Linebacker Derrick Brooks, receiver Joey Galloway, receiver Ike Hilliard, linebacker Cato June, and running back Warrick Dunn.

Dunn's the only one even mildly attractive to the Cardinals. Brooks and June are both strictly Cover-2 backers.

Brooks is a straight athlete.

Bucs Cut Brooks, 4 Others
From Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune:

TAMPA - In a sweeping move, the Bucs on Wednesday released LB Derrick Brooks, WR Joey Galloway, WR Ike Hilliard, LB Cato June and RB Warrick Dunn.

GM Mark Dominik will address the media on the moves later today.

Bucs GM Mark Dominik informed Galloway’s agent of the plan this morning while Coach Raheem Morris informed Galloway.

The move opens a spot at wide receiver for the Bucs, who also stand to lose Michael Clayton through free agency.

Brooks is a straight athlete.

Eh....he's a soon-to-be 36 year old athlete who managed just 73 tackles in 16 starts last year. Let's not fall in love with the name. He's not the same player he was a couple years ago.

Brooks and Dunn should start a country band.

These moves aren't exactly cap clearers. They freed up maybe $12-13 million, making up the difference for signing Luke McCown and franchise tagging Antonio Bryant. However, they had about $30mil in space beforehand which is manageable to say the least.

I'd say they are either freeing up as much room as they can for Fat Albert or they are starting a new era.

This should chance how they draft dramatically, too. Now they have a stifling need at LB and WR. Before RB was a big need, but I don't see how they can justify drafting Moreno/Wells in their current condition.

Maybe the Glazer family had their money placed with Bernie Madoff.

So is Berry.

Berry has value as a situational pass rusher.
I'm not sure Brooks has that kind of value as a LB on only passing downs.

The end of an era in Tampa that began with the departures of Sapp, Alstott, and Lynch and the last of Dungy's guys.
Inevitable, but still a sad day.

Should go back to wearing orange

I thought those sherbert orange uni's were sweet. Like the reskinning of the Cardinal uniform a few years ago, it's more about forging a new identity and shedding the old one, more then for astetic value.

Cato June was great in Indy. Could be an interesting pickup for someone who puts him in the lineup correctly...

Cato june would suck in a non tampa 2 defense.

No thanks

The number of teams running the Tampa-2 is shrinking.

I'm not even sure Tampa will be running it. Morris isn't a Dungy disciple, he's was hired on in Gruden's first year.

That leaves the Colts, the Bears, and the Vikings.

The Rams used to run it, KC did in the Edwards period, and Detriot.

I'm surprised the Saints never gave it a shot (although their D-line isn't really built to do it, they have enough trouble running any D I'm just shocked they hadn't tried).

There are 11 teams now running a 3-4 (or a hybrid counting our own Big Red).
