bill Bidwill's money? If we sign Law to a one or two-year deal, it's not going to affect our cap-space long-term at all.

Thats fine if we have the cap space to sign him to a deal that he wants and that deal he wants doesnt include a 1 or 2 year deal or 3.5 mill a year. We dont even have the flexibily of cutting one or 2 players without hurting depth in other areas to get enough cap space for him. The only way is to extend Davis deal.

Extend Davis and cut Shipp.... sorry, but between the NFLE dude, Arrington, and Edge, Shipp is probably the most expendable depth slot on our roster/cap. I don't want to see him go, but if we had a chance at Law I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Our pass defense ranking for the last two years indicates we have pretty good depth?

Our CB's continue to be underated (that includes Macklin) by our own fans.

Thank you... Sign him & Verba Make a deep run. I dont see the problem here, its a no brainer.

And I think were sitting on more like 8-9 mill

Before the rookie cap and addition of Mark Brown, yes.

After that. No.

The stats are a little misleading for a couple of reasons--both good and bad. Here's the good news: Our pass defense is helped by a good pass rush. Here's the bad news: teams haven't had to pass on us because we've been panty-waisted in the run game. When you run for 250 yards you don't have to pass.

Don't kid yourslef--beyond Rolle, Green (both relatively unproven, BTW...although I like their potential based on what I've seen out of them in the NFL) and Macklin, we're thinner than Paris Hilton on the South Beach diet.

there is a general rule that would save us all alot of conjecture:

player > 30 years old that wants big contract = not on Cardinals

Teams rushed on us 25.7 times a game and passed 30.5 times a game. And our Pass rush was average last year. About the same the year before in the sack department but we had far less QB hits and QB hurries. Last year we had less overall pressure with the loss of Berry and Dockett playing more of a 2 gap scheme because of injuries this past year. Which was evident in the Comp % between the 2 years. 61.7 this year and 53.7 last year.

If there was a remote possibility this could happen, we wouldn't know about it til the latest possible moment - probably no earlier than after he was on his way back home from the Cardinal physical.

All NFL teams are thin at DB. This is nothing new. Why do you think DBs are in such high demand year after year after year?

We have no shot at Law, we can't afford him. He wants $7 million a year in base salary alone

I think that rating is higher than it really deserves because of our horrendous run defense in the past. Improving the run D this year should put more pressure on our pass defense, thus lowering our passing defenses rating. Which is fine by me, that should equall out to more wins.

I'm all for bringing in Law, I think with that kind of addition to our team, we would undoubtedly be a playoff team. But I don't want to cut good young players to get him in here.

For the right price, :bhiich:
