You don't get to be NFL Coach of the Year twice in three years if you aren't pressing a whole lot of right buttons.

This.

Everything else you've written, Mitch, is speculation to a preposterous degree.

All you need to do is read this story (among the many, many similar things that have been written about Arians, but few as eloquently as this) to know that Arians has a gift for knowing how to relate to his players and get the most out of them:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2546950-bruce-arians-the-nfls-ultimate-quarterback-whisperer

To second-guess his tactics (if you can even call the fleeting public use of a derogatory nickname a "tactic", as if Humphries is being subjected to an ongoing barrage of bullying!) in the face of all we know about Arians and what very, very little we know of his relationship with Humphries, strikes me as downright ridiculous.

I'm just gonna leave this here....

“I’m definitely trying to work myself hard every day, push myself to the point where I’m super tired in practice and then by the time the game gets here, I’ve made it easier on myself,” Humphries said. “I thought I was working hard before, but I was told I wasn’t so I had to step it up.”
- DJ Humphries

“The last 10 days, I think he’s realizing what pro football is all about,” Arians said.

Oh my lord, I can feel the pain and bitterness coming from DJ's voice. Clear as day, the horror!!! He's devastated, you can just hear the anger and angst crying out from his soul. Pity him BA! No more mean names! Have you no compassion??? Clearly he's scarred for life!

Bah... no big deal about this. Yeah, yeah I only played high school but coach called a bunch of players out, myself included, at a pep rally in front of the whole student body. I'm scarred for life.

How many of you thought that was even remotely possible on Draft Night?

I did. Never liked the pick. Thought his rise in draft stock was ridiculous.

That was before we all knew Bobby Massie would crap in his own bed this offseason, so it is even worse of a pick now, because it was done because Massie's irresponsibility.

Better yet, give me an example of an NFL head coach who has gone public with an embarrassing nickname for a 1st round draft pick?

He was not a 1st round pick but Bill Parcells called Terry Glenn, "her" in a press conference and it was all over the news.

There are no nicknames involved but Jay Gruden has lambasted RGIII in the press for a while.

Those are just off the top of my head.

This is a game for men, and DJ Humphries is acting like a child, IMO. His main problem right now is effort, which is inexcusable.

If Humphries lacks motivation because his coach said something about him in the press, he better man up, and quick. Because he is getting a hell of a lot more flack in the press about his play, and the fans will be worse than any head coach. Part of the job of being a multi-million dollar athlete. Deal with it, or go home.

There are 52 other players on the team that are looking for Humphries to help them out, and they are being let down by this player. Making matters worse, he is getting (to use modern day terms) 1st round player privilege where he is getting a roster spot and yet is not one of the best 53 players on the team right now.

Thank goodness Arians is staying his play is unacceptable, and saying things in the press, because the guy is going to cost the team two fold. One that he has yet to understand what he needs to do effort wise, and Two that he is using up a very important roster spot on this team.

Who cares about Humphries' feelings when he is obviously not caring too much about his effect on this team.

Plus, its football, I don't know why players or anyone thinks they should be treated with kid gloves. Respect is earned not given.

Would you give me any iota respect if I told you that I taught and coached an AL MVP (Mo Vaughn---Red Sox) a Norris Trophy and Conn Smythe Award Winner who is a first-ballot NHL Hall of Famer (Brian Leech---NY Rangers) and an 8 year FB in the NFL who started for the Colts, Panthers and 49ers (Chris Hetherington)?

;)

Following Vaughn's departure from Anaheim, Angels closer Troy Percival took a shot at him saying "We may miss Mo's bat, but we won't miss his leadership. Darin Erstad is our leader." This prompted the normally mild-mannered Vaughn to go off on a profanity-laced tirade, saying that Percival and the Angels "ain't done (expletive) in this game." He remarked "They ain't got no flags hanging at friggin' Edison Field, so the hell with them." Ironically, the Angels would go on to win the World Series that year and hang a World Series flag at Edison Field.

"I think it just takes you to man up and understand this is not about getting emotional or getting angry because somebody said something," Humphries said. "You got to take it for what it is, take it for what they're saying and get better, improve, and do what you're supposed to be doing.

"That's all I'm trying to do."

There's a lot of good info in this article. Arians plan was to let DJ sit & learn this season but it changed when Massie got into trouble.

Definitely sounds like Hump has been emotionally damaged due to BA's brutal attacks.
