In an earlier thread this week, I talked about real DE types, and I advocated signing Joey Porter or Aaron Kampman (proven pass rushers) for one and looking in the draft at thicker DE/OLB types like Carlos Dunlap and Brandon Graham.

I gotcha. Looking for a Berry replacement, not an OLB per say.

Exactly. I'm fine with the hybrids in the 3-4...but these days the 4 man rush is in use sometimes more often than the base defense and we need a couple of edge rushers who can make the burst out of the three point stance.

Here is what I think we need to do moving ahead. Forget about all this talk about OLB's who we already have some young guns at, CB's, TE's, or OT's. We need to completely rebuild the middle of our defense - NT, WILB, SILB, and FS.

If all we did is rebuild the belly of the D at those 4 positions I will be very happy.

#26 - WILB - Sean Weatherspoon
#58 - SILB - Brandon Spikes
#88 - NT - Torrell Troup
#89 - FS - Major Wright

I have been on the Weatherspoon bandwagon since the Senior Bowl. The option that I liked in the 2nd round was taking Koa Misi as a replacement for Hayes. He played the SILB position in the Senior Bowl and has size and athleticism. He also provides some versatility as he can play OLB, and has experience playing DE which he could sub in for in nickel packages.

Sign Jamal Williams and we could go...

1- WILB -Sean Weatherspoon
2- SILB -Koa Misi
3a- QB -Tim Tebow
3b- FS -Major Wright
4a- TE -Dorin Dickerson
4b- NT -Jeff Owens (though Troupe might slide into round 4)

Isn't that why we signed Baggs out of the CFL?

Baggs is a 3-4 OLB, he plays standing up,

Berry was without a doubt not an OLB in our system. He was a classic hand on the ground nickel and dime pass rush DE in either out 3 man pass rush front or our 4 man pass rush front.

Koa Misi in round 2. He can played SILB out of our base, and can put his hand down in nickel as a sub. I think that we will be fine as long as we can stay fresh outside at DE.

What about Kevin Besped out of Nevada in the 6th (or 5th if we get a comp pick)

Misi is really growing on me. Good call, Chopper!

While I like all of your picks, I disagree about the OLB situation. Right now the 2 DEs in our 4 man rush on passing downs are Clark Haggans and Cody Brown (or Will Davis. Mark Washington, Stevie Baggs). None of these players is a proven pass rusher, and most of them are hybrid types.

Now that Rhodes is in the mix you can throw in any DE or OLB into my draft that you want.
