It was banned or some stations chose not to play it?

Holderness Family is one of my favs! Their x-mas jammies song from a few years ago was hilarious.

When I heard this, I immediately googled the lyrics wondering if there was something I missed.

Nope.

Semantics. Succumbed to the pressure of outside influences.

If some government entity determined that this song cannot be played and punishes a private business for playing it, I'll get concerned. Until that happens this "story" gets a big :bigyawn: from me.

I still think that video is hilarious.

I've never heard this song played so much after it's so called ban.

That's the point. It's a dated song and does not translate. The point is that the "not free speech police" folks failed at their attempt and this is the splash back effect.

Free speech police? Do you mean the couple of bozos who wrote to a radio station? When Howard Stern was being fined by the FCC for making dick jokes, you may have had a point. This flap is the free market at work.

The song is pretty crappy anyway, so... no big loss.

It was good enough to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1949.

Do you dislike all of the movies and songs from that era or just this song in particular?

I like the tune. The wife and I usually perform it at the family Christmas party. But we might just have to use the lyrics in the original post this year instead. :D

The mashup I think of every time this song comes on:

The neighbors might think (baby, it's bad out there)
Say what's in this drink? (no cabs to be had out there)
I wish I knew how (your eyes are like starlight now)
To break this spell (i'll take your hat, your hair looks swell)
I ought to say, no, no, no sir (mind if I move in closer?)
At least I'm gonna say that I tried (what's the sense in hurtin' my pride?)

That's...when...things...got...out...of...control.

She didn't want to (he had his way)
She said, "let's go" (he said, "no way!)
Come on babe it's your lucky day
Shut your mouth, we're gonna do it my way
Come on baby don't be afraid
If it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid
