I mentioned in Post #6, "We'll need runs with Godley on the mound."

Well, he was charged for 7 runs in the 4th inning.

If I knew that, why didn't Torey have someone up in the bullpen earlier? Really!

I'm glad they all went to him. He deserved every one of those. 2 walks and a hit batter. All on him.

And here comes the dbacks of May. I don't think they ever left. Just got lucky with 2 bad teams. Was hoping that it would spark them up, but Godley stinking it up brought them back down.

You may be right, but I wouldn't lose hope based upon Godley. He won't be in the rotation too much longer.

With Ray and Miller working their way back, there'll be a good choice of starters to choose from for a starting five and a long reliever.

And with Souza and Pollock coming back eventually, we'll have a Major League middle of the order, even if Goldy is not part of it. If Souza and Pollock use discretion when flailing themselves around the outfield, we just may stay close and peak at the right time.

Diamondbacks' Zack Godley: Takes fifth loss after catastrophic fourth inning
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Godley (5-5) took a beating Monday against San Francisco as he allowed seven runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over just 3.2 innings.

Godley was cruising through three innings, as he had surrendered just one hit and a hit-by-pitch and was holding on to a shutout. The disastrous fourth frame, however, began with a pair of solo home runs. By the time Godley departed, two more runs had scored and the bases were left loaded for reliever Fernando Salas. Salas immediately allowed all three inherited runners to score on a wild pitch and a double, leaving Godley with the worst possible line from the situation. Godley has now allowed six earned runs or more in two of his past three starts. His propensity for blowups is the main factor behind his 5.12 ERA. Unfortunately, his next outing will be a tough one Sunday on the road against the Rockies.

D-backs give up seven runs in fourth inning, fall to Giants
SAN FRANCISCO — Andrew McCutchen and Brandon Crawford opened a seven-run fourth inning with back-to-back home runs, and the San Francisco Giants got back to .500 on the season by beating the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks 10-3 on Monday night.

Pinch-hitter Alen Hanson and Buster Posey each added two-run doubles in the big inning to help the Giants win their fifth straight game to move within 1.5 games of the Diamondbacks in the NL West.

How did Souza become a potential savior here? He was terrible when he finally got back on the field - much worse than Goldschmidt.

Steve Souza Jr. numbers
Avg.163, OBP. 234, OPS. 420
It is safe to say that he was stinking up the joint when he did get back on the field.

Yep. Granted, a small sample size with >50 AB, but I was hoping he was Martinez-light, not a slightly better Avila. :D

JMO but I think the FO and fan base had the same hopes that you did.

FWIW Souza Jr only has 1 RBI on the season. I hope he can bust out of this slump, because I don’t think that he is as putrid as the number’s suggest.:)

Diamondbacks' T.J. McFarland: Hurt by long ball Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
McFarland was tagged for two runs on three hits in 1.2 innings of relief in Monday's 10-3 loss to the Giants.

After yielding only two home runs over his first 35.1 innings of the season, McFarland has now served up long balls in back-to-back appearances, with Nick Hundley taking the lefty deep in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the finishing touches on the Giants' blowout win. Despite the cracks he has shown of late, McFarland has been solid on the whole as a long man out of the Arizona bullpen this season, posting a 2.37 ERA and 1.21 WHIP while working mostly in low-leverage spots.

Potential savior? Yeah, right. It is so easy for a fan to think that even a Major League ballplayer can come back from injury and face 100-mph fastballs as though he hadn't been injured and missed time.

A power hitter for the middle of the lineup to join Goldy and Lamb (and ultimately, Pollock), yes. Because the Front Office made a major mistake in giving Yasmani Tomas an enormous contract with money that could have been used to keep JD Martinez.

There have been recent articles explaining why so many D-backs hitters have failed this season. The philosophy the batting coaches were teaching -- seeing the ball in a quadrant as soon as it leaves the pitchers' hands. Instead of following the ball to home plate as they always had.

Souza was one of the victims. Hopefully the D-backs coaching staff has abandoned that. As well as the foolish approach of "lift". Resulting in popups and strikeouts.

Souza's mistake, as well as Lamb and Pollock, was indiscretion in the field and/or on the bases. Playing with reckless abandon with no regard for the consequences.

Baseball is not a very intricate game, except for dealing with the pitch/speed variations of today's Pitchers. Batters being called "terrible" by the fans hardly begin to evaluate or solve the problems.

Two runs from the bottom of the order against Bummaster. I’ll take that.
