Why do people keep mentioning the kicker? We lost the game when we gave ASU three points by deciding to go for it 4th and 1 at our own 25 yard line halfway through the fourth quarter. We punt it there and Foles in all likelihood drives us a winning TD and the XP is moot. Not to mention we have all known Zendejas (and our kicking game in general) has been all over the place this entire season and nothing has been done to rectify the situation. If you followed UA Football this year then Zendejas' miscue should not have come as a huge surprise. I won't even get into the horrendous playcalling that allowed ASU's inept offense to stay in the game in the first place.
Coaching lost this game, pure and simple.
In any given game there are going to be good and bad plays and coaching decisions. I am okay with that - its the ebb and flow of the game. In hindsight you are right that was a risky spot to go for it but that late in the game, our defense was tired, and Marshall was starting to pick up chunks of yardage. Bill Belichek goes for it there too and non one questions his coaching acumen.
I consider ONE blocked PAT to be the ebb and flow of the game too. And we could have overcome that anyway. But TWO in twelve minutes? TWO? The fact that Stoops even had to consider going for two shows how bad Zendejas is at his job and I can't just say he "missed the kick" - he literally linedrived that last kick into the back of the lineman. Between the last two PATs and that EGREGIOUS out of bounds kick with 28 seconds left - Its almost like the kid was throwing the game. And they don't have those type of kicking issues in highschool let alone FBS football.
The team and coaches overcame that clown's ineptitude twice in the last minute. They couldn't do it a third time in OT.
It takes a team to lose but Foles and the D showed heart time and time again, only to have the most routine crap by a kicker foil them. I'm not sure how anyone can point the finger at anyone else.
