Report: Top 10 prospect Thon Maker considering ASU

Bobby Hurley knew that he needed to improve recruiting upon accepting the Arizona State head-coaching job, and now, he has a chance to make a major splash that nobody saw coming.

Scout.com's Evan Daniels reported Tuesday that top-10 prospect Thon Maker has added ASU to his list of four schools. In all, Maker is considering Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and ASU. Maker is a 7-footer who has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant.

There is a catch, though.

Maker reclassified to the class of 2015, but according to Daniels, it's looking more likely that Maker will begin his college career in the second semester of the 2015-16 season.

Thon Maker would be a catch. The Sun Devils need some top recruits to pave the way for the future.

ASU Basketball: Three-star shooting guard Sam Cunliffe commits to ASU

The Arizona State men’s basketball team landed its first recruit for the 2015 season Wednesday.

Sam Cunliffe, a 6-foot-7, 188-pound, 3-star shooting guard from Seattle, Washington committed Wednesday, expressing the news via his twitter account.

Cunliffe hails most recently from Rainier Beach High School after transferring from Bishop Blanchet High School. ESPN ranks Cunliffe 22nd shooting forward in the 2016 class. Rivals also ranks him as a 3-star prospect.

Cunliffe had reported offers from California, Colorado, Gonzaga, UNLV, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

Hurley is making some things happen. Sorry he could not get his top assistant, Nate Oats to come with him. Nate decided to take the head coaching position at Buffalo instead. Nate has huge connections for recruiting in the Detroit area.

Arizona State on Tuesday added a rim protector to its 2016 recruiting class.

Jethro Tshisumpa committed to the Sun Devils after a strong summer performance, one that had some recruiting analysts wondering if he was the nation's top high school shot blocker. Tshisumpa stands 6-9 and 260 pounds and has a reported 7-foot-6 wingspan. At the NBA Top 100 camp in June, he reportedly averaged 2.6 blocked shots per game, rejecting six shots in one.
