There seems to be a lot of speculation/coming to a conclusion as to how things work at the NFL offices. When, we really don't have any idea. Who knows what that woman was thinking?

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think Goodell ever saw the video. I just can't see him being that stupid. But, then again, these circumstances are pretty much unprecedented for the league.

Either he is lying about seeing it, or he fostered a culture to protect him from seeing it.

Anyone think there is a possibility that the person on the voice mail does not even work for the NFL or that it was all made up. Heck, how do we even know the voice mail was from April. Most systems purge after 90 days, so if he still has it, he had to make an effort to save it. Also, he addmitted he was not suppose to hand it off and did anyways, so maybe he is the same guy who sold it to TMZ and could be just tyring to make more money with interviews. Honestly, I feel that is more plausable.

The VM is from a League Office number. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Anybody hear Ray Anderson today on the radio? remember, he was one of the top execs in the NFL before coming to ASU.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/spor...erson-sounds-off-on-nfls-leadership/15445455/

ASU Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson, formerly NFL executive vice president, said Wednesday during his radio segment on Arizona Sports 98.7 that he is "very disappointed that the leadership at the NFL's New York office seems to be swirling around in chaos."

He said that handling of the Ray Rice incident leaves him questioning the NFL's direction.

"In my time in the league, I thought there was an appropriate moral compass," he said. "I struggle now, because I'm not sure I have as much faith that is occurring."

Feel like the League is waiting til Sunday for on field stories to bury this one.

If they don't, Goodell is in trouble.

Context. Surely you don't think he proclaimed himself aware of all things when he made that comment? He said the Head Coach couldn't claim ignorance as an excuse because of that specific situation, not because it's some universal truth. But consider that I'm only arguing against using the New Orleans "quote" as justification for taking Goodell down. It is quite possible that ignorance in this case is no excuse.

Steve

So how is this different? Goodell, as commissioner of the most powerful league on the planet couldn't get a hold of the tape in 7 months?

Goodell is either incompetent, or corrupt. If he didn't see the video, didn't ask for it, or didn't demand it from his people before issuing that weak 2 game suspension, then he's a freaking incompetent moron. If he saw it, or was aware of the existence of that video, and refused to see it himself before handing out that weak ass suspension, then he's a morally corrupt SOB. Either way, he shouldn't be the top boss of the most powerful and profitable American league.

This. Unless the owners like him that way.

the oddest thing about this is that Goodell suspended Big Ben for 4 games... just based on allegations and rumors. he was never convicted for rape... or anything to my knowledge, but he let's Rice off this easy, with or without the tape? It's super confusing trying to figure ANYTHING out going on in this case/ensuing scandal.

Cmon you make it sound simple to get a copy of a tape. This is high tech stuff, it's not like any 8 year old can do it with a laptop and a thumb drive or something.

Oh wait, they can, as can most 7 year old kids too I suspect, 6 might be pushing it a bit.

Yeah the idea that they only use law enforcement to get stuff like that and TMZ uses "other means" is just preposterous. My guess is after it became clear Rice was going to get off with a slap on the wrist someone at TMZ said look there's obviously a tape in the elevator and in about a week they had it.

If the NFL was really trying to get it all this time and couldn't they need to stop using whatever law enforcement they were using. Maybe they should just ask TMZ next time?

I have heard quotes from former heads of nfl security where they say the obtained tapes from casinos all the time.

Also, is Goddell really saying that they asked Rice and his lawyers but "what happened was ambiguous? ". How would that lead to less punishment if Rice didn't cooperate or explain what happened?

Bottom line is Ray Rice never played, and will likely never play a down in the NFL again. And that's how it should be. All this other stuff is window dressing and something for people talk about.

In the end, justice was served.

Goodell's ineptitude/or willingness to look the other way yet to be addressed.

Familiar and true. But I still say your quote/logic is irrelevant. It doesn't mean I don't think Goodell is responsible for the actions and words of his people.

Steve

Not at all. When Goodell punished Peyton and the saints, he said that 'ignorance is not an excuse.' So either he was incompetent at best, negligent at worst. Neither look very good for a commissioner trying to be Sheriff Joe of the NFL.

+2.

While I know this is a bit of sour grapes coming out. Look at the tweets from Jonathan Vilma (bountygate)

'I know firsthand the commissioner will go to great lengths to "gather all evidence" but he purposely did not in this instance. Appalling.'

If Goodell didn't see the video and if he chose not to pursue ALL of the evidence in this case as the NFL normally would, the logical question then is why? Why would the NFL be so diligent in every other matter, except for Ray Rice?? I don't get it...
