He does have plausible deniability. It could very well be some official did have the video but chose not to turn it over to the commissioners office or show it to Goodell. The bigger issue is, video or not, Goodell, for some reason, chose to give Rice a 2 game suspension knowing what he had done. Hie then fiance didn't simply pass out in the elevator so the only conclusion is that he put her there so I don't know about you but I didn't need a video to know what happened in that elevator.

my question is this... if someone in the NFL saw this tape... in April... BEFORE the initial suspension was handed out months later, what possible reason would they have to keep it from Goodell? There was no reason to "protect" Goodell from it seeing as he hadn't even come down with a punishment yet.

He saw it... everyone knows he saw it and he's dunzo.

Eventually, people in high places will realize that in today's day and age, you're not getting away with lying.

What lies? What does the video have to do with a repug smear camping?

I don't think the mods would appreciate this becoming a political debate so I won't go there but the point is this; Washington would be hypocritical to try to inject any kind of morality into this situation regarding the NFL handling. In terms of fault it Goes 1. Rice 2. Legal System 3. NFL. Not defending Goodell just saying Washington should focus on the long list of responsibilities they have, not this. Let the market place dictate Goodell's fate.

The problem with him and the NFL office claiming to not have seen it is that even if its true and no one with authority in the league office watched that tape, it is only because they willfully avoided doing so. Clearly they either had access to it, or easily could have gotten access. So, they either avoided watching it... probably because they wanted some level of plausible deniability, or Roger did watch it and is now outright lying.

Both IMO are worthy of him getting fired.

This whole story is a colossal joke. I guarentee that since the NFL was established 1000s of player wives and girlfriends have been punched in the face. The only reason all the talking Espin Jock heads are feigning repulsion is the tape.

NFL football is played for the most part by men who would be, are or will be violent criminals. These are violent people playing a brutally violent game. What's ludicrous is expecting these individuals to act like human beings not the other way around.

I know I am going to get flack for this, but who cares?? Who cares if he saw it or not? Who cares if he made the wrong choice? Who Cares!!! The only thing do care about is that the Justice system screwed this up and allowed nothing to happen to Rice. Yet were are all over Goodell which he had nothing to do with the beating Rice did on his wife. It amazing how the media and others hone in on the guys that had nothing to do with the crime. Rice is the dude that did this and yet I see no more news on it. Its all about Goodell. Its STUPID!! This is why I hate the news at times. The only thing they are after is the news that makes the money and not the news that means something.

Who gives a crap about if they saw it or not. WHO CARES!!!!! Move on. They ended up making the correct decision in the end. Ray Rice killed his career with one punch. Its his fault, not Goodell. He was no where near that escalator. Why not just continue to rip on Rice for what he did and drop the whole who seen what crap! Why, because its not as juicy as taking on a Commish of the billion dollar NFL.

This all reminds me of the Penn State fiasco. Joe Paterno was a great coach. Was a great leader and a coach that was going to go down in history as being the most liked, winning coach and someone else ruined it for him. All because of Sandusky being a sick and twisted pervert, it killed what Paterno become. Just sad how others peoples issues and problems get redirected to someone else that had nothing to do with the issue/crime. I know that they say they knew about it and didn't stop it, but was that officially found out before they tarnished Paternos legacy? Nope, it just made good news. Just sad and stupid!

I hope that the Bidwills can find enough of the old style owners who are willing to dump Goodell. He is not good for the NFL, only for the greedy owners who don't care about the league, and are only concerned with lining their pockets. Neither the players nor the fans want an extended season, OR NFL football in Europe or Mexico. This guy is merely a slick politician who would fit nicely in at DC. He is not to be trusted. Anyone who is told by the perpetrator that he hit the woman, and then claimed to have seen the part of the video where he dragged the unconscious victim out of the elevator, and then can't connect the dots to understand that the hit made her unconscious, is not fit to oversee a flea circus, let alone an organization wherein the lives and health of its employees are on the line.

Thats a crock...

I believe that what is drawing this reaction is the tape, and that had this happened in his home, or in a hotel without cameras everywhere, we'd never hear about it and he would be facing no punishment.

But to say that these guys are almost all would-be violent criminals is a repugnant statement for more reasons than I care to go into.

It's at the point where I'm expecting TMZ to release a cell phone video tomorrow of Goodell, Danny Ferry and Donald Sterling watching the video of Rice punching his wife and cracking jokes and racial slurs while watching, while Goodell says "remember if this video ever gets out none of us ever saw it."

I don't like Goodell at all but I don't think he's corrupt enough to cover this up. Just don't see the point.

It wouldn't be about whether or not he saw the video, had he done the right thing from the start...
But, Goodell is to blame for the heat he is taking now, because he first handed out a 2 game suspension when he knew that Rice had knocked out his girl. In comparison to suspending guys for full seasons for taking a pill or smoking pot, knocking out a person (in this case his fiancé) is actually a felony and yet, he dished out 2 games... huh?
Then, he goes on a national news show on CBS and answers "no" when asked is anyone in the NFL ever saw the video... He lied. On TV. Sorry man... but that isn't just gonna swept under the rug.

See ya Rog...

I get that, but the coverage has gone away from the main issue of Rice knocking out his girl. So the news thinks a person lying is worse(more news coverage worthiness) then a man beating his wife. Sounds like what you just said about weed/pills gets more of a punishment/coverage then beating another person. Fun stuff!!

So, what is your ultimate point? Less of a standard for behavior for NFL players than other jobs? Punching out 2, 3 or 4 women before a suspension? The first one being an excuse of "Well, you are a violent dude, subhuman really. You get a pass on this one."

Or,that the media should not report these stories until it happens more than once, and getting upset only after the third time or so?

We don't see Michael Bidwill coming out with any statement do we? I wonder why. :D $$$$$$$$$$$$$'s

Goodell has made the owners much richer than ever.

Dish out the consequences but don't act all surprised when it happens.
Sort of like how society reacts when we hear that an inmate was stabbed in prison.

For years this crap was covered up on a regular basis but that's not gonna work in the age a video cameras, social media and sophisticated drug testing.

And choose your heroes carefully.

Crime rate amongst football players is 13% of that of same age males in the general public. The DV rate is 50% of that found in the public.

Goodell has repeatedly said that 'ignorance is no excuse'.

And Paterno was involved in cover up.

So what percentage are you referring... 51%, 60% or more when you say "for the most part."

I simply do not believe it without supporting facts.

Misleading because of the amount of money they make. Most crime stems from poverty.

Compare the crime rate among NFL players to non NFL people that make the same average salary.
