Anyone going to or been to Pearl Jam?

I went to 4 shows and everyone was absolutely amazing! And if anyone is interested they've just released a DVD of thier warmup gig at the ShowBox in Seattle from last year, avail on pearljam.com or I think you can get them at the shows.

They are in Phoenix June 7, so I suggest you all go.

Pearl Jam hasn't made anything good since Yield. Plus they sold out when they put out a live album. To me, a live album is like saying, "hey we don't have any new songs, but we need a winter home in Vail"

None of the music of my generation has any quality staying power. That's depressing.

I'd rather listen to CCR, The Beatles, Hendrix, or the Stones over Pearl Jam.

In 50 years people will still be listening to groups like The Beatles . . . will Pearl Jam or any of the other current bands be around? I kinda doubt it. Bummer.

Dude. Thats not selling out. thats brought for the fans who don't get go to shows and those who do and want to relive their experiences. Lots of bands bring out live stuff. Are they sellouts NO! Pearl Jam are the furthest from sellouts you can be. They've shyed away from the media. Done very few video's clips and tried hard to prevent their material from overexposure on radio and tv.


You need to get a clue my friend. And look up what a sell out really is.

Riot Act is a brillant album.

ps Pearl Jam is one of the great modern day rock bands of all time and yes THEY WILL BE LISTENED TO 20 YEARS DOWN THE TRACK. TEN stands as one of the greatest ever debut records of all time. and their follow ups have STOOD THE TEST OF TIME! THEY ARE THE SOLE SURIVORS OF THE SEATTLE GRUNDGE SCENE. Pearl Jam has been around for 12 years--in the midst of music today, which is MUCH, MUCH different than music was back in the 60s. Driven by power pop and country-pop, it is absolutely amazing that Pearl Jam is still around.

Will they be listened to in 40 years? You better believe it.

their last concert consisted of 39 songs with 3 encores. 3.5 hr show. thats a great band who give everything to their fans. Including low ticket prices

People have the right to free speech, just as people have the choice of not going to listen to other people's political crap mixed in with their music.

And if Ryan feels making a live album is selling out, and that is his opinion, how can you tell him his opinion is wrong. I tend to agree with him. It's actually more fact than opinion. If a group can't get enough new material to put out an album, they do a live one just to stay on the scene and might put one or two new songs just so fans who want new music will still buy it, but it does smell like a sellout. It's definitely not "for the fans" as you suggest. It's nothing more than a filler album to keep the money flowing until they can put out some fresh stuff.

Have you ever listened to a pearl jam show? If the answer is no, then your opnion doesn't count for much in my book. you can say what ever you want. It's good to back up with actual facts sometimes though.

I haven't forced my opnion on anyone. Just told them to see a good show. Then you guys come out with total unfound BS.

I did search the web and find some lawn seats as low as $105 though. Real affordable.

Hmmm...2 seats for one Pearl Jam concert, or 2 season tix for the Cards (10 games)...tough choice.

very few concerts are that price. And they are probably late listings. Majority of concerts on the 03 have been cheaps. I went to 4 shows at $80 a peice. Thats what $40 American.

They made the papers with plenty of factual descriptions about what went on at their show.

I want to go to a music concert to listen to music, not a political rally for either Party and their beliefs. I even know diehard PJ fans that are turned off by their vocalizing their beliefs in concert.

Not everyone is going to like everything done by Pearl Jam - live with it. It's obvious you love them, but that doesn't make you their ultimate defender to all those who dislike aspects of their band.

again. Do some more research and you'll find that PEARL JAM were the only band to come and fight ticketmaster to keep ticket prices low in the 90's.

They have always been for affordable shows so their fans can attend. Some rare shows are priced high, but you'll find majority of PEARL JAM shows are priced better then any other major rock band.

Just don't criticize something you've never experienced and make outlandish comments as you did. What, you read a newspaper about the Denver show? so they are political spewers are they?

Go to a show or talk to someone else who's been to a show and ask them, if it's D.C talk the entire night.

One political song they usually sing in concert isn't even original, they just took it and changed the words without permission.

And I've seen plenty of live shows, probably more than you if we were to compare our experiences.

And no - none of them were Pearl Jam. But then again, they are not as important to me as they obviously are to you.

When and how did you write "Bu$hleaguer"?

That song was written back when we were still in Afghanistan. I use an old typewriter. When I walk into the studio, when we start a record, I have a FedEx envelope full of typed pages. I don't even remember what's on half of them. Then we play music, and I'll go through some sheets. Stone had a song -- he had the chorus, the part about the blackout ["Blackout weaves its way through the cities"]. It was during the energy crisis, the blackouts in California, and I just started going. The verses are real musical, really nice guitar, and I think they wanted it to be a song. They didn't want it to be ruined by some kind of spoken-word art piece [laughs].

Basketball trash-talking doesn't bother me. It's a high probability that your team isn't even in the playoffs right now, so there is SCOREBOARD right there.

Anyway, the song Patriot, written by Steve Van Zandt (SP?) was intended to be completely untied to any political party.

Here is the portion of the original lyrics I referred to:

Without permission, Pearl Jam sings it as such:

I am sorry but Pearl Jam sold out.

I view them talking politics at their concerts the same way I view theater chains showing commercials before a movie. I purchased a ticket to see the main attraction, not be a captive audience to someone else's person agenda.

BTW, I have seen Pearl Jam in concert 4 times

...also, if you think they made a live album for the fans you are just sadly mistaken. I don't know how they do it in your country, but here in America is all about $$$. They don't give a rats ass about the fans, if they did, they would have offered the album for free, or atleast for free download. Brian posted a link for lawn tickets at $110.00

I have seen countless bands for under $30.00 with great seats, yeah, these guys really care about the fans
