Are there still people drinking the Skelton kool-aid?

Agreed but Baltimore actually had a pretty decent pass rush against us. SF for the most part gave Skelton time to throw, he just couldn't hit the side of a barn.

I do realize teams blitz Kolb for a reason, but there's a similar reason SF didn't blitz today, as they told Billick, you don't have to he stares down Fitz so why blitz and risk giving up a big play just wait for his eyes to lead you to where he's throwing.

I go bakc to my point all along if Kolb aint the guy, the guy aint on the roster so when healthy, Kolb should play. We HAVE to find out if he's the guy or not there is no rush on Skelton he's young and doesn't make much.

With Skelton you have to make a decision after next season (he'd be an RFA)

Kolb didn't stare down Fitz? I believe Skelton has had some pretty decent yards with both Doucet and Roberts. Also killing us is no Heap or Housler to go down the middle of the field. What has me basically writing off Skelton is he is wildly inaccurate. It hasn't improved since I first saw him play last year. This is more disturbing to me than a poor game vs the Niners D.

Part of his problems are mechanics which is why the lack of an offseason was a killer for him (and other young players especially QBs). Skelton couldn't talk to coaches to figure out how to correct it and other problems

Are you guys serious? I still like Skelton. Yes he had a bad game but this is the same defense that shut down Kurt Warner!!! Twice in one year! Actually this defense is even better than back then. There are talks that this defense is just like the 2002 Ravens! What did you expect? I knew he was going to do terrible, he has had only one off season in his 2 year career. I still think we stay with him and let the man progress. Alex Smith also seems to always do great against us too. You guys are so damn close minded. The fans in Arizona remind me of how the organization is. We don't stick to anybody. Anything that goes wrong make a change quick!

His QB rating yesterday was 10. 'Nuff said. Cards at Rams should be a barn burner.

Kolb didn't stare down Fitz?.
This I believe is the Cards biggest problem and why they would have been much better off if they had a chance to get Palmer. They need a strong veteran at the position that is not going to come in and cater to Fitz. I'm not saying he shouldn't be the #1 option but the leader of the offense has to be the QB and not a WR.

Warner knew Fitz was the #1 option but he wasn't locked on him and, if someone else was open, they got the ball. All we've heard from the QB's since KW is get the ball to Fitz and all of them have tried to do that no matter what.

It's like in the fooball life about Warner when Fitz was telling him about his stats and Warner was more about winning the game first. It's natural for the young guy to come in cater to the star. Maybe Kolb will take more ownership of the offense in the off season. He, or someone else needs to.

I have a question. If all Skelton does is stare at Fitz how did Roberts and Doucet combine for 17 receptions for 212 yards the two previous games with Skelator?

Whatever Kolb hasn't looked that bad on his worst day! You simply were duped into believing that Skelton was good because we won 2 games against bad teams. You saw today what he is an inaccurate young QB who makes bad decisions and can't read a D. Most of the interceptions are balls that should never have been thrown!
So, Eagles are a bad team? Their record is not good but they are NOT a bad team. They are very talented and to beat them in Philly is a huge accomplished by itself. When did we win in Philly last?

It's fickle, bandwagon fans like you who go off based on just one bad game...

Yep... he stares at Fitz all the time and that is why Roberts had 51 yards on 3 receptions, Doucet had 50 yards on 6 receptions yesterday... Andre Roberts has been revived by Skelton last three games. Before that, Andre was lost, claimed by everyone that he does not know how to run routes or to get open. It is Mr. Kolb who locks on Fitz.

Are you guys high?? Do you even watch the games?? Even prior to yesterday's debacle, no semi-sound-minded individual should've been thinking that Skelton was the superior QB.

Running game? How many times did we try to run the ball the first half? 4-5?

We run occasionally on first down, and we always throw on 2nd and 3rd regardless of distance..

How many times this year when the Cardinals would get 7-8 yds running the ball on 1st down you could bet the house that on 2nd down it would be a pass. Why do they not run again on 2nd down with only 2-3 yds needed for a first? Does Whiz have a rule that we cannot run two plays in a row?

I don't know if we had an elite QB that our problems would be solved. Our OTs are just awful, we don't have a #2 WR, our TEs are hurt, and our playcalling is questionable at best.

Hell look at Rivers and Vick this year vs last year. This team has issues well beyond the QB position - although it is the one position that fans obsess about. Usually because its easier to say that we are one player away rather than admitting that the offensive unit is a trainwreck

Agreed! The offensive woes run much deeper than the QB position. IMO, this franchise foolishly frittered away the team's one strength at WR. If anything was crystal-clear Sunday, it was that good defenses can scheme Larry Fitzgerald into irrelevance. There is a reason Larry wanted Anquan Boldin on this team and it was very apparent yesterday IMO.

Some of the Cardinals were not ready for prime-time Sunday. John Skelton leads the list, but Beanie Wells coughed up a critical fumble and Patrick Peterson had one of his worst games of the season.

Ironically, early on I felt some of the Cardinals, like Adrian Wilson, were playing very well. But when your offense is as totally inept as the Cardinals were yesterday, all the rest is wasted.

I agree with an earlier poster that said that it just isn't time to throw either of these guys under the bus. It's pretty obvious that Skelton is not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL. He may never be a starter, but I'd still keep him in the #2 slot for another year. Kolb needs to play as much as possible, because a decision will eventually need to be made. The QB position is completely unsettled. But we're not the FIRST team to have an unsettled QB position after the loss of a great QB.

The history of the NFL is ripe with teams that struggled after losing a QB like Warner. Warner brought the WHOLE package. Phenomenal leader, great accuracy, great timing, burning desire to win, etc, etc, etc. Go back & look at how poorly teams did after losing a qb like Warner:

Green Bay after Bart Starr - There's a reason Lombardi left, he even admitted that. Hell, GB didn't get better until Favre came around.

Post Bradshaw Steelers were ugly at times, even with a strong D

Some on this board want to give Warner 100% of the credit for the success we had & that Wiz just went along for the ride. I guess the same could be said for the HC's left behind above. BTW, some of those guys are in the HOF. Warner was special beyond words. Look what happened at St. Louis after he left the Rams! The point I'm trying to make is that this is not unusual what we're going through. It SUCKS, but it has happened many times in the NFL, many times in other sports also. The worst thing we can do right now is panic & jettison Whisenhunt. If we do that, we'll be back to square 1 & the merry go round will continue. If we keep Whiz, we can be significantly better in a year or 2. If we fire Whiz, we'll suck for another decade regardless of who we bring in here. My advise to Cardinal ownership - stay the course!

2 good quarters out of 8 are apparently good enough for some as long as they lead to wins. I am as confused as you are at the rush to "crown" Skelton.

This is why I was very proud of the defense yesterday. They could have collapsed but they held on to keep it respectable despite being on the field with their backs to the goal line all day.

OK he did agains 2 bad defenses but against a good one Skelton was looking at Fitz EVERY play. I said it in the game thread right away stop staring at Fitz.

Yes Kolb did it but not as bad as Skelton did and that's not praise of Kolb it's how bad Skelton was yesterday.

Kolb forced balls to Fitz later in games that got picked 2-3 times, Skelton did it right away early in the game where there was no pressure to make a play.

but yes his big problem is he's so inaccurate. he can be in a clean pocket and step into the throw and still miss badly, Kolb it's usually footwork, Skelton just isn't accurate.

Maybe it was the wet ball, maybe it was the pinky, but he just looked bad from the get go yesterday. First play of the game badly overthrown, then 2 bad decisions in a row throwing to a covered guy.

Skelton did not have a chance with stupid coaching allergic to the run and addicted to the pass. Just like Matt, Max, Richard, Kevin they are not coached into position to succeed.

i thought Whiz and Millers were coming around, I was happy with 40 passes last week and 23 rushes. My standards are poorer than they use to be. Niners will beat us 11 out of 10 times with that game plan, I'm past disgusted again.

I don't think anyone crowned Skelton.

He was just the shiniest of two turds for a while.

Great, we have one guy who stays in the pocket but can't throw and another guy who can't throw because he won't stay in the pocket. :bang:

It's because we all want to be right. So if you spend every game bashing Kolb you're going to crow about Skelton. If you like me were convinced Skelton is not that good, you're going to say I told you so when he gets exposed.

The reality is Kolb got the big contract and the trade so people have much higher expectations from him and he hasn't come through. but he HAS to play because they need to know if he can or not. I hope the foot gets better soon they said he began to practice "gingerly" last week that doesn't sound like he's all that close.

I'd hope he can play at least the last 5 games so we get a somewhat reasonable look at him befor they have to decide to pick up the roster bonus or not.

I wonder how many blitzes the Niners ran today? All I remember is 4 man rushes and everyone else waiting to play catch with Johnny boy.

It's easy to block 4 when you have 5 or 6 blocking them.

I was 100% correct.

3 man rushes yesterday - 6
4 man rushes yesterday - Every other time.

The Niners never blitzed once yesterday. A reporter from the Bay area with the last name of Maiocco tweeted it out today. Somers re-tweeted it.

My above post was spot on. It's amazing they sacked Skelton at all. And the fact that they did sack him, or pressure him at all, still means our O-Line sucks the hairy armpits of a french hooker.
