Chili Peppers Get Busy
Rockers finishing new album in L.A.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are finishing up their new record in Los Angeles. The band, at work with longtime producer Rick Rubin, are recording final vocal tracks.

"There's heavier stuff than the band's ever done, and there's also a lot of beautiful, soaring melodies," says guitarist John Frusciante, who cites "Only 18" as his favorite track. "I feel like everybody's taking their instrument to a new level."

The follow-up to 2002's By the Way has been a long time in the making, as the Chili Peppers -- Frusciante, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and singer Anthony Kiedis -- wrote and rehearsed for seven months before entering the studio.

"We worked really hard and focused in," Flea says. "I'm very in love with this record.

"There are also a lot of ****ed-up aspects to it," he adds. "all kinds of flaws and dirt that I like to hear on records."

Flea and Frusciante took time away from recording to perform at a benefit for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music on Wednesday night. The Chili Peppers will take the stage together -- along with Weezer -- in Las Vegas on July 2nd to celebrate the city's 100th anniversary.

And, according to Flea, fans may have an extra incentive to head to Sin City: "We'll probably play some new stuff."

Originally this thread was regarding the forthcoming release by RHCP, however, it didnt generate any responses or hits for that matter...Therefore, I decided to change this thread into who still listens to them?

I know several fans might have gotten alienated when they initially distanced themselves from their earlier punk/funk roots and then again couldnt tolerate the transformation they undertook with Dave Navarro on "One Hot Minute"....

I would say now though that John Frusciante is the best suited guitarist for them and "Californiacation" was somewhat refreshing because they began to revert back to the formula that made "Mothers Milk" and "Blood Sex Sugar Magik"
very successful.... I would admit that their follow-up "By The Way" sounded very similar to "Californiacation", but who can blame them for doing that since that album catapulted them back into the limelight.... And just imagine the direction they appear to be taking with this album..to actually sound more aggressive despite the fact that they're in or approaching their 40s...Usually of course bands become mellower around that time....

I'm just curious though.. Who has listened to their music since "One Hot Minute" and also would plan on purchasing their next release?

Yeah..that was an amazing album...A very close friend bought it for me on my 23rd B-Day and I wore out the c.d. quickly...I loved most of the songs, however, "Savior" gets annoying after awhile....

I know several claim that they sold-out because they went away from their earlier punk/funk roots, however, Frusciante's style is best suited for the direction that RHCP took after Hillel died.... The one song that essentially sealed it for me was "Soul To Squeeze".... True.. .I loved them before that song was released, but the lyrics and guitar playing were just so stellar on that song...it really signified how they were expanding their horizons (yeah.. of course they did that on Blood Sex Sugar Magik on "Breaking the Girl" and "Under the Bridge") but just something stood out for me on that particular track....Hilarious that it was released on the Conehead's soundtrack though...

I'm just intrigued on what the article meant by "heavier stuff" since they sounded heavy during some instances on "Californiacation" (especially "All Around the World" in which a friend of mine claimed they ripped-off a Metallica riff in the song intro, but I forgot which song he was referring to and havent since compared them together), but if they do some thrashing type punk..that would be quite interesting... Cannot wait...

Some people may say that Kiedis cannot sing, that he should revert back to what he did on their earlier albums, but I beg to differ... He does have the ideal range for RHCP music and can cover any genre they experiment with brilliantly....

Chili Peppers Rock N.J.
Funk rockers play new songs in first solo headlining gig in two years

"Standing in line to see the show tonight" was the opening line of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sold-out concert at Atlantic City's Borgata Casino Sunday night -- which was just what most of the 3,000-person crowd did for more than forty minutes before the California funk rockers took the stage. But when the lights finally dimmed to the pang of John Frusciante's screaming guitar opening "By the Way," it was apparent that the audience -- ranging from preteens to RHCP old-timers -- couldn't care less. As bassist Flea played in an oversize diaper, frontman Anthony Kiedis played singalong with an enthusiastic crowd.

Taking a break from the studio where they are working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2002's By the Way, the Chili Peppers' Borgata show was their first solo gig in the U.S. since 2003. While they played a set the previous night, at the Amsterjam festival on New York's Randall's Island featuring a mash-up with bass legend Bootsy Collins and hip-hop's Snoop Dogg, the Borgata show was a rawer and more intimate Chili Pepper performance.

The opener led straight into the mellow cadence of "Scartissue," which had Flea jumping with his bass. Frusciante, mouth open and eyes closed, played a wild, show-stealing guitar solo.

"There's a lot of pretty girls in here, " Flea observed of the many scattered ladies hoisted above the crowd on shoulders. "What about the fellas?" asked Kiedis, before the entire band broke into the Donna Summer classic, "I Feel Love," with Frusciante delivering freakish falsettos reminiscent of the disco-diva.

The hour-forty-minute set continued with more songs off By the Way, including "Don't Forget Me" and "Throw Away Your Television," as well as the title track off 1999's Californication. With Frusciante and Flea knee-sliding and Kiedis swinging the mike, the band rode a wave of energy and played songs off their upcoming album, with the crowd swaying as if they'd known the numbers for years. The first was a more melodic, pop-y sister of "Otherside," while the second was more up-beat punk-funk. Then, in a moment of funk improvisation, Flea ripped into the dirty bass line of James Brown's "Sex Machine" to get the crowd pumping.

The highlight of the show came with the set's closer, By the Way's "Can't Stop," during which a blinding strobe light pierced the crowd. Fans forgot the "no moshing and crowd surfing" signs as both broke out on the floor. As the band left the stage, the audience pulled out their lighters in a call for an encore. Eventually, Frusciante returned, and armed with Flea's bass -- and Flea with a trumpet -- delivered a jazz-infused jam, followed by the entire band on "Under the Bridge." The show closed with the syncopated hopping of Kiedis and Flea on "Give It Away."

As the band waved goodbye, Flea called out, "Thank you! We love you! We are just foolish little guys, and we're grateful!" And to prove just how moved he was, diapers and all, Flea did a handstand before exiting the stage.

I used to see them at the Mason Jar all the time.

Sometimes there were like 10 people there on a Wednesday and we'd watch them argue with the owner about getting paid when the bar closed.

Red Hot Chili Peppers confirm final album details
'Stadium Arcadium' is out on May 8

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced the final details surrounding the release of their new double album.

'Stadium Arcadium' will hit the shops on May 8 as the successor to 2002's 'By The Way'.

Originally conceived as a 38-song trilogy, 'Stadium Arcadium' will be a 24-track double LP with titles including the first single 'Dani California', which will precede the album.

Other songs set to feature are 'Snow', 'Animal Bar', 'Wet Sand', 'Charlie', 'Desecration Smile' and 'Hard To Concentrate'.

Speaking to NME.COM about the title of the release, singer Anthony Kiedis said: "'Stadium Arcadium', in the end it has a very dreamlike feeling of we on Earth reflecting the cosmos on the heavens, and we on Earth reflecting it because that's where our inspiration comes from. It's more romance of sound or whatever ******** passions exist in your soul. It's kind of a romantic affair."

The LP also marks the first time the band have managed three consecutive records with the same line-up, following the return of guitarist John Frusciante to the fold for 1999's 'Californication'.

However, Kiedis refuted the suggestion that this means the band had fully conquered their demons.

"It feels great, and I hope it stays that way, but I wouldn't say our troubles are all over. In some ways it's good to hold on to a few of your demons... I don't think our troubles are completely over. We're a bit bent in the head and I think that serves us well."

Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the studio last March with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, [a]System Of A Down) to start work on 'Stadium Arcadium' and having played three shows at London's Hyde Park eighteen months ago to a total of 300,000 people, the band plan to return to the UK for a tour later this year.

It's coming out on vinal? I thought LPs were records on vinal, and now everything is albums on CD or DVD. When I ask for an LP at the record places like Hastings, all the young people working there ask me what that is. I can't believe this article says LP on it.
