Please enlighten me as to when Warner was significantly better in the preseason (especially in the first game) than Matt was last night.
Last year's Preseason for Warner -
Game 1 6/10 0/0 74.2
Game 2 6/13 0/1 34.1
Game 3 10/16 0/1 64.3
Game 4 2/7 0/1 16.1

Let's take off the Cardinal jersey for a minute and look at things from the outside in.

If the Colts were in the same position ( Manning ) retiring, we'd be saying the same things about the Colts as the "experts" are saying about us. They're not going to be as good, They're not the same team, so and so will not be able to replace Manning, etc. etc. etc.

We head into this year facing the unknown. We simply do not know how this offense is going to take shape and if Matt is indeed a bonafide NFL qb that will make this bird fly.

It is funny how the expert's can claim Kevin Kolb is the guy in Philadelphia. What the hell has he proven? When that question is put to anybody they say he has all the weapons surrounding him...Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and McCoy.

Well, Matt has a lot of weapons too. Fitz, Breaston, Doucet, Wells, Hightower yet that fact is never brought up.

But here's the difference. Defense. The Eagles have a defense that can keep them in games. At this point we don't. So for us to be successful we need our offense to be on par with last year and that is just not going to happen. Unfortunately it is unfair to expect that from Matt. It's not so unreal for Kolb to perform along the same level as last years Eagle team.

So unless our defense suddenly improves to become a formidable force all indications are is this team will take a step back. I'm not saying this defense won't or can't be better, but until they do, we are not as good a team as we were last year AT THIS TIME.

Just keeping it real.

If I'm not mistaken in Warner's Cardinal debut against the Cowpies in preseason, he lit them up. I clearly remember telling one of my friends Warner still had it & he simply laughed as Kurt threw rope after rope. I tried to find the stats from that game but couldn't pull them up.

I think it's too early to make any assumptions but it's not like our division is stacked.

I saw most of the first half of the 49ers today, they have OL problems of their own Heitmann out is a problem because Baas is struggling with snaps. Davis and Iupati have talent but they're rookies, both missed blocks on the first play from scrimmage which resulted in Mike Robinson getting drilled and losing a fumble. Iupati is going to lead the NFL in holds if he doesn't watch it he was holding on virtually every passing down today that I saw him play.

Smith didn't look horrible but didn't look particularly sharp either. With Crabtree and Davis they have some throwing weapons and Gore is a stud, but I'm still not sold on that offense, their defense will have to carry them.

What I saw of Seattle on tape yesterday they looked much better with Whitehurst than with Hasselbeck, obviously not against starters but their offense did nothing with the starters in. They were raving about how big their DL is and it's huge, they had their moments but nothing spectacular.

The Rams from what I've seen are still going to be pretty bad.

So it really looks like any of us, SF or SEA could take the division if they just play solid football and I see no reason why it can't be us.

Absolutely agree. I could give a rats arse about Warner's preseason last year. Fact is it is highly unlikely Matt will move the team like Kurt did. Everything else being equal we could slip. It is not giving up but a very realistic view of the upcoming season.

Let's hope the running game and DL improve and nobody wins more than 9 games in our division.

Speaking of the 4and9ers for some reason the game today on NFL Network was blacked out here in Austin. No other game was being played. Weird.
