As for Bill Duffy's remark, though, the "next few days" bit sounds like it would happen before the Q business is resolved, so the "shocking" aspect of it is probably that player X is willing to sign for the minimum.

Or that it's a trade that doesn't require cap space.

OR... (warning: conspiracy theory)

The Suns have gotten an insider's word that the Clippers are getting Bryant, which means that the Suns are getting Richardson, which means that they already know what they have to work with.

YES! That's probably the reason they extended the offer sheet to Q without any fuss like what Nets were doing with Martin.

Im listening to Bill Duffy on KTAR and he said that in the next few days the suns are going to be getting a center. He said that it will be someone that fits the mold (ie defense and no offense) and it will be 'shocking'. He said that he was talking to the suns today and they have someone in mind and something will happen in the next couple of weeks.

Re-reading this, I just came up with another theory:

Maybe it's someone who's not currently in the league. If the Suns "have someone in mind" but need a couple of weeks to iron out the details, it can't really be a "known" free agent, because they'd be gambling that no one else would pick him up. And if it's a trade, they'd either have all the details worked out (in which case why not make the trade now) or they wouldn't (in which case, again, they couldn't be very confident).

So I'm thinking it's someone who bounced around the league for a while, found himself out of a job, wound up playing in Europe, and stayed on the radar of D'Antoni while he was over there. And now they're bringing him back.

Either that, or it's Jake Tsakalidis.

Certainly seems that way. He has more money than Mark Cuban!

Is there any way to get a complete list of whom Duffy represents?

Since when? Everyone keeps saying that Sarver is a billionaire, but from what I have read he isn't even close.

The guy is well off, that is why he owns an NBA team. He isn't in the same catagory as Cuban/Allen/Dolan though.

Long-shot guesses:

Keith Closs
Chris Dudley
Matt Geiger
Charles Oakley
Hakeem Olajuwon

Hmm...

Looking later in the article I just posted

We hear that when Iranian prospect Jaber Rouzbahani visited the Suns for a workout, a Phoenix assistant gave the 7-foot-5 center a "thumbs up" after he made a nice move and dunked.

Could this be our guy?

I've actually heard it a few times that Sarver's net worth is higher than Cuban's. I guess those reports could have been based on false information.
Even if he is, my understanding is his worth is almost wholly tied up in assets, thus the reason he put together an investment group rather than buying the team outright. That would not put him in Cuban's economic class, regardless how much money either of them are worth.

I do think Sarver wants to get off on the right foot, which is right out of Colangelo's play book. Acquire the Suns in '88, spend big in offseason, get ready for deep playoff runs in succeeding years. Acquire D-Backs in 98, spend big in '99 and '00, get ready for World Series run.

It makes it harder to recover once those aging free agents finally collapse, but it goes a long way to creating good will and loyalty among the fans who are always intently aware of a new owner's actions. Don't we all want to believe the owner wants to win as badly as the fans do?

Yeah he's really ugly and scary looking but...

Notes: Can grab the rim flatfooted and dunk on his tippy-toes. First began playing basketball at age 14. Played for the club team and went on to play with the National Team in several tournaments. Played against Yao Ming in an Asian tournament during the summer. Averaged 12 points 8 rebounds, and 7 blocks at the WJC in Greece of 2003.

Holy Crap!!!

I have read somewhere that he is in something like the 6.5 billion range or something. I have read multiple places that he is more wealthy than Cuban. But no I dont have a link.

Rebraca or Przybilla wouldn't be exactly "shocking" however.

Maybe sign and trade Eisley,Zarko and Chicago's pick for Dampier? :) Or Divac for the veteran minimum? :)

Well it wouldn't hurt to get 2 centers since Lampe isn't doing so well so far and might be better suited to backup Amare.

Perhaps they are going to trade for Dikembe Mutombo. The other guy I was thinking about is Kevin Willis.

And what are they trading for Dikembe? Eisley?

Even their salaries don't match and I doubt New York wants Eisley back. That would have to be a complicated multi team trade.

Dampier + Weatherspoon to Suns, Marion to Houston, Houston's two 1st rounders and ca. 7mil trade exception plus right on Vujanic to Warriors. Does this qualify for "shocking"?

Or Dampier + Weatherspoon+ JimJ to Suns, Marion to Houston, Houston's one 1st rounders and ca. 7mil trade exception plus Lampe to Warriors.

That's awful. Why would the Suns even consider that? I would rather keep this roster and lose 82 game than doing something like that.

Care to explain why? What's so awful about the following lineup?

Dampier/Jake
Amare/Weatherspoon/Vroman
JJ/JJ/Zarko
Q/CJ
Nash/Barbosa/Eisley

Experience, athletism at every position. It can compete with any team in the NBA, as long as Amare progressed in line with our expectation. we could compete well with JimJ's savvy even if JJ went back to his shell again!

You are giving up Marion for Dampier and on top of it you are sending Marion to Houston for almost NOTHING.
Weatherspoon is horrible, we don't need his contract either.

Dampier/Jake
Amare/Weatherspoon/Vroman
JJ/JJ/Zarko
Q/CJ
Nash/Barbosa/Eisley

vs.

Lampe/Jake
Amare/Vroman/Zarko
Marion/JJ
Q/CJ
Nash/Barbosa/Eisley

And Weatherspoon's has how many years left? I guess, for some fans, personal attachment to a current player on the team is more important than team competitiveness. Why not! Or do you think we can get a good center for Eisley and picks? I rest my case.

I take our current roster. Erick Dampier is simply not worth Marion and he will be even more overpaid. Good luck dealing with Dampier on your team when he doesn't play like in his contract year at 30yrs old.

Oh, my bad, I forgot Amare is real thrilled to play center and Marion a force at PF. So,

C: Amare/Lampe/Jake
PF: Marion/Vroman
SF: JJ/Zarko
SG: Q/CJ
PG: Nash/Barbosa/Eisley

would be the true lineup we were gonna play.
