Is there a plug-and-play RG likely available at 23?
With Hudson at C and Beachum at RT, there should be options in round 1 and 2 that would qualify. It is actually a pretty good spot to add a young player which is why Jones lack of ability to seize it is concerning to me.

Kenyon Green, TAM
Zion Johnson, BC
Trevor Penning, UNI

all three come in an upgrade the slot

Green and Penning have the upside of being able to man tackle in a pinch

Murray needs to push at RG and Jones at RT. The Josh Jones at OG experiment should be over. He's either a RT that can push Beachem or he's a bust.

IMO we should be able to draft a OG who can start in round 2. Kennard or Salyer would be great.

I really wish we had a better option than DJ. He is overpaid and not very good. I will give him credit that he has at least stayed healthy since his extension, but he gets beaten a lot! A lot of tge frustrating Kyler Murray plays where he bails out of tge pocket immediately us because DJ's man is in tge backfield untouched.

If they are all "plug and play' why are they still available at #23 given the premium on good O-line ?
Because players projected at interior offensive line positions almost always fall that far, due to their value respective to other positions?

Exactly.. Quentin Nelson is the only interior lineman I can recall off the top of my head selected in the top 15 picks of the draft in recent memory

We did draft Johnathan Cooper at what 7, not too long ago. Says more about Keim than Cooper at this point.

I found it hilarious Bo Brack tweeted Will Hernandez bench pressing at the combine & not a single thing in-game.

Chance Warmack was also drafted high in that class.
that draft was bad at the top end

interestingly, i think the Cards have the most players from that draft on their roster: Pugh, Hopkins and Ertz

There are several factors to get into with this.

1 Positional Value.
-IOL is a position where more help can be provided so it is a position where you can find good/serviceable players later in drafts. This decreases it's value. Also, contracts for RGs aren't very high. 16th highest paid RG makes 4.2 mil.

2 Plug and play does not equal pro bowl starter.
-A dominant player is different that a guy who can come in and contribute. Kenyon Green is the only first round OG that I feel could be dominant even though he needs some work. A player like Zion is good and can contribute right away but may never be the best (or second best) lineman on a good line.

3 Philosophy.
-Many coaches in the NFL think they can "get by" with average offensive line play and there are others who think top end talent is not as important as not having bad talent.

I’m mostly shocked that we are this far along into the offseason and other than:

Re-signing a few of our free agents
Losing higher profile free agents
Signing glandney
Signing hernandez

That’s all there is for the cards. I can’t recall a less active offseason for this team.
