Anyone see Dockett's tirade in ESPN the Mag?

In the back dozen or so pages of this week's ESPN the Magazine (published on Earth the Planet in America the Country), there's a little piece where someone asked Dockett what he would say to someone who said that the Cards are never going to be good.

What occurred would not have been appropriate for younger readers. I like Dockett, and think he's a productive player for this team and a core talent. But he needs to keep his damn mouth shut. Someone in Cards PR should put a muzzle on the guy, because he wasn't doing the franchise any favors.

I'm interested if anyone else had read the piece. If there's interest, I'll transcribe it hear. I can't believe that the folks at Cards HQ are happy about it.

THE RANT
One athelete, one issue, no interruptions

ATHLETE: Arizone DT Darnell Dockett, enjoying a breakout season (eight sacks) in his fourth year.
ISSUE: Will the Cardinals ever be winners?

Seattle has been the bully of this division since I've been here. But now we're the bully. Don't pay attention to our record. You may win, but physically we are going to beat your ass. You go back and look at every game--fourth quarter with a second left when the chances of us winning are slim to none--and we are coming on full tilt. We don't care if you're downing the ball, we're lining up and we're coming. Every extra point a team has kicked against us, we are knocking the whole O-line. If you score on us, we are punishing. We are going to f-- you up, and that's our motto. The Cardinals have never had any identity like that. So now when we play against teams, they say, "Oh we really got to protect ourselves on this bulls-- extra point, they aren't taking a play off." That's laying the foundation for the type of team we are going to be. I promise you: By next year or the year after, we will be off the damn chain. Levi Jones on Cincinnati told me, "Next year you guys are going to be something to reckon with." Everybody says that. And the tables will most definitely turn. That's how the NFL works. It even works that way in college. Look who was good a few years ago: Miami, Florida State, Texas. Now look at who's dominating. You got Missouri, West Virginia, Kansas. Program that stick together will eventually knock the big dogs off. Beacuse it builds hunger. And when we rise to the top, I want to look down on everybody like, Yeah, remember three years ago when you told us we ain't going to be s--? Well now we're 14-2 and we've got a first-round bye.

Just FYI - that's the way that it was printed. No paragraph breaks or anything. Love DD's passion, but as a guy who's already on a short leash in regard to personal foul penalties, I wish that Dockett would let his play on the field speak for him.

Who says that the Cards "ain't going to be s--"? Every season they're a darkhorse team.

What's the problem?

I doubt he's gonna win any Toastmasters awards but its great to hear an NFL player tell it like it is with some passion. I have a much greater problem with listening to players parrot back the corporate NFL BS that we hear in most interviews.

Football is violent sport! If you don't like it golf starts in couple of weeks.

There may be some choice words but he doesn't work in a daycare. He plays a violent sport and plays it with emotion. I like hearing that our D's attitude is to to put a whoopin' on the opposition each and every play. Saying, "We're going to play hard every down" just doesn't carry the same emphasis as "We're going to tear their F'n heads off each play".

This wasn't an interview with Kermit the Frog, it was for an adult magazine just like Rolling Stone, Men's Health or Cosmo (Which all have interviews and articles not fitting for children).

Frankly I like the guys attitude. He can have my back anytime. Hope the whole team has his attitude. I doubt he was an English major but this is the NFL. Sign the dude ASAP. Sounds like he plans on sticking around and winning to me.
