He wasn't wide open or else he wouldn't have been sandwiched as soon as the ball got there. Focusing on that is getting sidetracked, though. This conversation started because a bunch of you guys are trying to demonize Leinart for something that was nothing more than an off-target through. He didn't throw in to coverage, he didn't lead Boldin in to a defender, he simply threw high. It happens. Even Kurt Warner, who is one of the most accurate passers in history, has been throwing high pretty regularly this year. In the 49ers game when Fitz was running a deep route Kurt overthrew him so that he had to dive for the ball and the 49er landed on his knee which took him out of the game for a while and was a scary situation. No one made a big deal about the throw because it was just an inaccurate pass. I'm sure if it was Matt who threw it you guys would be on him for almost injuring Larry.

I just can't take your opinion on this seriously when you trashed Matt in about 4 different threads on Sunday and have been continuing every day since then. We're about the host a playoff game this weekend and you guys just want to talk about how much you hate Matt Leinart. I think that's pretty lame. He might not be the best QB in the league but in the last few days posters are jumping all over him criticizing him for every little thing. Calling him a douchebag, bringing up his offseason party from a few years ago, etc. His pass to Boldin the other day was one that we see from every QB all the time, it just happens that this time the WR came down awkward.

Now your just being completely ignorant to say that Q wasn't open on that pass play. He was and that really isn't even debatable.

Only trashed him in two threads that I know of. Reason being is because he gave a reason to trash him AGAIN which is becoming a pretty frequent occurrence lately. I only continue to trash what he did because people debate it from one side or the other. I dont care if it's 10 threads. That is what you do on a message board FYI.

Once again way to NOT answer the questions. But instead try to be a voice and protector for poor Matty.

Here's who I think should be backing up Kurt that would give us 2-5 potentially great years:

Tyler friggin' Thigpin.

I am totally serious. Love this guy. He id a bonafide gunslinger. With our wrs and emerging running game, i think he is a younger version of Jeff Garcia.

Not to be confused with Tyler Thigpin. :D Thought I'd beat one of bozos to that comeback.

The way he lives his life?? Huh? Unless you know things I don't, I have no clue about how Matty lives his life. Nor do I care how he lives his life. All I care about is how he lives his life on the football field. And from my point of view, he's lived an immensely crappy life thus far!
Also, unless you know things I don't, I have no idea what would cause you to say that my "fandom" of Kurt "goes beyond the football field"... What the hell does that even mean?? :mulli:
Kudos.

FWIW, my bagging on Leinart has been more like a "La soupe de l'An"... I've been bagging on Leinart since the day Fatso drafted him.

I've made the comment more than once over the last several years - that Leinart will single-handidly shorten the careers of both Fitz and Q. Many here attacked me for making this claim, but I still stand by it today. Leinart is a train-wreck waiting to happen. Because of his inadequacies, he will continue to cause collateral damage all over the field, in the form of losses and player injuries. It's simply pure luck that he hasn't caused more injuries. That luck will quickly dry up once he becomes a starter and is throwing the ball 30 or more times a game...

I'm more then a little jaded my self but this assertation is ridiculous. What do you mean, like when Kurt hung up Boldin and almost killed him against the Jets last year?

This happens from time to time with every QB. Its part of the game.

We get you and Shane are pathological in your vitirol for Matt. I think everybody agrees he has not done what we would have hoped this year. But the crap that spews out of you two is almost like you take joy in his having a rough game. Can't you be a little more even handed?

Lord knows I am.

Honestly it kills both of your credibility on other subjects when you carry on like this. Mitch is Pro Warner and not a big fan of Leinart but at least he doesn't come off like a raving fan boy when he critiques. And Shane i love ya but you are better then this, 82 I am not as sure;)

When Leinart throws FIVE interceptions in one game after 10 years in the NFL, at home, after playing in three super bowls, with two of the best veteran wide receivers in the league running routes, I'll start bashing him.

OK maybe not that's too much so I'll look for him to throw at least a couple of picks, one in the Super Bowl, that get returned 100 yards for TDs before giving up on him. OK maybe that's too harsh. So I'll wait for Matt to lose his starting job to Josh McCown before saying ML is a bust.

Cardinals have confidence in Matt Leinart, but ...

Almost since the day he was drafted 10th overall in 2006, Leinart has been a polarizing figure

by Kent Somers - Jan. 5, 2010 12:30 PM
The Arizona Republic

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt insisted Matt Leinart's poor performance against the Packers last week did nothing to diminish his confidence in Leinart.

But Leinart's erratic throws, including two interceptions, certainly couldn't have bolstered anyone's belief that the organization is in competent hands whenever Kurt Warner decides to retire.

Almost since the day he was drafted 10th overall in 2006, Leinart has been as polarizing as the health care debate. People either are for him or against him, but neither wishy nor washy.

He doesn't have the arm strength to play in the NFL. No, he makes up for it with accuracy.

He's immature. No, he's a proven winner who's doing what any 22-year-old single man would do.

If there is middle ground, it's the size of ousted Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich's forehead.

When given a full week to prepare, Leinart has shown promise. Too often, however, spot duty has meant spotty play from Leinart, as was the case last week against Green Bay.

And that should be enough to worry the Cardinals.

Warner, 38, presumably will retire after the 2010 season, his last year under contract. That plan could change, of course, but that's the timeframe under which the Cardinals are operating.
The club has to find out whether Leinart can play. And the fact that the question remains is troubling.

The results this year have been mixed. A shaky performance in Jacksonville. An awful one in Chicago. A solid effort in a start at Tennessee, including completing 13 of 16 in the second half.

Then last Sunday against the Packers. Leinart completed 13 of 21, but was intercepted twice and he consistently threw the ball high.
Whisenhunt tried to set Leinart up to succeed, keeping receivers Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald in the game. Instead, Leinart threw high to Boldin, resulting in the receiver landing awkwardly and suffering a sprained ankle.

Boldin and Fitzgerald will say all the right things about having confidence in Leinart, but receivers have a funny way of losing confidence in a quarterback who exposes them to vicious tackles.
So what to do?

Maybe nothing. General Manager Rod Graves said the organization retains faith in Leinart.
"I still very much believe in Matt and I believe that he will be a successful quarterback for us," he said. "If we go back and reflect on his performance in his second year, he certainly showed things in that time period that would encourage you about him not only being a starter, but eventually being an outstanding NFL quarterback."

But - and doesn't there always seem to be a "but" with Leinart? - Graves acknowledges he senses Leinart has lost some confidence in himself.
"We need to work with him to get him back," Graves said. "The only way he can do that is sufficient playing time, and right now that's not going to happen with somebody like Kurt Warner in the saddle."

The Cardinals can afford to keep Leinart, who is under contract through 2010. His scheduled salary for next year, $2.485 million, is manageable. But (there's that word again) Leinart is due to make at least $7.36 million in 2011. That doesn't include escalators or a $5.5 million bonus due if he's on the roster that year.

So, the Cardinals face a big decision, if not in 2010, then in 2011.
"At some point, we will have to think about, not only him, but the depth at that position and what life will be like after Kurt Warner," Graves said. "I still believe that once he (Leinart) gets the opportunity to play and gets the majority of the snaps, we'll begin to see a lot of the promise we saw before."

There is nothing more annoying than the Associated Press and the Arizona Republic not only not calling Whisenhunt to task for playing his starters, but actually giving him credit for 'trying to rest' them.

To be clear, starters don't get hurt when they're RESTING. They get hurt when they're PLAYING. Rogers-Cromartie got hurt on the 3rd play. That was 3 plays too many. Boldin got hurt in the 3RD QUARTER, down at least 26-0 (not sure the actual score), and Campbell got hurt in the 4TH QUARTER, down 33-0.

It was like a train wreck in slow motion. I'm not berating Whisenhunt in hindsight. I was ranting and raving at my television in REAL TIME from the beginning of the game.

They're not only letting him off the hook, they're actually praising him for something he never did.

Ridiculous.

Maybe this why his contract hasn't been extended yet...??? I call him "Whizenstupid" for playing all of his PRO BOWL players. Now he may have lost us another chance at the Super Bowl.

BOBCAT

Did anyone pay any attention to Green Bay playing all there stars including the QB through 3 quarters when the game was out of reach?

As to whether Whiz made a dumb move or not will be decided after the game on Sunday. Fact is we got our butts kicked because we did not play our starters from start to finish. Different coaches in the NFL play games like this in different manners. Some chose to play like Green Bay and go all out to win. They were lucky we had no blitz package what so ever and there QB took no hits. I do not know the breakdown but I would guess Green Bay starters had more playing time than Cardinal starters. Certainly their QB and defensive line standouts did. We are all looking at this game in hindsight. These guys have played hard all season and basically came through it without a lot of injuries. We got a bit unlucky on Sunday losing DRC. Dallas and the Eagles went at it all out and for good reason. The bottom line is that they had fewer injuries than we did regardless of who started or how hard they played and the fact the best guys were in there all the way. If we had no injuries I suspect we would all be praising Whiz for resting all his starters. The fat lady has not sang yet and the game that counts has yet to be played.

I'd like to make a few points as an outsider looking in. Packers fans were never comfortable with the transition to Aaron Rodgers either. He got injured, didn't do well in fill-in roles.
We saw some good QBs come and go through the years including Kurt Warner, Matt Hasselbeck and Mark Brunell. I wish we'd have kept them, but that's how it goes ya know?
Packers drafted Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn when it was "sure" that Brent was retiring. Brohm has never really blossomed here, but he's now with Buffalo. Matt Flynn threw a terrible interception late in the last game. But we're not giving up on him.
The point is that Aaron Rodgers had done nothing to make us comfortable before the transition. He's done pretty well right?
Either Leinart is or isn't your next franchise, but as someone pointed out, if he's not getting the full set of reps you'll never know. I still hate seeing Brohm go, even though he's never done anything positive for our team.
Throwing high is an inherent part of football, I can't for a second imagine a QB intentionally throwing high when he could just as easily have thrown wide to make it uncatchable for a defender. Bad passes happen, even Aaron Rodgers has 7 picks. haha.
I hope you are right and he goes and does nothing if you do get rid of him, I'm dreading the thought of Brohm going on and having a great career in Buffalo. It would make me sick to see you guys can Leinart and him having a great career somewhere else too.
