Kent Somers: In Beanie Wells' case, "turf toe" is a torn ligament in his left big toe. Can't push off of it, which is important for a runner #azcardinals

You are right, of course, but let me play devil's advocate.

In all those years, we can count on one hand how many games he's significantly impacted. If you take Beanie off this team during that time, how much would our record have really changed, if at all? 1, 2 more losses? Maybe?

Contrast that with Patrick Peterson, who contributed greatly to at least 4 wins in a single year.

I am severely disappointed with Beanie.

No game changer, just servicable.

I will flip it on you, imagine if we had no beanie. It woulda been edge? LSH? powell/smith? He was the best on our roster for a while and most FA were just as (useless?) as he has been.

for the 31st pick he did ok. he did not meet expectations but he started, topped 1k yards and provided a highlight or two. He kept his job longer than THT

going into the season with two really injury prone running backs scared the bejeezus out of me... and scares me even more now that we're actually decent.

Just like how people throw Wells under the bus when he's out there trying to help the team even when he's been hurt.

Well that's what happens when you have "Barry Sanders II" on the team now. Beanie's a big wuss and RW is the next Walter Payton + Jim Brown + Green Lantern + Wayne Gretzky!

I think the hyperbole might be a little excessive.

Nobody ever said he was the next Walter Payton.

yep sounds like an explanation for why he was so slow.

Hope he gets better.

I wondered why Beanie's number wasn't 99.

Runs like he is on skates.

I remember that about Swann. Him and Wadsworth were about the first 2 guys I had ever heard of having that surgery. My point about Jurecki is he said Wells went to Dr. Andrews and how many athletes have gone to Andrews and it is not known by everybody? Also, I can't see doctors clearing him to play if he had microfracture. I think he has turf toe and some kind of knee issue and the Cards are letting him try and get healthy.

Everybody did know he went to Andrews for surgery. Beanie simply stated at the time it was "minor" in nature. Yet, come July he couldn't pass a physical and started training camp on the PUP list.
Hey, I'm not about to defend Jurecki - though, he's been pretty damn spot on more than not these days... I tend to trust him more than most others here in the valley.
He claims that from the time Beanie came off the PUP list, up thru the game on Sunday, he has never looked healthy. Never showed signs of being totally up to form. If the surgery was "minor", there was either something else wrong with him that was going unreported, or, it was really not that "minor" after all...

And yea - Beanie takes his share of lumps from fans... why shouldn't he? The guy has had six 100 yard games in his career... He's been a solid under-acheiver...
Ability is great. But, most coaches will tell you they would much prefer availability over ability!
Bummer that he's hurt - again. But, in terms of production, the Cards don't lose anything...

???

2011...

1047 yards - 4.3 per carry - 10tds

If we get that or more from Williams we haven't lost anything... if not... we did.

Right... so, if we lost him last year - yea... it would've been a loss. This year: 76 yards - 2.6 per carry - 0tds. We ain't losing a thing... ;)

Wells will be the next player on the redemption tour for Cardinals fans.

First Whis, then Adrian Wilson, then Kolb, up next is Beanie.

I am guessing that we may have seen the last of Beanie Wells in a Cardinal uniform... especially if Jurecki is right.

He's under contract for 2013 at a relative pittance. At the very least, he's a bruiser at the goal line and a finisher. Whis knows how to use a back like Beanie, because he knew how to use Jerome Bettis. The problem is that Whis hasn't had a lot of leads to use Beanie in, and Beanie hasn't had a lot of games to finish.

We'll see... Like I said, if MJ is right and Beanie did actually have micro-fracture surgery, along with the fact that he's made of glass, I'd be surprised if he's able to perform at a viable NFL level...

He already has, including this year (like against New England), when he was clearly the superior running back on the field for the Cardinals.

This
One can only reflect by what they have on the roster and Beanie has been our best back. I think Ryan Williams, after the fumble from hell, took a big step forward in finishing with over 80 yards recently and though I believe there was a flag on the play, he did look like Walter Payton for a moment when he bounced off a hit and then proceeded to cut across the field (I think he cramped up after that and he then went out). I have no idea what we have in Powell because he has to play in a real game to be measured and Smith did look faster than last year in preseason.

The main thing we need to hope for is that this OL gets better and one should think they will the more they play together and that really will be the deciding factor to me.

missed 5 out of 36 games until now- 566 rushes with 4.1 average - 4 lost fumbles -
And Our local radio station all but called him the antichrist bust of all time today on the air. Talking about how many non 100 yard games he had- which is true- on sometimes 7 carries.

I lost all my air about it- kind of flat-He is always hurt- were 3-0 with out the bean -roll on cardinals..

We have been here before- before this coach- before these players - before these radio personalities- before many of the fans we have now-
Maybe we are a better team without Beanie Wells, Hell I still think Leinart is a great QB, bJ was a good deep threat- Lord knows I've tried to be true red - It is hard to be an Arizona Sports fan... But i can take another teeth kicking- like I have a choice.

I hope he comes back and does well for us like these guys did- for other team.

Thomas Jones

Thomas Jones was drafted out of Virginia by the Arizona Cardinals with the seventh overall pick in the first round in 2000. The Cardinals saw Jones as a game-changing runner who had the speed to break big plays. Jones had a difficult time adjusting from college football to the NFL and ran for just 373 yards while averaging 3.3 yards per carry as a rookie. Things didn't get much better for Jones in his second year when he ran for 380 yards. Instead or running in the explosive manner he had demonstrated at Virginia, Jones appeared hesitant. NFL insiders whispered he was a bust, and when Jones showed just a slight improvement in 2002, Jones and the Cardinals parted ways.

Hearst, a fourth-year player, was placed on waivers by the Cardinals yesterday. He would like to sign a one-year contract, possibly with the Ravens, Tampa Bay or the Cardinals, and a team source said he wants a $1 million contract. Hearst was expected to make $2.1 million this season.

While I'm disappointed with Beanie being hurt, he's hardly a bust. He was the BPA at 31 in 2009, that much is true. Sure we can argue the merits of Shady McCoy who went 20 spots after Beanie but Beanie is a good back. Trouble is, our offensive line is crap. That said, Ryan Williams will do fine so relax.

Hardly, this had nothing to do with LSH's role when he is used as he should be as a change of pace back...this has a lot to do with Well's future with this team in my opinion.

Totally disagree with this. If your top two RBs in 2013 are injury risks (Wells and Williams are) then you really can't afford to carry a "change of pace" back who isn't very good at the running portion of the job. You have to have a competent 3rd RB who you can develop to start if the top two get injured and who can replace Wells in 2014 if the Cards decide not to re-sign him.

I personally would like Kenjon Barner due to his ability to return kicks, good speed, good running instincts, but Stefan Taylor out of Stanford would be more of a work horse back like Wells.
