Walker just seems to be hit and miss. Never consistent.

Marrero passed Avila ("Slo-mo") on the bases (at 1B) on the 3-run homerun-turned-into-a-2-run single.

My first reaction was that it was Avila's fault for not running. But, at Steve pointed out, he had gone back to 1B to tag up in case the drive to LF was caught.

And there's not much Marrero could have done. He made a big turn at 1B and barely passed Avila.

'Strange play. And only one camera angle by both the D-backs and Dodgers. But, as Steve said, the replay office in N.Y. (actually Secaucus, N.J.) had a second view from overhead.

So it was a homer but called off because of the base running? Never heard of that.

Yup, you can't pass a runner on the bases under any circumstances.

They ultimately showed us the view from above from the League office. It supported that Marrero, although out of the baseline, was slightly ahead of Avila as he rounded 1B.

It's too bad Marrero forfeited his first D-back home run. But we're leading 8-1 in the bottom of the 8th (Pollock hit his second HR of the game), so our guys made up for it.

Avila hit our 4th HR of the night. Perhaps this will jump start the rest of his season.

Regarding the base running episode, an online article brought up a point I hadn't considered.

Our 1B coach, Dave McKay, is at fault for letting that happen. Dave is great working with our base stealers, but apparently he fumbled with base runners.

Well, we wiped out the Dodgers and guaranteed another series victory and a chance to sweep. So, all's well that ends well.

There were a group of reporters around Avila and McKay came in and claimed it was his fault as he should have stopped the runner. Said he has done it a lot before and just missed it here. Bottom line is that I don't think one person is at fault. All three of them share a percentage of the blame. None of them were paying attention to the base running.

It also didn't help at all that the ball barely made it over the fence and didn't appear to be a homerun to many until that very moment of making it over.
