Off topic, Ball's little brother went off for 92 points his last game, who did they play, an elementary school?
You have to understand how Chino plays. Gelo was out injured(he's been hurt all year but played most of the games) so they put Melo in the Gelo role. That basically means he almost never crosses halfcourt to play defense, they get the ball and outlet it ahead and he goes in and scores. So he took 61 shots, 22 3's, made 7 3's a bunch of 2's and FT's.

It's still impressive there are lots of elite HS kids who couldn't score 92 points in that setup, he's a very good shooter and very creative, but the way they play essentially the whole team sets up for him to score. Gelo has had 56 and 72 in games this year. Melo had 41 in the 4th quarter, an 8 minute HS quarter.

They also apparently fouled intentionally twice late in the game to get him over 90.

Sorry Russ but LaMelo is getting a reality check in college. ;)

It sounds like it could potentially become a circus with Ball's dad lurking around if Alford doesn't play him enough or he's not getting shots. Don't get me wrong it was still worth Lonzo for 1 season.

Gelo is the one who will struggle at UCLA. It's a concern if he doesn't play much will the dad not like it, the dad thinks he's a 1 and done and he's a 4 year guy, actually he's a TE playing basketball. Melo is the soph and he's actually a pretty good prospect, more scorer than playmaker so he's not Lonzo, not as athletic either, but a better shooter, has all sorts of midrange and scoop stuff that Lonzo doesn't have.

It'll be interesting to see if Melo ever actually plays at UCLA, if Gelo doesn't play much and the dad doesn't like it that may result in Melo decommitting. But it was totally worth it, Lonzo is legit and when UCLA took the commit from Gelo they knew that there were multiple Pac 12 teams telling the dad we'll take all 3 to get Lonzo so UCLA didn't have much choice. Romar was apparently the first one to tell the dad I'll take all 3.

Horrible effort by the bigs. Lauri is broken and Ristic turned back into freshman Ristic. Reid Travis was eating underneath all game long with no answer.

Looks like Miller's love affair with Trier is over again too, absolutely furious with him in the first half.

Pure speculation, but I think Miller caught a few guys, including Trier, peeking at their current NBA draft stock. He made mention of players not being invited to camp if they can't guard their guys during post game.

I was back and forth with the Warriors game and the UA game but that was the first game where the freshman ball stopper Trier showed up instead of the soph pass the ball even run PG at times Trier. Obviously 22 points 12 Ft's it worked some for him, but he was forcing things, over penetrating etc so maybe Miller was just trying to remind him the reason you are so much improved this year is you're NOT a ball stopper anymore. Don't take a step back in that direction.

I'm still not sure if Haase is going to be a good coach or not at Stanford but that was impressive staying that close at McKale. Stanford played the whole game 4 on 5, if any of Cartwright or one other guy had stepped up they might have won. 4 points from the bench, 2 from Cartwright with Arizona just daring him to shoot, pretty impressive effort from Travis and the Stanford players.

Only took Oregon 60 minutes to fall victim to the Law of Averages. Once those 3s stopped going in, Oregon was in trouble.

The whole first half I was saying UCLA is going to win. When Brooks hit three more 3's early I thought Uh oh they're not cooling off,but he finally stopped. Drives me nuts Brooks like TJ Leaf goes right every time, it's his pet move, and UCLA like Arizona kept letting him go right, or backing off giving him the 3. When they finally put Lonzo on him, he overplayed the right hand and suddenly surprise, he's not a very good shooter when you take away the drive so you can get up on his 3's.

Hence my concern about lauri

For now, I'm concerned, but unless there's some injury we don't know about, I think he'll be fine.

Remember, out of necessity, when Trier was out, Miller was running these freshmen into the ground consistently playing them 30+ minutes. That so-called "Freshman Wall" came at them faster than normal. I've noticed Miller doing his best to extend the rotation and limit their minutes, but one has to wonder if they're all gassed. Fortunately, the team got an extra day between these games to rest up and game plan. Cal will be a good litmus test to see if it's exhaustion or the team playing down to its competition.

the other thing with Lauri he is considerably bigger than he's ever been before. I think he put on about 20 pounds in the last year bulking up before he got to UA and then more after he got to UA. Getting stronger is a good thing but that extra weight takes time to get used to.

As in plural? Or are you just talking about Allen's pinkie. What's the news on that one anyway, how long are they estimating it will bother him?

Regardless, it was nice to see PJC starting to look a little more like the player he was becoming prior to the ankle injury.

Ristic sprained his ankle. Means that we'll likely have 7 scholarship players available for Washington, who's getting Fultz back. I know UW isn't good, but we need all of our horses.

Well that's too bad. I've taped the game and plan to watch it after my wife goes to bed but that's disappointing to hear.

Not going to be considered a good win at first, but considering that UW was at full strength for the first time in a month and Arizona back down to 7 scholarship players, it had to gut that one out. Ristic and Allen HAVE to be ready come Thursday

Looks like you guys may luck out and play USC without Metu. Last game the slap of Pritchard and the attempted trip of Boucher. Now at the end of the beatdown loss at Pauley as he's walking off the court he knocks a poster out of the hands of a kid celebrating the UCLA win. It's on tape it was obvious live so they have it on tape.

Considering the Pac 12 had already apparently warned SC about it my guess is USC will either have to suspend him now or the Pac 12 will do it for them.

he didn't slap the kid he knocked the poster out of the kids hands as he was walking off. I saw it on tv but a couple of people on Bruinzone who were at the game saw it happen. Apparently security saw it too so I'll be pretty surprised if he's not suspended.
