cheap.

If he beats out drew, good signing. If he doesn't and we cut him this preseason, good signing.

I still wish the Cardinals would have given Kaepernick a look but I am good with Gabbert.

I like the Gabbert signing. Low risk, high reward. Kaepernick while talented has become far too much of a distraction. It's Tim Tebow all over again. No one wants to deal with the media circus that surrounds him.

Vet minimum to sign a 3rd string QB, who is still 27?

That is a very good pickup and move if you ask me. He is better than Ryan Lindley, and RELATIVE TO 3rd STRING QB'S IN NFL, that is a good signing, and good depth.

Plus it is competition for Drew Stanton, which is needed.

It's a no-impact signing, positive or negative, really. If he somehow proves he's 'it', well, we only signed him to a 1-year deal. Otherwise, he's probably no better than what we have. That's why it's 'meh' to me.

Let's be real, Stanton is putrid. And that's being nice. I like the signing, because there's no downside to it. I'm pretty sure that Gabbert isn't our QBOF, but he may very well be a very solid backup.

Id also be fine with Kap.

He took his team to the superbowl not too long ago. Theres no question the guy is talented.

He's a headcase & a douchebag. That pretty much cancels out any talent that may or may not still exist. No thanks. I'd rather go 1-15 & get our QBOF through the draft.

Insurance policy in case Stanton leaves next year. Gives him a year to learn the system. Hopefully they can coach the Jacksonville & Chip Kelly out of him.

Go Cards!!!

It better not be if, but when. Stanton doesn't even deserve a roster spot.

We can cherry pick plenty of bad games from our own QB to make a strawman if that's what we are trying here.

He didnt do anything unforgivable, IMO. His protest was distracting, but it wasnt harmful to anybody. As long as he stops (and reports said he has) I dont think itd be a problem.

I agree its a bad system fit, thatd be my main concern

It makes me want a healthy Mathieu all the more.

Sounds like to me that the cards will be keeping 3 Qbs this year. They will not cut Stanton this year.

He protested, brought a ton of negative attention on himself and his team, and then didn't vote. Dooooooooshbag.

I supported him during the protest but when I found out he was all talk no action and didn't vote that was enough for me.

Yep - this is our annual QB3 training camp roster battle - if all three fail, we can expect another QB signed after the pre-season.
